Super Robot Quest

Did they crib off the Foxhound for that?

Hiroki did say that he was going to crib some of the moves that Foxhound used on the Kaiju that was attacking San Diego.

On another note I update my AI list so take a look at it if your interested. I only did Frankie and Charlie while Leaving Veekie's alone.

Hiroki: Hey hey Prof can we -

Yukimura, arms deep into a Falcon already: Shut up and let me concentrate!

Some things did get missed, true. Those will be adjusted for following turns. I know I didn't catch everything and some flavor texts need to change, but I just ask you give it a turn to shake out. :p

It's okay, there are many things to work out. Didn't you say you would update the char sheets as well?

It's called March to the Second Generation for a reason. We're finishing maturing our First Generation designs and getting the balls rolling on the Second.

I would say that getting the perfected Pile Driver before the Kaiju Horn would be good, as the two can potentially synergize and we'll need anti-armor weaponry soon, especially if we go fight Bandit and/or Westphalians mecha.

ope you enjoyed this. And everyone! Please have a safe and wonderful Holiday!

You mean Christmas, no need to be PC over it.

Because this would make even those nutjobs that Richard Callaghan worked with blanch...at least at first. Hiroki was reasonably confident that he could convince some of them to try just for fun.

Now you just have done it! Cal will wake up tomorrow thinking that a long-distance magnetic catapult will do wonders for the second SR squad whenever a dropship isn't available.

I'm actually pretty pleased with getting Basarin to agreeing to give us the option of acquiring old school rocket engines.

The potential applications are just...HNNNNNNNNNGHSOGOOD

Yes, we need to set up a massive railgun capable of firing our mecha through the stratosphere at hypersonic speeds so they can land anywhere on the planet. The Codex Astartes shall name this maneuver Steel Rehn.

Gets me thinking on what Jiro said about his Uncle. I have to wonder, if the Institute have ways of predicting the Kaiju but aren't overly interested in taking the fight to Sheol then what exactly are they planning to do in the long run? They can't just keep reacting to Kaiju showing up with one mech, since even a super mech can't be in two places at once. Yukimura is apparently a huge genius and I'm sure he has a plan so maybe it's just a Holdo situation? Where he has a plan but for some vague and ill-defined reason he refuses to reveal it to his peers?

Theoretically, it might be that they just don't know where he's hiding.

They can detect Kaiju movements, but not wherever Sheol's fortress is, so it's damcon until they can track him down.

That's true, and it makes sense given what we know about the Yukimura Institute as an organization.

From what I can tell the three major human allied super robot organizations are somewhat balanced by two main limitations, Time and Resources:
-The Yukimura Institute had a lot of time to prepare, but limited resources, which is why they're the most technologically advanced human faction but only have one robot.
-Mander Security Solutions had a decently balanced level of both, they have alright tech and they also have the resources to field it repeatedly against constant attacks from the Westphalians.
-Finally there's us, we were late out of the gate but so long as we proved our mettle to the powers that be we were granted all the resources we could need.

In an interesting dichotomy the "canon" enemy factions to each of these organizations also have the same range of these resources:
-Sheol has Time>Resources
-Westphalia has Time=Resources
-Kausen has Time<Resources Although the Kausen break the mold a bit, but still mostly true considering their recent crash and scramble to rebuild.

This basically shows how Yukimura might not even be able to do more than what he's doing with what he has, of course this would be a different story if he was willing to share his tech but that doesn't seem to be likely given that he hasn't so far even after all of this chaos. Maybe this anime is going to end up being about how all the good guys needed to do to win was just work together, and friendship was the real prize all along.

If I had to guess, though, it reads more like Yukimura Rin is actively choosing not to look; hark, a quote:
"Not too much." Shaking his head, he explains, "It's nothing personal, really. Uncle just wants to use Mercury as a shield. Just react to whatever shows up, you know? But Sheol isn't going to go away if we just react like it's a monster-an-episode approach. That's why I went out. Just to see what I could see." His expression hardens. "Uncle's stubborn, and insisted that his way was the best. I disagreed with that. We agreed to disagree, and I went out in the world. Then...well." He gestures to the pictures. "You know."
Like, for whatever reason, Jiro, admittedly a biased source, thinks that his uncle is insisting on remaining passive, on remaining reactive, and I think this only makes sense under two possibilities:
  1. the Yukimura Institute doesn't have the resources to spare
  2. the Yukimura Institute knows where Sheol's fortress is, and believes that it's got a "you must be this buff to crack without letting Sheol" defense, which the Yukimura Institute believes no organization or combination is actually that buff (yet), and is thus holding back until they or someone else is that buff
Admittedly, this is spitballing, but it seems to make sense to me.

Traditionally achieved through the use of deep sea, volcanic or deep underground bases!

Also didn't the interludes establish Sheol's base was underwater somewhere? There's a difference to fighting giant monsters on land, and fighting giant monsters underwater. Just how water proof is the Mercury V? Because unless it's waterproof enough even when a giant monster tears its arm off in the bottom of the ocean, being able to beat the hell out of a giant monster out in the air doesn't mean its a good idea to fight one in their own home turf.

Even beyond how ice powers might not work as well deep underwater.

"I am here, sister," a new voice announces. Within moments, a new avatar appears on Sam's monitor.
Hey, Basarin, was rereading the quest and noticed that this link doesn't seem to be valid any more. Felt someone should mention that.

@Happerry, good catch! I'll see about getting that fixed later today. Thanks!

Seems to be well in favor of Marching to the Second Generation. When I get back, I'll see about rolling them dice for it.

Hope everyone's having a great Christmas Eve. :D

When we send a backup team to watch over Anna's intelligence team I am in favor of sending the Beowulf with the Timberwolf, Foxhound, and the Axiom Team on the Pegasus Dropship.

Dice rolls are going to be posted come sometime tomorrow. The full Turn Results and sundry will be posted over the weekend.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas Day. :)

Also, I found this again in a YouTube crawl. Given that this is a super robot quest...enjoy!

Gotta love that guy that was fighting giant robots on foot and keeping up. Also: Dai Guard! The Real Robot that wanted to be a real boy Super Robot!

Gotta love that guy that was fighting giant robots on foot and keeping up.

Not the first time SRW's used someone badass enough to fight against mecha-class enemies on foot.

SRW Alpha - the very first one to really have an overall coherent storyline that we're familiar with rather than just a mission set - had Giant Robo in it. It depicted one man with enough guts to fight an Angel on foot. He wasn't terribly effective at dealing it damage, mind, but he held up Sakhiel long enough for the actual players to arrive.

I'd like to know their names (and series), please. And if they aren't too long, their stories.

I'm working on the dice rolls, but a quick explanation:

The guy you saw in the posted video was Viscount Pygman, one of Dr. Hell's lieutenants from the recent remake of Mazinger Z (not Infinity, mind you). I don't know terribly much about him, so I can't elaborate too much. Just that he's one of the weirder characters in a series chock full of them.

The other guy...the man who went toe to toe with an Angel on foot (and even got a nod from Gendo himself, noting that only 'that man' could even consider such a method) is one of the villains from Giant Robo, one of the main officers of the organization 'Big Fire.' That man is Alberto the Shockwave. This was a man who decided, in the middle of a fight, that an explosion that came just a little too close to him was perfect for lighting a cigar.

Dice rolls to follow!

Right! Let's get them dice rolls going as I promised.

Plan: March to Second Generation
- Over There (3 RP)
- Excavation Again (2 RP)
- Pilot Training - Heavy Investment (4 RP)
-- Diana's Assistance, Streamlined Resource Flow
- Engineering: Jiro's Assistance on Building a Seeker Second Verse
- Variable Configuration - Heavy Investment
-- Perseus Combination Forms.
- Science: Ivanna's and Katarina on C-Crystal Development (Reroll fail, +1 die)
- Combine Configuration Shield (4 RP)
-- Kausen Researcher Assistance

The Oracle of Gasparton - Ignatov, his team, and Patch are making steady progress with the Oracle Matrix. She has already gained sapience and has taken to calling herself 'Delphi' after one of the most well-known of the Classical World.

You just hope she isn't as cryptic and maddeningly vague as her namesake was.

Cost: 1 RP Locked (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 2 Turns
Chance for Breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 4-6); Patch on standby, provides <unknown>
Upon completion, Galbinus will offer you a selection of boons to call upon

Rolling (2d6) = 6+5!
Great Success!
According to Dr. Igantov and Patch...Galbinus can rest easy about Delphi's capabilities. Oh dear.
A Sheepish Request - The Admiralty of the EUNDF are...perplexed when they catch word of what you're doing. All they wanted was for the ship to be repaired, maybe refurbished with some of the latest advancements from the DFRI. K-Scale, K-Circuits, maybe even the Energy Blasters. You know. Something sensible.

Bah, you said back (not literally, but in spirit).

What you tell them is that the Sergey Gorshkov is going to become the pioneering test platform for even more revolutionary technologies that are coming down the pipeline, and that the Pacific Fleet would have the honor of fielding it for the very first time.

What you don't tell them is that this is one very, very expensive and elaborate way to prove a point.

You didn't have to go to these lengths to repair the supercarrier. You're doing it because you can, and they can't.

Yes, you are petty. What of it? A man's got to have a hobby when he's surrounded by this much crazy.

Cost: 1 RP Locked (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 5 Turns (Remember that bit about long-term? It's still a thing.)
Chance for Breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 5-6)

Rolling (2d6) = 6+5!
(QM Note: Two of these in a row? Wat is this six-sided nonsense.)
...do you want to know what they're laughing about? You're not sure you want to know what they're laughing about.

Pilot Training - Medium Investment (2LT Zhang)
Cost: 1 RP Locked Streamlined Production (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 2 Turns
Chance for breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 4-6 (Diana's Creativity))

Rolling (2d6) = 3+3!
As it turns out, making the transition to really piloting a mecha by our standards is a bit more difficult than we anticipated. Callaghan and Tellison just make it look really easy.
Pilot candidate is showing promise, but is having some difficulties.

Pilot Training - Medium Investment
Cost: 1 RP Locked (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 2 Turns
Chance for breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 5-6)

And kudos to @Alectai for spotting this earlier; I just forgot to put this in, is all.

Rolling (2d6) = 5+1!
One Success!
On the other hand, all pilots (Ichiro included) are pitching in to help get her adjusted!

Building a Seeker - Second Verse - Jiro is now working in the Engineering Department. It didn't take him very long to immediately see the Seeker project, and his eyes are already alight with ideas for how to put the finishing touches on them.

Lana is loudly insisting that 'the clown butt out of my project.'

Just for that, you think you might have him 'help.'

Cost: 1 RP Locked
Duration: 1 Turns
Chance for Breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 4-6; Jiro's Engineering Expert applied)

Rolling (2d6) = 5+4!
Critical Success!

So.

It seems you have the ability to find people who think the laws of physics are helpful suggestions than fact.

Colonel Bernard is going to be very confused. Happily, mind.
Experimental - Psychic Echoes - Wilde and Henry have Sam's notes in hand, and they're also noticing that the Psychic Echoes phenomenon is not just a fluke. This only applies to machinery that is operated with the MMI helmets, but it feels like things are becoming hardcoded physically into the materials depending on what actions the MMI expects out of them. Almost like wearing in a brand new pair of shoes.

This bears further investigation.

Experimental Projects - Heavy Investment
Cost: 2 RP Locked (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 3 Turns
Chance for breakthrough at Advantage (3d6, Threshold of 5-6)

Rolling (3d6) = 6+1+6!
Stubborn Lana kicks in!
Rolling (1d6) = 2!
Greater Success!
Henry: It's a little more complicated than just preprogramming motions. But we can definitely preprogram internal commands to initiate those motions.
Wilde: It's like wearing in shoes. Really big, giant, metal shoes that shoot railgun rounds!
Henry: The LT wears sizes 10 wide.
Variable Configuration - Heavy Investment (Perseus)
Cost: 4 RP (1-2 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 3-5 Turns
Chance for breakthrough at Advantage (3d6, Threshold of 5-6)

Rolling (3d6) = 6+4+3!
One Success!
With the arrival of the new AIs soon, it's pretty darn important to see what forms can actually combine properly with the Perseus. Wilde and Henry have determined a wide pool to start with, but until then, the new arrivals are probably going to be in the Jackal frames for the moment.

SCIENCE.

...what?
The Dragon's Horn - Where Sample Zero had much more success with armor plating and industrial materials, the Horn seems much more focused on killing. No real surprise there, but Sam wants to know if that means you could compel it to be more compatible with weaponry.

Cost: 1 RP Locked
Duration: 1 Turn
Chance for breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 5-6)

Rolling (2d6) = 4+5!
One Success!
Sam just sent word that he has a very good idea of what can and can't be done with the Dragon's Horn. It's going to take some creativity with some decidedly uncooperative materials, but he reckons he and his people can deliver the plans for something just mean.
Gifts of the Regent - C-Crystal Development - Lots of energy and an internal and complex AI system that manages it. Max is fairly certain that this means it's got its own methods of developing new C-Crystals, but requires outside input.

In short, time to drag Ignatov into this project to see if you can bridge the gap between alien operating systems and our own.

Cost: 2 RP Locked (2 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 2 Turns
Chance for Breakthrough at Disadvantage (1d6+1d6 (Katarina's Support), Threshold of 4-6; +1 Reroll Ready (Ivanna's Calm))

Rolling (2d6) = 2+6!
One Success!
Thanks to the added attention of Katarina and Ivanna, they have additional insights into how to properly make and channel the C-Crystals.

Katarina: These are insights, mind you. We're still figuring this stuff out! >_<#
Ivanna: Please bear with us. We appreciate your patience!
Gifts of the Regent - Early Space Flight - Exactly as it sounds. It boils down to basic design principles for space-worthy vessels - engine designs, stress tolerances, even some pointers on how to ensure survival in the eventuality of void combat. Max really can't comment much more on it until she's given the time and resources to really dig into it, but from everything she's seeing, she should be able to make something out of this.

You are flabbergasted by the amount of resources Max is asking for, but she just gives you a flat stare whenever you bring it up. "Super Robots are expensive as it is, now you're asking us to tack on a Space Program. From scratch."

Well, when she puts it that way...

Cost: 1 RP Locked (1 RP Locked Next Turn)
Duration: 2 Turns
Chance for Breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 5-6)

Rolling (2d6) = 5+2!
One Success!
Max: Why!? Why did my degree not include rocket science!?
Regent: If I may-
Max: QUIET YOU!
Combine Configuration Shield

Cost: 4 RP (One Time Investment)
Duration: 1 Turn
Chance for Breakthrough (2d6, Threshold of 5-6; Zulu is adding +1 to the lowest value this roll)

Rolling (2d6) = 6+6!
Critical Success! Bonus not applicable; doesn't get higher than this!
So. Zulu apparently has experience with Dispersion Fields.
It...uh. It really shows.

...these dice, I swear.

Uh, that being said, we were doing a parallel Pilot Training this turn at Heavy Investment? Not just the one that was finishing from before.
