How do we even know if its excess? We weren't there to watch them having sex. There is a line between having sex and excess in the form of Slaanesh. It's a natural reaction to try to distract yourself from impending doom. I understand you mentioned that this is a thin thread, but I have to say that it is very thin. I have a hard time holding any suspicion over that.

Well I know they are having a party to distract themselves, in that situation excess is kind of the point because it is distracting. I think this can be both the normal reaction and used as a focus for dark magic by a bad actor if they carved the right symbols around the place. I am not saying their actions will spontaneously spawn daemons or anything, just that they might be cooped if there is a traitor among them

That was after three paragraphs of emphasizing how it takes days of effort to tune out all the background noise of reality before any of that is visible. Days of effort Mathilde will have to replicate at any given location to be able to start looking for that single tendril of the ritual that leads back to Alberich
If we started to work with Alric, would this be made easier if we could bring the person along who is being targeted and use them as a compass to constantly reference. Then we're not in the scenario of waiting to find that one thread within the environment. Using shadowsteeds should allow us to very quickly figure out which city it goes to, then narrow it down even further.

It introduces other issues in convincing Alric and the person, but first it has to be a feasible idea before bringing it up anyway.

[X] Ransack Krieglitz Manor
Tear open every secret nook and cranny and scour every inch of the Manor for anything relevant without any care for how much of a mess you leave in your wake, but without taking a single thing with you.

[X] Research: Alberich's form
Alberich would not have been unchanged from a trip to and return from the Chaos realm. Research what changes may have occurred to him that may help you locate him.

[X] Plan Ambush
-[X] Ready forces: Longshanks
-[X] Renegotiate with Mira

I do not think we are going to need to know his current form if we are going to crash the party, either we kill him on site or we follow the thread by mage sight later.

Yes, if the current target of the ritual was cooperative you could triangulate a location to within a few blocks in a week.

I suppose that's not a bad idea. Mathilde's magesight is well known in the Colleges after discovering Karak Vlag, so approaching Alric as an irreplacable asset using her Magesight as a factor makes her seem like a valuable enough asset that even Alric would hesitate turning her away, even if it reduces his credit. Also makes it less likely he'd mess with her. Although it would mean that Alric knows that Mathilde is messing with his credit, which could form a long held grudge if he really is the vindictive type like I suspect. Pros and Cons.

Yeah, the best bet to nipping this in the bud.
If we do find him, sword to the head should work just as well as fancy excorcism, and if not, i doubt any amount of extra wizards is going to help.

*sudden grey wizard suspicion*
I have an even worse suspicion. It's possible Alberich is dedicating his ritual to Slaanesh, and will kill an eighth person who doesn't have to be a part of the family.

What if the eighth target isn't Alric, but Mathilde? We've already foiled a pretty major scheme of the Tempter with Karak Vlag, and It's a proud and vindictive entity. It could have been either a trap for us (although that's would be more Tzeench style), or the original target was Alric but divine inspiration told Alberich that our death would do well.

This is Dieter's family. Please let me immediately assume the worst. "Dissolute noble" is a cliche, but it's also very often a historically accurate one.
And then of course there's the whole "having sex as a distraction from my troubles" which doesn't exactly lead to moderation either.

Eh... I wish him all the luck dealing with the belt of Chaos-be-Gone and the canon sword. This SoB may be sneaky, but a Khornite champion he is not and we had decent odds of dealing with that if the rolls had been better.

Proud and prone to anger born out of resentment? Wouldn't he want to target Heidi instead? Here comes this Haupt-Anderssen he never heard of (naturally) who got handed the Empress position and title on a platter when he never received what he thought was due to him.

This one's right out of history, he's the Empire's equivalent of a British Navy midshipman, who started as young as 11. They were basically apprentice naval officers.
I suppose it's unfortunate that his naval experience isn't going to be all that useful as Heir to the Kiesingers. Blutdorf is the most landlocked region of Western Stirland, with its towns not having access to direct river access. They have control over the overland Nuln Road, but the River Aver is a little far from their major population centres and access to the River Reik requires either going through the Nattern Forest or through Nuln territory. The discipline is nice I suppose. He's a cute kid, I'm sure he'll do wonderful.

"The rest of the family was starting to notice I hadn't married and beginning to fight amongst itself over who would inherit, and this was the best way to stop them." He shrugs with an easy and apparently genuine smile. "I just don't feel like there's an absence in my life that terribly needs filling with a wife. Reinhild and I enjoy each other's company, but it's not going to result in a marriage, nor in an heir if her amulet works the way the Jades say it does. And Blutdorf and Kirchham are happy to take every scrap of attention I can spare them. So why roll the dice with a new child when there's a perfectly good one ready to go?"

So Anton is definitely on the ace spectrum,

Yeah, but that would still be a danger. He could also have gotten informations from Slaanesh. Of course it's hardly certain we're the target, but let's not get too cocky.

Also, with Anton's return on screen, all we need is Wilhelmina and Kasmir and we have the full Stirland Gang special back in business. Maybe the Gryphon Wood will include Wilhelmina in the beginning as part of the EIC action, and it would be nice if Kasmir somehow got in here. I miss that guy. Murderhobo Supreme.

Also, I think this might be the first time Mathilde uses the Marksdwarf Pistol outside the firing range. I don't remember her ever using it in combat. Always with the revolvers.
IIRC we shot one goblin boss with it, the nat100 one from Eight Peaks.
Framed the Skaven for it.

[X] Plan: Find him
-[X] Approach Alric directly
-[X] Scour the city: The Longshanks

Note: We don't necessarily need Alric's assistance, only the next target and they are all getting stir crazy.
Doing something active is likely to be appealing to the guy.
Though Close the Noose is a nice option as well.
