Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

He had become the lightning.

In that moment, she met his eyes, and found commonality. Neither wind nor lightning could be caged. She would not trap him with laughing revelers again.
Appropriate for his themes, and counters what resulted in his loss in the previous match. Also the juxtaposition between wind/lightning should make for an interesting narrative going forward.

Well that was freaking kick ass. And nice to touch upon what it looks like to an outside observer what it looks like when Ling Qi gets to go full out on her active defences.

Off to one side, Hanyi stood proudly atop his defeated dragon. Her dress was a little charred, and she'd gotten some cuts and scrapes, but she was in good humor.
I see Hanyi is educating Relong in the virtues of "enjoying being stepped on" just like his big bro :p
But around her, she felt the dream deepen, the world blurring and rippling, in a moment of communication with Sixiang, she understood. As Ji Rong drew back his fist, the world bent, and Sxiang manifested, slender arms wrapped around his chest. Their features were feminine, and as they leaned forward to nip at his ear, space bent and his movements slowed.

"Heeeey cutie, things are about to get hot," Sixiang giggled.

It was at that point that magma concentrated down to a single point erupted under his feet, and Ling Qi flowed back to her feet, the revelers around her beginning to cheer and stamp their feet.
Sixiang is the best.
Oh my goodness Sixiang.
This kind of stuff is why Six is best potential husbando :3

That was the plan, she trusted Hanyi to deal with the dragon.

Ling Qi had managed that situation perfectly well at that level after all.
That is great. The fight overall is too, though I spent far too long searching for Shroud activation. I eventually found it, it just read like an Unruffled Stygian Reflection activation instead, though it was mentioned by name. The end was especially neat.

Rolls are mostly good. Presence was terrible, though. (Also, Qi is missing along with spirit, but Yrs was informed.)

EDIT: Qi is in now...significantly below average. I think that makes it exactly a 50% chance of hitting A30 qi next turn, which is pretty important for upkeep with SNR 4

Ling qi focused through the lightning, eyes flickering silver, and she saw him. A tracery of curling red lines like tattoos marked his flesh, and the wound in his chest bled freely, a crimson line running down his chest. Sparks crackled around his fingers and his eyes burned blue.
Oh hey, looks like Ji Rong picked up some western Blood Arts. That's cool.

They did look remarkably potent. Also much tamer then some of the stuff we've seen. Only a few drops of blood to create an impressive lighting field. I think his line of family arts is off to a good start.
The relative tameness might have been because his domain weapon (?) was giving a pretty big boost, and whatever Blood Art he knows helped push it along to completion.

Also, I'm loving how much Ling Qi's been getting into the Weilu imagery and themes. It all feels very fey in a Warhammer kind of way.

How does he come to this conclusion from our fight?
If he wasn't being 2v1'd, he'd probably have won, there.

I think he might have had something like a mirror to Ling QI's path in the Sect; where she had been friendless and lonely and tried immediately to change that, he'd run a gang and - either because they hadn't helped versus that Red he killed, or because they had and died for it - turned away from the idea of having subordinates/partners at all.

Well, that was a spectacular fight. I'm happy that we went with the Defensive option, it really gave everyone a chance to show their all. Ji Rong displayed some really impressive moves and Ling Qi displayed just how hard she is to take down, even against a person as powerful as Ji Rong with his destruction of everything arts.

Ji Rong also had some really cool anti-field effects, but in the end, our cooperation with our spirits and own arts prevailed in a dramatic display of silence and the End.

The fight was great. I liked the bit of back and forth they had. It's interesting to get a good view of someone else's domain and what they can do. I like that Ji Rong only has the Western Arts as a side and he is still primarily focused on Heaven techs.

Hanyi 's voice rose in song and drove Relong back with the voice of winter. She hopped from Zhengui's shell onto a squirming root, following as he retreated. That was the plan, she trusted Hanyi to deal with the dragon.

Ling Qi had managed that situation perfectly well at that level after all.

Now Sixiang is the only one who hasn't picked a fight with a dragon. Guess they'll have to find an earth dragon to bully to compete the set.

Ling Qi stepped forward and laid her hands on the gaping young man's smoking shoulders.

She sang silence, and the revelers roared.

That's quite a finish after no selling what looked like Ji Rong's finisher.

Like I said above, I really enjoyed it.

It's been said before but Ling Qi really is that secret boss with absolutely just the most bullshit mechanics, as we can all see here.

It also occurs that Ling Qi and Ji Rong are fairly close Yin/Yang equivalents to each other, with the noted similarities but the oppositions in their aesthetics and how they go about things.

For Ji Rong's comment, I imagine if Ling Qi were to respond it would go something like this:

"...It's not enough to keep getting stronger on my own, is it?"

"Why would you want to?"

Oh, and Sixiang is great. Obviously.

Great chapter!

Across the field, thunder boomed and a ring of inscribed discs appeared behind Ji Rong's shoulders. His fists rose, static crackled in whitening hair, and his silhouette seemed to frizz and jump.

In the field between them, Ling Qi felt their domains clash. Both were still formless, nameless. The Mist spilled into the world, and sang of winter's hardship, but Ji Rong protected nothing outward.

He had become the lightning.

In that moment, she met his eyes, and found commonality. Neither wind nor lightning could be caged. She would not trap him with laughing revelers again.

Then he was in front of her, his fist outstretched, sparking knuckles nearly touching her nose. Ling Qi became the wind, and scattered as the heavenly bolt crashed through her. In the boom of thunder, her laughter could be heard.

Even as her silhouette reformed, she heard glass shatter as his heels dug into the melted dirt and launched himself back at her.

This time a palisade of writhing wood rose to stymie him, even as a young girl's laughter mingled with a dragon's roar.
Muauahahahahahahahahahahaahah.

Dance on his face Hanyi!

HEH!

Its really interesting to note that even if he doesn't have an external domain and doesn't project anything outward it does have a presence that can be clashed with in the middle of the field. Which makes sense because internal domains are about changing how your body and form interacts with physical laws and that can extend past the bounds of his body.

Ling Qi stepped forward and laid her hands on the gaping young man's smoking shoulders.

She sang silence, and the revelers roared.
Just nooommm his most powerful technique, which probably cost him more than Ling Qi's defense did. If it was the same in qi cost, it certainly took longer to set up.

Commentary wise I'm actually pretty damn impressed with his set up as it stands. He knows he's going to get hit a lot, and its notable that the update doesn't describe him dodging much, so he finds ways to make use of that and to be tough enough to survive hits which fits with his earlier mentality of a brawler which hasn't changed much since.

His "I pop out of a spark of lightning" was definitely an inspired choice of either domain or art and is amazing. We're both non-solid cultivators but he's tuned it to be internal instead so it comes out looking a bit different. I wouldn't be surprised if part of his toughness is that stuff just didn't affect him due to being partly composed of lightning.

Ji Rong stared at her hand, as if it might bite him.

"...It's not enough to keep getting stronger on my own, is it?" he mumbled.

Ling Qi's silence was her answer. She thought it was obvious.

Ji Rong took a shuddering breath and took her hand. She helped him to his feet as the referee deactivated the field
This though is kind of highlighting his problem in that he wasn't really working together with Relong. Relong and Hanyi both took themselves out of the general clash of the fight somewhat like Ling Qi fighting Shenyuan (Yan Renshu's worm) while Meizhen and Renshu duked it out and that isn't really conducive to matching and beating Ling Qi.

He's probably going to have to have a talk about it with Relong, kind of like with Ling Qi and Zhengui but with different context. Relong does help, by distracting lesser opponents, but that's not making full use of his abilities.

He also I think has a bit of an issue in that he's trying to do a ramp build with a crescendo/ultimate move at the end, but its not qi efficient nor time efficient, and music just seems to be pulling ahead in ramp then crescendo shenanigans.
