The Long Founding (Warhammer 40k)

[] Plan: Great Crusaders
-[] Word Bearers: More than any other Legion, the Word Bearers, Sons of Lorgar Aurelian, creator of the Imperial Creed and the First Heretic, were masters of spreading ideals. Any Chapter born from them is likely to spread the teachings of their home planet far and wide. Beyond this, they were a generalist Legion, practicing all forms of war, though their investment in promoting their own philosophy and ideology makes them skilled at countering those who attempt the same.

-[] Emperor's Landing: One of the very first planets the Emperor conquered after leaving Terra. The exact details are not known, but the Emperor on this world battled a foe so devastating that he was pushed nearly to his limits, having barely ever used such a level of power before or since. To this day, his power permeates the area so thoroughly that much of the wildlife actually glows with his radiance at night. (Segmentum Solar).

I honestly don't see the appeal in trying to strangle the Ecclesiarchy in it's cradle. The Imperial Truth is an incredibly flawed doctrine that failed at it's primary purpose. The Ecclesiarchy is also incredibly flawed, but fundamentally it's flaws stem from the same foundational mistakes that were laid down previously. If we wish to truly reshape the Imperium into a better world I'd recommend Atherena since it is agnostic and democratic (thus able to focus upon governance), or perhaps Yuruld ll where the Chapter could make a peace between feuding forge worlds and work from there.

However I'm not going for that today. Instead I want to capture what the Word Bearers were supposed to be. Champions of the Emperor and bearers of his will upon the darkness. I am aware that this might not be the optimal use of Emperor's Landing, but I think it is a fun and interesting one nonetheless. I hope it will also satisfy the collective desire to see Imperial Truth Word Bearers without drowning out other aspects of their character.

I get that the Ultramarines are considered as the white beard of space marine chapters, but I feel that they should have some traits that are their own rather than what planet they're from.

Emperor's Landing likely has a Legendary Trait, given the leftover power from the Emperor.

Something to consider for the next Chapter.
Honestly, Emperor's Landing is tied with the 'Two Forgeworlds are fighting over this planet in their system between them' for worlds most likely to be removed from our list of possible worlds after the Imperial Truth Jungle World we're planning on using for this Chapter.

The 'Forgeworlds Fighting' due to the Forgeworlds, uh, you know. Accidentally doing too well fighting with no one to restrict them once they stop caring about the locals needing to still be around. Emperor's Landing for the simple reason that it is absolutely going to be converted into a Shrine World which would rapidly start restricting if we can convert it into an Astartes Homeworld. If only because the Ecclesiarchy doesn't want to lose one of it's more valuable worlds.

That said, I do want to create a chapter on Emperor's Landing if we can after this. I just also want to make it with the Thousand Sons geneseed to see if we can both fix some of those mutation issues and exploit the hell out of that legacy of the Emperor.

What are folks thoughts on one of the next few chapters being perhaps an Ultramarine Primary/Thousand Sons Secondary Chimeric Chapter for Emperor's Landing? Try to maximise both the Planet Traits and the Psyker Legion Traits for peak 'Well, the Grey Knights probably won't say no to help'.

This chapter however is definitely going to be the Ultramarines Primary/Word Bearers Secondary Chimeric on Imperial Truth World.

Yeah, the Ultramarines gene-seed is very stable, especially in comparison to others. While more bland in comparison to others, it is much more open to adaptability and tolerance with its modifications.

I don't think it work unless you want that chapter go Renegade. Isn't that kind of part of the Lore that most Fallen believe Loyalist Dark Angels betrayed Emperor? I know that some Fallen really betrayed Imperium and fell to forces of Chaos but for confirmation.
For most Fallen they were Caliban recruited marines who knew nothing of Luthor betrayal and their first interaction with the rest of the legion was them launching orbital bombardment on Caliban and the Lion running them through with his sword.

No shit a bunch of them believe the lion and his sons are traitors.

If we want to balance out Imperial Truth with Imperial Church, we could make an Ultramarine/Word Bearers chapter on Emperor's Landing next turn.

Don't think a lot of people would like to repeat our choices, though.

(And I personally would really prefer a Blood Angels/Thousand Sons chapter for Emperor's Landing).

There are several Legions, that we we're told that they have "most stable geneseed": Ultramarines, Alpha Legion, Iron Warriors, Dark Angels, Imperial Fists, (I remember reading info that Night Lords had very stable geneseed pre-Heresy)

I'm for creating a Imperial Truth chapter to balance the Imperial Creed. I don't think it will be able to stop the ecclesiarchy completely, but it might be able to challenge it at its worst and/or temper it. Also I just think it's interesting.

[] Plan Countering the Creed
-[] The Ultramarines: The most pure and stable Space Marine Gene-seed, the Ultramarines, sons of Roboute Guiliman, are a lineage that gives no great benefits but in turn does not have great downsides. They are tactically balanced, seeking to practice all forms of warfare rather than master just a few, and stand as the most numerous of the surviving Space Marines. They do seem to have started a minor tradition of maintaining ties with their successor Chapters, however. Whether this is a boon or a curse remains to be seen.
--[] 1 Charge of Potent Gene-Seed (For Ultramarines Roll)
--[] 1 Charge of Secondary Gene-Seed (Word Bearers) + 1 Charge of Potent Gene-Seed. (Allows two separate rolls for both chapters + base traits of each)
---[] 1 Charge of Legendary Gene-Seed. (For Word Bearers Roll)
-[] Akasha II: In all regards Akasha is a completely standard jungle Death World, with it's main standout 'trait' being the fact that the Imperial Truth seems to have been adopted very quickly and become strongly entrenched in the short amount of time since it's adoption.

That is true.

Anyway, I think either Imperial Truth or Emperor's Landing. Given Gulliman Order minded mind, which is something Chaos hates, and with Word Bearer's almost zealous belief...I believe that combination will be pretty strong either way.

Important note, we need to work on the Imperial World this turn since once the current era ends they are likely to be wiped out once the church starts picking up without a Space Marine chapter to back them up.

Yeah, don't think it's possible to completely stop the Church from forming. The main appeal of the Imperial Truth is to try to create an alternative choice. Hopefully to balance out the Creed or at least try to mitigate the worst aspects that will form.

I don't know about the Ultramarines not having a legendary trait. They're famously one of the legions' most organized, compliant, and professional. The 13th is considered the last weapon of Unity because they would recruit the young and future warriors of reticent polities and tribes that had resisted the Unification of Terra. It turned war orphans of a society predisposed to hating the regime into model Marines.

There is also "meta" problem of Ultramarines Geneseed "working this way"

Due to wanting to minmax trait gain, some people will only vote now on "Ultramarines (Primary)/*insert any other Legion* (Secondary)" plans

Yeah...I see that problem popping up...for me, I hope to enjoy and have fun in this quest. Even with mwta knowledge, we should not mid-max everything.

I have considered reworking the ultramarines to some extent so they add their own legendary traits to the planet roll if you spend a LG on them but I haven't decided for sure yet.

What do you guys think?

I say that Ultramarines should have their own traits, both normal and legendary if less than other Chapters to show their adaptability. For example, you could make them rolling for extra planetary trait a 50/50 kind of thing. For every Chapter with Ultramarine geneseed, primary or secundary, you roll if they get the extra traits, if yes, Ultramarines roll for another planetary trait, if not, they roll as normal.

For example, Ultramarines could have Legendary trait that makes them extremely proficient administrators, so they homeworlds are more prosperous, they get more recruits from it, slighty better equipment than average Chapter. Or have them be master negotiators, so they get extra rolls to make positive relations, both within Imperium factions and outside of it with, for example, Ulthwé, and have more allies, making them extremely successful in battle as long as they have someone to cooperate with. For example, imagine Ultramarine Chapter fighting Orks, no allies, they make a single roll and fail, now the same battle, Ulthwé comes to help them and The Chapter gets to make two rolls, take the better one and add to it bonus from Ulthwé, they win the battle.
