Super Robot Quest

It suddenly hit me that we don't have any missile trucks. Would you guys prefer turning one into a combine unit for Banner or the Perseus? I was thinking Banner at first, because military hardware, but then I remembered that the Perseus desperately needs more attack power, since it's basically a wall that can only technically fight back; it doesn't even have any notable weapons at the moment except a sword it's not strong enough to use yet.

Also, bit of a guideline snippet for the personality of an AI that pilots a Steed: Likes high-risk machines for keeping him on his toes. (Being a challenge-runner gives him a reason to prefer Steeds while hopefully minimizing recklessness.)

edit: Sorry, wasn't quite awake yet when I posted this, so I got a bit ahead of myself. Kinda jumped straight from "we don't have this" to "which use would work better?" while skipping the question of "do we even want this?" in the first part.

Second bit... I was trying to brainstorm a new potential pilot (AI, since I'm still skeptical about putting a human in there when we've got attacks that do enough damage to kill them instantly) who'd actually want a Steed without him being a reckless thrill-seeker, but rereading it now that I'm awake it kinda comes off as "this is how it must be" while trying to shove all the actual work onto someone else.

I'll have a post out in the next day or so. Just dealing with work burnout at the moment. Next stop, deployment options for Defense of the Yukimura Institute.

And what if Perseus stays a wall? I've been reading Log Horizon not long ago, and the idea of a Main-ish Character who is not a DPS has a certain appeal. Doesn't Tellison (primary pilot of Perseus, IIRC) have command-y skills? Consider: Perseus, being a wall, blocks the opponents, and buffs the support units, who deal the actual damage.

I preemptively vote to call him Tony and make his frame polished stainless steel (or paint it red-with-gold, but that's kitch).

I also feel like the Perseus actual DPS is deceptive if you just look at it's loadout, because it effectively has four actions every turn due to the Co-Pilot + Psychic Theater on top of all the buffs it can give to damage dealing support units like the Argonauts.

I'm fine with it specializing in tanking. I just don't want it to specialize in tanking to such an extent that it becomes incapable of anything else and relies entirely on its allies for DPS, is all.

On the other hand, it rolls at disadvantage to attack, and thus its personal attacks will be missing more frequently than I'm comfortable with, and it doesn't have any attacks other than walking up and punching stuff right now if you don't count pilot abilities. That said, having four actions does, at least, mitigate that inaccuracy through sheer volume of attacks... but I'd still like something better than a 1d6 attack roll.

Besides, it's not like it's got anything to combine with yet, so why not try to use combinations to compensate for what I see as a weakness? As a bonus, using combinations to give a Super Robot more weapons (or, in this case, any weapons at all) is a time-honored tradition.

that's as an idea for what to do with the Perseus than any I have either heard or come up with so far. Sure why not. Maybe it will give us more ways to figure out how to get the sixth Super Robot Voltron Expy up and running when we eventually get around to building the sixth Super Robot.

Something for you guys to consider: If you want a robot to serve a specific role, you should probably decide on what, exactly, you're combining with it. For example, I wanted the Perseus to have some weapons of its own, and settled on a missile truck as a method of giving it those weapons.

So... if you want to double down on its durability, start thinking of vehicles that'd be good for that.

Its still too soon for that. Beowulf is our primary blooded Super Robot while Purseus and Thunderbolt are still working up into basic forms with combine units. Right now as far as I know, Beowulf doesn't have a specific role other than brawler and that's liable to change as more upgrades are developed for it and the other Super Robots.

Theoretically we need several kinds of Roles.
1. Brawler
2. aerial combat.
3. Long Range.
4. Support,
5. Defensive
6. Offensive.
7. Aquatic.

The list goes on, and we are going to have to take all of that and more into consideration as time passes. Right now Perseus is our primary defensive wall Super Robot, Beowulf is Brawler, and Thunderbolt is aerial combat focused.

Perseus being defense focused is why we sent it to Japan. Same for Thunderbolt being sent to help with Blue September And hopefully with Oculus along as recon if my omake is canon.

Perseus being Defense oriented is also the primary reason for developing the Sledder as a Support Unit.

Theres no reason for it to have a Timberwolf like Combination because that's literally its default state. Therefore, leveraging that bulk in new ways (speed and maneuverability) to turn it into a frighteningly effective and mobile wall strike me as the correct way to go about it.

got a few questions for everyone in regards to the Battleship we may or may not be building someday.

1. Would using a world war 2 Era Battleship as the basis for a space going battleship be easier than designing and building one from the Keel up?
2. If we decide to use a World War 2 Era Battleship, what class do we use? (Granted there really are not really many good choices available.)
3. Would it be better to build the Battleship first without the Super Weapon or wait until we get as Super Weapon to install in said Battleship?
4. If we want to add a super weapon to the Battleship, It might be best to start researching it as soon as possible so that when the time comes we can install it straight away instead of having to do a full remodel to take advantage of said Super Weapon?

Points that need to be made, All Carriers need escort, and the Sergey Gorshkov is Humanities only space going vessel. So due to it's importance as both a Carrier and our only way to safely engage the Free Brothers in space, we may need to give serious thought about building it some escorts as well. Pretty sure the Russian's won't mind us using their fleet to build those escorts barring the Battleship Class that we may or may not be building anytime soon if ever.

Two more things that need to be stressed is that we really need to get More Pegasus class dropships to carry our Super Robot Platoons around.
And then there is the fact that if we want to take a Super Robot platoon or 2 with us when the time comes for us to deal with the Regent's problem we will need to build a dedicated Space Going vessel specifically designed to carry them. The Pegasus class probably isn't specced for space travel.

Fun fact, Did you know that the Iowa class is actually longer than the Yamato class? The Yamato class was wider than the Iowa but shorter than the Iowa class was making the Iowa class longer by around 20 feet.

...You might get more meaningful answers if I had any idea at all what you were talking about.
which part of my post do you not understand? It would help if you pointed out what you are misunderstanding. if its about the Battleship,

1. There has been talk about building a version of the Space Yamato in this thread and how it would be both interesting and awesome to have one here too.
2. for the Pegasus class, we only have one of them right now and the long term plan was always to have one Pegasus class dropship per Super Robot Platoon, Not 1 but 6 - 7 in total with 2 being on standby at all times to take over if one of the primaries got damaged or destroyed.
3. The Sergey Gorshkov originally belonged to the Russians before the DFRI appropriated and turned it into a Space Warship after it was destroyed just because we could. (No, that is literally the reason.)
4. Our agreement with the Regent, The being that is giving Jessica her Magical Girl Powers has us accompanying it to its final destination to find out what went wrong that caused it to leave wherever it began its journey from and crash land on Earth.

I may have misspoken. It'd probably be more accurate to say "I could give a meaningful answer if I had any knowledge at all on the topic you're attempting to bring up."

As is, the only thing I could come up with was logistical concerns about our ability to build another Pegasus, which I didn't feel worth posting.

Pretty sure acquisition of the Engines is all we really need since the Pegasus Class is based on DFRI tech, And the engines are also based on DFRI tech after we remodel them once we get them. And given our heightened priority now that we are about to engage several enemies one after the other in such rapid succession, I think we might need to if Basarin allows it, to make emergency requisitions for dropship engines that we can thus remodel and build the Pegasus class around.

Edit: Heck, If I thought I could get away with it, I would have the Build team building the Pegasus Class Dropship with help from the girls and any of the researchers that might be available.

Problem is, dropships and their engines are apparently in such short supply that I'm pretty sure we could only get our hands on the one we built the Pegasus out of by going to the scrapyard (kinda like... basically all our other designs, actually). Honestly, we might be able to get our second one faster by starting completely from scratch; it's not like we don't have the blueprints after damn near completely rebuilding the thing.

Actually I don't think we can, I think the Engines are specialized somehow and if we could have built the dropships without having to get them than we probably would have done it by now IIRC. And we didn't get the Engines in a junkyard. they had been deemed defective and were being sent somewhere, I forget but the only reason we got them was because no one wanted defective engines. Mind you I forget the details and its been a while so.

How 'bout dem Carrier Submarines?

More seriously, I think that if DFRI develops their connections with other DF branches more, the options for "Do you have anything we can retrofit into a mothership?" might appear more often. So take those Liason options, folks! More immediately, the "After-Market Purchase" thing looks like it could evolve into drop-pods of some kind; and C-Crystal development might result in something that allows the robots to accelerate into orbit (or directly into the battlefield).

Do we want to use the helicopter as a frame to design a support craft?

We can integrate Faedium Crystal and C-crystal into the rocket engine once the research shows results right?

As you can see, my job is some malfunctioning dream eating machine and is sapping the urge to do anything hobby related. I will try to have a post out this week before the turkey-method of food coma.

So, general update for anyone who might be keeping tabs on this quest still:

I'm in the middle of transitioning out of my job to do something else. Last few months has shown it doesn't respect my time, and it's burnt me out something fierce. I won't say much more than that, but I've been dealing with some ludicrous things at work and we'll leave it at that.

I may get back to posting in a month or so, but nothing quick - even if I had the tine, the muse for this hasn't really come back just yet.

Hope everyone's been well.
