Hell, humans have molars too. We're omnivores after all. Well, I'm more of a carnivore I suppose. I really like my meat. Fruits and vegetables not so much, although cheese and bread are acceptable additions.

So what you're saying is... You really like Meat-Lover's Pizza? That's what I got out of that. Though that may just be because I want pizza. You could also be saying you like Ham-And-Cheese sandwiches.

Put it this way, my diet typically consists of meat, meat, more meat, maybe a slice of cheese or three (a day), and maybe six slices of bread in a day. But not always bread or cheese.

I must say, really enjoying Garyx so far, for all that he's a bit of a pyro(big surprise) he seems rather laid back. Clearly becoming a vestige has mellowed him out some.

Shenanigans 25 : Nonsense V
Brockton Bay

Welshie looked out from the bridge of the ship that bore the name HMS Prince of Wales, which was also her. Sunrise was due in a few minutes, and the sky had the glow of the false dawn giving way to the real thing. From here, she could see the activity going on in the bay, of the various ships coming to life.

The Gearing class destroyer USS Bonhomme Richard was already active, her crew out on deck squaring things away and getting ready for the crowds of civilians wanting to tour a warship. There was also a great deal of interest in the vintage battlewagons of the Royal Navy that were in port. Fortunately, there were only a few enthusiasts allowed for the complete, get-to-see-some-secure-areas tours, including a pair of naval historiographers from the United Kingdom. There were a couple from the US Navy as well. All had been thoroughly vetted.

OK you lot, Welshie sent over the concept comms. Status report.

Repulse, ready.

Hermes, ready.

Arunta, standing by.

Vampire, standing by.

Panpakapan!

Welshie facepalmed. Leander, have you been watching anime again?

Yep! Leander, ready.

Poi?

It's too early in the morning for this, ladies, Welshie growled to the assembled avatars of the mental models of her task force. That data link to Earth Aleph was becoming almost more trouble than it was worth.

Jupiter, ready.

Electra, ready.

Tenedos, standing by.

Thanet stands ready.

Thracian's good.

Stronghold's got some problems, we're working on 'em and will be ready on time.

Exeter will be ready on time.
Welshie knew the light cruiser was currently standing watch out at sea.

Oi, the lot of us are rarin' ta go! That would be the mental models of Leander, Perth, and Hobart. Those three were thick as thieves in whatever they were doing, either supporting each other in operations, or whatever cockeyed scheme they were working on.

Vivid's good!

Porpoise is ready!

The girls and I are currently engaged in salvage and repair,
Springdale stated. We won't be open for tours because of the ongoing work, but we will be presentable.

Very good, ladies,
Welshie stated. Festivities get underway at 1300 Romeo, so once things are squared away, take a break and take some liberty. Try not to get into a mess with the Yanks, please?

The request was meant for everyone, but it was directed in particular to the troublesome trio of light cruisers. She'd had to bail them out of the Coast Guard brig on two occasions already, and was getting ready to assign some harsher punishment duties than those she'd already assigned to them: public service, hard labor, cleaning out bilges and the like.

She was wondering if she was going to have to build battlements to hang them off of as a punishment.

She couldn't complain about their combat service, only about the shenanigans they got up to when they were bored. Which, according to her 'father', were the stuff of legend, not seen since the end of World War Two, during which the local dockworkers undertook a campaign of dealing with German spies trying to cause trouble in the Docks.

The tales were quite lurid, involving a lot of improvised weapons, angry dockworkers, a few explosions, and several German spies pleading with the FBI and OSS officers to please arrest them and give them a nice, safe jail cell and keep those crazy dockworkers away from them!

The craziest part was the stories were true, and well documented.

Welshie could behave herself. She tried to comport herself with all the dignity one of Her Majesty's captains should. No, it was the mental models of her subs, light cruisers, and destroyers that were going to drive her spare.

Still, she had an informal appointment to keep.

Repulse, she transmitted, I'm stepping out. I should be back 1100 hours, barring unforeseen events. Can I trust you to keep this lot from causing trouble?

Ma'am,
came the battlecruiser's reply, I will do my best!

Very good, Prince of Wales out.
With that, she closed the channel.

The south side of Brockton Bay had long been the domain of the city's Asian communities, a collection of several groups from various countries of the Pacific Rim. It was here that Li Xiao maintained the civic order of the area, in the way the Triads and Yakuza would in the communities they controlled. Today, he was walking through it, seeing for himself how everything was doing.

Per the Dragon's orders, any criminal enterprise was kept low key to avoid scaring off tourists and their money. Gambling and prostitution, both kept out of sight, had long been the Asian Bad Boys main source of income along with the protection money paid by businesses. Also per the Dragon's instructions, a fair portion of it went back into the community. Things were cleaned up and put in good order.

To Li Xiao, it was confusing as all hell. He had no illusions about his position in the ABB. He was one of Great Lung's mundane enforcers, and one of less than a handful of people that had his respect. With Oni Lee's passing and Lung's transferring the title of Dragon to an actual dragon…

He wasn't quite sure what to think, especially when Kenta's daughter turned out to be a dragon as well. The rumors of huli jing, gumiho, kitsune, jorogumo and all manner of insanity were more persistent. They were indeed fortunate that most appeared to hold humanity in higher regard than their mythical counterparts did.

The one thing he was sure of was that peace brought prosperity, and prosperity brought profits. The legal front businesses for the ABB were making more money than the illegal ones now. Not being stupid, Li could see the eventual writing on the wall, and for as long as the legal continued to make money for the gang, they would focus on that. Which included setting up an actual, legal security company to take over what the protection racket used to do.

His walking had brought him to the gate of the old shrine. It had lain abandoned since the last priest had died of old age, and no one from his family -- or anyone else -- wanted to take his place. The elders brought their offerings here, but even that waned until the shrine was fully abandoned. Still, it was the one place all the factions that made up the ABB could agree should be left in peace. Lung himself had locked the gate to keep unwanted parties out. After some Merchants had tried to break in, Lung had made a spectacular example of them and left them burning outside the former gang's base. Not even the Empire had bothered the shrine since then.

He stopped and took a second look at the entrance. The wrought iron gate was open, and the steps leading up to the shrine were clean.

That was not how it appeared the last time he'd inspected the property.

Frowning, he began walking up the path into the shrine proper, making note of everything that was different from his last inspection. There were no weeds growing through the cracks in the stone, and the stones were leveled and washed. Dead branches and intrusive plants had been removed, leaving the ground under the trees clear. The first tori had a fresh coat of vermillion paint on it. And he could hear sounds from the shrine itself. The sounds of swordplay.

Li was no swordsman, his skills were in other martial arts, but he'd heard enough from those who practiced and taught those skills to those who were willing to learn them and found worthy by those teaching to learn those skills. He knew of no teachers on the East Coast who were teaching how to use the no-dachi.

He paused at the last gate, watching.

A man and a woman were in the courtyard of the shrine. The man was bare chested, wearing a pair of pants belted at the waist and sandals on his feet. The sword he was wielding was enormous, requiring both hands to control. Li doubted he could pick the blade up himself, since he was nowhere near as muscular as the man.

His partner was grace and speed to his power. She had her hair pulled back into a ponytail, and wearing an outfit similar to what many women wore while practicing their tai-chi. Hers only differed in the fact she had a partial breastplate over her breasts. She had on a pair of lightweight shoes. In one hand she had a long, slim sword and a buckler in the off hand. She wore bracers on both forearms, but only had something protecting the back of her sword hand.

He watched as they exchanged a series of blows before the man noticed he was there. "Sister," he said in a voice that was the kind that would carry clearly over the din of battle, "we have a visitor." His massive two-handed sword he placed on a rack nearby.

"I was wondering when you'd notice him," she said with a smirk.

"Point." The man was wiping the sweat off his hands. "So, Li Xiao, what can we help you with?"

Something about these two made him cautious. He would use respectful and polite language, and hope they wouldn't take offense. "You pardon," he said with a polite bow, "but normally this place is kept locked, to keep thieves from desecrating or making off with anything from the shrine. One of my tasks is to check on this place from time to time, to make sure that it is undisturbed." He paused for a moment before continuing. "And I am apparently at a loss; you know my name, but I do not know yours."

"You may call me Fu Xi," the man said with a grin.

"And I am Nu Wa," the woman said, also with a grin.

Fu Xi gave a hearty laugh as he watched Li Xiao's reaction to the names. "I like him, he is made of sterner stuff than most!""

"My great-grandfather taught me the old myths and legends," Li admitted. "That the old tales have come to life and walk among men once again is less surprising than you might think these days."

"Indeed," Nu Wa added. "Things are changing, Li Xiao. For good or ill remains to be seen. We know of your duty to make sure this place remains undisturbed. We were invited here by a friend," and Nu Wa chuckled, "who is standing behind you."

Li Xiao turned around to find himself nose to muzzle with the largest white wolf he'd ever seen.

"Woof." And with that, the wolf gave him an affectionate lick.

Danny looked out over the bay from his office in the DWA administration building. It wasn't a spectacular view, since it was still cluttered with rusted and decaying ships, but there were far fewer of those around now. Those girls who ran those salvage and repair ships were making short work out of most of those hulls, and stockpiling what materials they weren't themselves using.

"Danny," Maude, his secretary, called, "We've got your two o'clock appointment here."

"Go ahead, send them in," he replied. He got up and stepped around the desk to meet them as they walked in.

"Lisa Wilbourne, Fortress Construction," Lisa said as she shook Danny's hand.

"Danny Hebert. What can the DWU do for you today?" He took his seat after Lisa had taken hers.

"We're looking to purchase some of your salvaged steel for a project, and was curious if it could be formed into the shapes required here before being transported," Lisa asked, "or at the construction site itself."

"One moment," Danny said, keying the intercom. "Maude, could you see if Dale is available?"

"I can hear her in the breakroom, Danny. I'll send her over."

"Thanks, Maude." He returned his attention to Lisa. "Dale is the one in charge of the salvage operation and can answer those questions. As far as transport goes, we're limited by the condition of the roads and the narrower streets."

"I suspect my client will find that something of an unusual challenge to overcome," Lisa said with a grin.

The mental model from HMS Springdale walked into the office. "You wanted to see me, Danny?" She had changed out of her working clothes and was wearing the summer uniform of a female Royal Navy officer.

"Miss Wilbourne has a few questions for you," Danny replied. He leaned back in his chair as the interrogation began, adding in a few comments of his own about local issues. The project sounded interesting.

"I feel like I'm missing something," Taylor said, looking around.

Dennis held out a straw.

"Ah, thank you."

"No problem."

A post has been, well, posted.

Editing credit to McClaw @ CTC.

Fleet week begins, Shipgirl and Singer shenanigans commence.

Off to post this week's CTC wordz™.

Yay! Good doG is here! Can't wait to see the Shenanigans (needs to be capitalized for emphasis) Sunny gets up to. While She won't be hanging around Taylor in all likeliness, it'll very likely be fun to see it (the Shenanigans, I mean).

I'm interested that Best doG showed up with Isuzami and Isuzagi (spellings?) (at leat i think that's meant to be them) as i'm pretty sure i read somewhere they were not on best terms.

Has Li Xiao ever seen any of Rachel Lindt's embiggened dogs? They are, shall we say, startlingly large, and if Sunny is choosing to be larger... :)

So this is a slightly less limited version of Okami and not the Good doG version because it's acknowledged she's not just a "large dog" and is an actual wolf in person and not just after the fact when the Stranger effect wears off.

... I really need to go back and re-read Constellations and read the newest chapter. Or chapters. I'm not sure how far behind I am but I'm at least one off... .

Thanks for the chapter!

That's not Okami in this story. That's a goddess cosplaying because she finds it amusing.

Izanagi and Izanami, but yeah. At the very least, Ammy is probably ambivalent toward Izanagi at best, seeing as he is her parent(the birth of the Big Three of Japanese Mythology is just plain weird) and never did anything overtly offensive to her. Izanami on the other hand would probably get a colder shoulder, given Izanami's oath to kill 1000 humans every day.
