The Lady may be an alternate of Missy, but since they share a scar, they did not diverge before that point in time, and the "divergence" may not have happened yet.

Ergo, Missy Might end up becoming The Lady of Pain in her future...

*blinks*

Hold up.

Is this about to become a Slayers crossover?

Latest CTC post had an appearance by Luna Inverse, because apparently she is one of the Endbringers.

I seem to recall a mention of the Lady of Pain being able to kick the keister of OVERPOWERS (at least while in Sigil)
The question becomes, did Lady of Pain!Vista gain something that gave her Overpower killing abilities, or does she actually have that much potential power?

I doubt the Lady of Pain NEEDS to kick Overpower ass, as unlike the Powers in general (Greater Gods and their Pantheons) the Overpowers are TRYING to keep Reality TOGETHER. Since she guards Sigil, and that serves as a Omniversal keystone, the Overpowers would leave her be.

Hmmm....Can obliterate Gods....HATES worship to the point of VERY messy object lessons....

Are we sure she's NOT an Overpower, just one playing at being a unique Anomaly?

Yes.

Or, to put it another way, imagine if Missy wasn't Manton Limited, and decided to warp space so your heart was in the palm of her hand. Literally.

Next, recall that one of the semi-common results of a Second Trigger is the lifting of the Manton Limit, with Narwhale as a canon example.

Now, just imagine if Missy has another Really Bad Day...

The trouble there is Vista's power is not hers. It belongs to a shard. So this is a Missy that got true power. Power internal to herself, given that if the Lady was working by a link to something else… well, enough attempts have been made on Sigil that would have been noticed by now.

So perhaps a situation like the Titans in Ward… only Missy won the resulting mental struggle very, very thoroughly.

Speculation is fun, but half the point of the Lady of Pain is her mystery.

Nobody knows.

How strong she is, what her goals are, what her origin is, nodda.

She's got no stats, if your players pick a fight you just narrate an amusing and humiliating defeat. The rules for fighting her are 'you lose'.

She's not something you learn how to beat or manipulate. She's a cosmological constant. Gods aren't just very polite, they'd rather be anywhere else. She's there, and you don't fuck with that.

You can't guess, she's a narrative force. She does and can do whatever is necessary for the story. Even moreso than Contessa, PtV has operating rules, the Lady of Pain does not.

So, is The Captain's Table in Brockton Bay also known for grilled lamb sandwiches?

Is this about to become a Slayers crossover?

Technically that's possible. When you have somewhere like Sigil, which by its very nature touches on and has access to a much vaster multiverse than most places, you can expect just about anyone to show up for conceivably any reason.

And the Cross Time Cafe thread reveals something that might make things difficult for our heroes.

Lina Inverse, the Queen of Collateral Damage, is one of the Endbringers.

spoilered for spoilery reasons.
Meh, there's 17 of them inactive. Wouldn't surprise me if Lina and Megumin are busy collaborating with each other over EndbringerChat on how to get maximum damage from minimum output while they're taking some well deserved time off. Both of them are likely giving Benny pointers.

That's gonna be kind of difficult, considering that Stabbypuppy isn't just dead, but there's not even much left of his corpse.

As somebody who's done the high level villain thing, I have two points for you.

1. True Resurrection doesn't require a body, and only requires the target not be dead for more than 10 years per caster level. (170 years at minimum)

2. You know the line 'if you get killed I'll bring you back and kill you myself'? It's absolutely as satisfying as you think it is.

Counterpoint to point two: the one that you're targeting has to accept being resurrected by the caster, and they learn the identity of the caster as part of the spell. At least in 3.5e.

I know the soul has to be willing to return, but I don't recall an ability to know who's bringing them back.

That's raise dead, but True Res just says 'as raise dead except', so the rules we're looking for are there.

Wait, she the what? Holy crap...

So on one hand I now have concerns for what happens to her fashion sense that she thinks a throne of swords is not too edgy to have, but I also want to know how the hell she ended up a probably-immortal god-queen who had to command everyone to stop worshipping her. And on the third hand that's a very tasty powerup (what do you mean I can't count?).

Although given her control of space, if it were anyone, it would make sense that it's her.

You'd think someone would come up with a work around to that. Plenty of people be needing the dead back in a functioning body. Say, aren't there spells that Raise Dead as Undead and plug the original soul back into the Undead Body? Good enough if you just want to kill someone who is already dead.

An odd thought occurred to me.

What if the Lady became who she is by compressing the solar system her Shard exists in down to the size of a marble and hid it inside her own body to internalize her power?

Further, what if her "Blades" theme came about because Hookwolf's shard is also in that system, and it remembers the part she played in it's last host's death? In essence, she would have both the unlimited version of her Space Warping power and at least a limited version of Hookwolf's abilities...

"Pain" seems to be a very apt title for this Lady, would you not agree?

Wait. Dont promote any religeous worship? But, Im pretty sure that Sigil has an entire district of temples and stuff. And if im remembering THAT wrong i DO know that it has many temples to many many gods. Does that mean this is a different Sigil? Man...regular Sigil is bad enough..that place is bloody terrifying. If this one is a completely different one then i wonder at the level of terror this one could inspire

I think that means no proselytizing, aka trying to convert people to your religion, not no worship.
