Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
I read the comments for that chapter. Oy vey...

People only just now noticing the KLK references as if Gan Flexington wasn't enough of one already, taking the Cai option was a mistake, the dress/thread is a trap, and Cai (both junior and senior) is untrustworthy.

Boy am I glad I'm not a filthy RR peasant.

Didn;t SV do the same exact thing for quite a while?

I was under the impression that Sun Liling was the Matoi Ryuko analog in this story, as much as such a thing exists. The age dif between CRX and her sister is a little much for that parallel to work for them...

I'll be honest, I'm rooting for Ji Rong this time. He was always a sympathetic character because of his background but his attitude was annoying. But now it looks like he's come a long way in addressing his flaws. It might be realistic but it would be a little disappointing if the guy who started to buckle down and work really hard to imrpove just got humiliated again with nothing to show for his efforts. Not that Ling Qi didn't work hard too of course, but she's clearly found things other than cultivation that she wants to spend her time on. I don't think a loss for her would be devastating. If anything it would probably cause her to take a step back and re-evaluate her current cultivation approach, helping her in the long run.

But I may be biased since I ship Ji Rong and Ling Qi now that 'Bae' Meizhen and turtle boy are no longer options. I think a less one-sided rivalry where LQ starts to acknowledge Ji Rong would be a good step toward that.

I hope a bunch of ratmen explode up from underneath the arena.

Screw these slice of life Xianxia high school shenanigans bring me war!

I'd prefer that we beat Ji Rong now due to our new art set up and that we lose to him when he comes back from the jungle. It'd make sense for him to have a major power up from living in the death jungle, and Ji Rong already thought he'd lose to us when we were weaker last month. Plus we have a big advantage in terms of spirits that we plan on taking advantage of.
Also, turtle boy isn't completely of the table, Ling Qi basically just said that she doesn't have any romantic inclinations towards anyone right now and currently could only see turtle boy as a friend. After she deals with her trauma it's possible she could eventually rethink that.

Hm. I'm not at all sold on Ling Qi losing here much less at the tournament being good for the narrative, because we can see from GG the consequences of public loss of face, and based upon how LQ used her peformances to get an in with a member of the Wang it is liable to massively hinder her attempts to make political connections. Now if JR wins by his own merits so be it, but LQ has a basically inhuman work ethic, at worst equal cultivation resources imo as Liling is no longer the heir of the Sun Clan alongside JR not being an official vassal, and a foundation build upon a cultivation art given by a Great Spirit something JR lacks to our knowledge.

Besides JR likes being stepped on, and LQ would totally be mirrioring her approach to social by acting like she wins effortlessly while frantically working to keep up in the background. :V

From what I remember last time Ji Rong no sell Zhengui and beat Ling Qi half to death, it was very close match, there was no humiliation for him, if anything it's Ji Rong who wanted to humiliate LQ, who always had 'grow over your problems or ignore them' attitude.
Also about hard work, I actually expect Ji Rong to win here. Not because he is working hard, becomes more likeable as a character or need to to show something. No. Simply because he is better in straight duel, has higher talent and even more absurd luck than Ling Qi. He almost won on Tournament even so he was surprised by LQ defenses, had no spirits, no additional bonuses after Sun fraction lost and no 'Cai talisman', not even Qi cards in his fight. He still had better cultivation (Bronze 2 iirc and it's after he lost several weeks due to being first sealed and then imprisoned) and suit of Heaven Arts as if tailored for him.
So now, after 9 months of preparing I fully expect him to win. Easily.

I think it would be really satisfying if Ji Rong lost by only a tiny bit. Like I have feeling that Ji Rong has probs improved a lot.Like you said he doesn't have support from a Great Spirit from a current ducal heir. Liling probs still has resources, just not the same amount. However I imagine that his work ethic is around as insane as LQ, even if it wasn't before the tournament. Like I said earlier, he really seems like the type of guy who'd be really prideful and competitive. So I think LQ would win but like, by the skin of her teeth.

I don't think it's going to go that way. Ji Rong doesn't seem to be a direct vassal of the Sun like we are for the Cai. That means he likely has far less income for the basic pills and spirit stones.

Also we know the general quality of the arts and I don't think he got an art archive filled with quality arts. I bet he has arts that are more potent than the sect archive, but I don't think he has as many as us.

Green has a lot more roadblocks and hurdles than red or yellow did. You need more than just sheet talent to make progress through it. I doubt he hit a hard stop somewhere, but the nature of progressing through green means I don't think he is far ahead of us. It takes time to get all the quality arts you need to progress your domain and to under go the trails you need to do.

It's going to be tough. Whoever wins is going to have to work really hard at it.

All the good words. But it's Ji Rong we are talking about. Remember his dragon Relong. He was Yellow 1 four months ago, Green 1 last month. And I bet he is Green 2 now. Every time you think that Ji Rong is just talented boy he is doing something absurd and getting absurd bonuses. He is TOD's own shounen protagonist after all. :V......o_O

Well if he's Green 2 now, he's gonna have a harder time since LQ is at Green 3 now. I thought they were more or less at the same level.

You can say he's the protagonist, but we have our own advantages, like our massive support. Sometimes money does win out.

Hm. For this fight I'm expecting either a landslide win for LQ, or more likely a solid win by LQ that gives JR the feedback he looking for to prepare for the tournament. Now any battle they have during the inter sect tournament is going to be down to the wire as the Sun are almost certainly using the excuse of making JR an actual vassal of Liling to give him "cultivation resources yes", access to a wider selection of arts than what he can easily acquire from the Argent Sect, and most of all the opportunities available from hell jungle, which is most crucial for finding a second spirit alongside giving his dragon the opportunity to get good.

Essentially I expect the answer to who will win in the tournament to come down to whether, or not Ling Qi has enough tricks JR was lacking in information to prepare for in advance, which might very well come down to whether, or the dress wakes up.

I think you're underestimating Ling Qi's progress here. Back in our last fight, we did have to rely on Qi cards, but our build was also significantly less cohesive and powerful than it currently is. We now have a Ducal(+?) tier art that helps our defenses and mobility significantly as well as Count level arts in SNR, BKSD and UGM. All of these work together well in a way I'm pretty sure our arts back during the Ji Rong fight didn't. In particular, with techniques like WWS and BM, I think our defenses when faced with Ji Rong will be noticeably stronger than they were before. I would say that our advantage in terms of spirits is just as big as it was before, if not bigger. Last time, it was zero spirits vs two spirits while now, it's one spirit vs three. Zhengui was only late Yellow back in our previous fight as well. Now, he's Green/Bronze 2 with a number of A rank skills and B rank techniques. Based on his performance against Wang Chao, he will probably be able to contribute a lot more than he did before. I also doubt that Relong is Green 2. It's only been a month since he's achieved Green 1.

Ji Rong has probably kept pace with us and I would not be at all surprised if he's Bronze 4. I still believe that our improvements match his own, and that this battle will be a close one regardless of who wins.

You mean she'll realize that spending time on other things makes her weaker and go back to being an unstoppable cultivation machine?

I'd certainly hope Ling Qi didn't do so as we picked a route involving politics, and acquisition of resources necessary at the higher cultivation levels requires negotiation with political entities, which is offset to a certain extent of the material resources advantage from being a retainer of CRX. Well so long as we meet the high expectations of Shenhua, and well that will inevitably involve politics as shown by the requests CRX is making of LQ.

More in terms of rethinking her approach. Right now, LQ has essentially been doing the same things for months, balancing her time between politics, family/friends, missions, and cultivation, essentially treating them as boxes to tick off and living in the moment with little in the way of long-term plans. She has so little time that she hasn't been able to look for ways to do things more efficiently. She could be spending some time to study on cultivation theory, picking arts to form a coherent strategy instead of randomly choosing things that kind of fit together. She should also be spending time on figuring out how to deal with flaws in her own cultivation base. It may turn out that in the long run it would be better for her to put cultivation on pause while she grows up. Is it really a good idea to cultivate and essentially set her personality in stone while she's in her formative years? She could end up wasting valuable time in the future fixing cracks as her foundation proves to be unstable because her personality has changed too much in the meantime. Is it really worthwhile to spend so much time cultivating on her own instead of with instructors while she spends the rest of her time on other priorities?

Those are just some examples, but my point is there are a lot of ways to improve without letting your work consume your life.

The point is that Ling Qi has been working ON work not consuming her life. She's not good at it, but she's trying.
A perspective changing defeat would narratively suggest that this is a mistake and she should just focus on work alone.

Ji Rong has probably kept pace with us and I would not be at all surprised if he's Bronze 4. I still believe that our improvements match his own, and that this battle will be a close one regardless of who wins.
I doubt it. We have alot of "win harder" techs. If we start winning at all we build up momentum. Whoever wins I don't expect it to be close. Either he can disrupt our buff train or he can't. There is not much of a middle ground.

For example if ENM works he will forget he is even fighting us.
