This does make me wonder- is there not!Christianity in this world?
How does world-wide religions look like in PoC? Any not!Christanity? Is Jeremy Christopher the savior of mankind?
We do know there are churches, but... is it a mirror to irl history, or were our gardens of faith pollinated by plenty of butterflies?
Religion may be more important here, since angels and gods may be a real thing.
Okay, this is slightly complicated but the highlights are:
-not!Christianity was founded by a Khemetri slave-born prophet of some sort.
--Subsequently not!Romans adopted it into its primary form, conveniently redacting the anti-slavery/humility/anti-greed messages from their holy book for social control purposes.
---When Ymaryn went "halping", we sent them copies of First Edition bibles. Along with martial arts trained philosophers to perform comparative studies. This was very heartwarming and killed enough people with the Protestanism equivalent to be an identifiable archeological strata later on.
-not!Islam was never as antagonistic to not!Christianity as in OTL, because the commandment to "respect the Peoples of the Book" is
way easier to obey when the Crusades did not happen because the Old Ymaryn Empire was in the way.
--not!Islam would likely have more not!Egyptian elements incorporated rather than the Arabic elements it did in OTL because the Old Ymaryn Empire was sitting on the Arabics.
-We don't know what happened with the not!Jews, but the Ymaryn expatriates occupied a similar role...though they still HAD a state backing them and thus the moneylending backlashes probably didn't fall as hard as it did in OTL(a fair chunk of the Jewish stigma was aggravated by lending money to kings[since Christians were not allowed to practice usury] and then daring to ask for timely payment, making it convenient for kings to chase their debtors out of the country on some premise).
-We don't know what happened with the not!Norse, but they got Iron and Writing early(as in, while they were tribals) from our broken off trade post's Ironworks and Library, and may be still hanging around as a significant local faith in not!Scandinavia since that made them a lot less vulnerable to missionaries than the OTL. Certainly our Great Library would have collected whatever religious works they may have produced at some point given our trade connection. If only to smug at them.
-We don't know what happened with the Irish faith, but nothing much should have changed from our direct influence. So its probably gone. Probably.
-The Olympians were still ground zero of not!Christianity's birth. Probably same as OTL, though.
-The not!Egyptians fell when Greater Khem did. The breakup of the Greater Khemetri Empire did a lot of damage to the God-King's legitimacy...and then not!Islam landed in the ruins.
-The OYE supported a lot of religious cross-pollination, as its open borders, acceptance of a variety of religions, harsh views on infighting within its borders and being the center of trade for a long time allowed missionaries of every european and middle eastern faith to mix freely and hammered anyone who started shit.
--Incidentally while Mythladism(sp?) is much closer to Zorasterian beliefs, its a convenient theological fiction to treat them as People of the Book. Even if its mostly because they were the People of the Iron and later People of the Cannon.
--The ancient practice of the Argument of the Stick(formalized martial arts augmented debates, though the modern form is more a performance art/dance) was a lot more common in this timeline, along with Sketch high speed poetry. Religious debates tended to include some kung-fu rap battles.
