Mmm, if International Politics wins I can definitely see the Haddyth's role being redefined to be somewhat of a parody of the President of the U.S. Taking charge in war and foreign matters whilst Parliament deals with Domestic issues.
I can't say I actually dislike this, though. Foreign Affairs is a notoriously sticky and fickle thing that I'd rather not have party politics interfering in.

Well, theres a reason for that!
The Parties are great at domestic issues, though there may be issues with minorities being ignored or exploited to meet the demands of the majority, they handle domestic issues very well.

But a populist platform is inherently xenophobic to some extent, and the nature of state diplomacy is such that a singular and distinctive 'face' of the nation is vastly more effective than a hundred meetings between bureaucrats.
The public wants speeches, handshakes and Important Signings.

Theres also a secondary element of consistency, since elected heads of state can and do swerve alarmingly on their international stance, which makes maintaining long term relations difficult and often unreliable. This would normalize eventually as international treaties and organizations get figured out, but until then, a long term head of state makes things more trustworthy.
Though this is of a lesser issue since we have an interdimensional hivemind setting international policy.

[X] [Security] 1 PW - Improve Security funding (-3 temp SoL, +1 Espionage)

We are currently at Bonds 8.
An extra +3 Bonds takes us to Bonds 11.
NOT Bonds 14.

Unless I'm missing something.
It is +6 bonds, since paying for the security upgrade is with bonds + taking out bonds.

@Xon
I would suggest we PT Hung in place if further bonds in "furnaces with happiness." The -3 temp trust will recover on it's own. The bonds will not. The PT also helps the Hung out. Two birds, one stone, less risk over all.
The problem is with this plan need the +3 Temp SoL, and PT only gives +2 temp SoL

Not perfect, but much better than I feared would be winning, considering everyone thinking about dumping diplomacy for development, whereas we should really have the parliament do most domestic development whilst the King does foreign affairs...

That said, I think if we do Bonds here, it means we can't do it anymore without paying off the ones we already have.

Diplo turn isn't the worst path forward and it allows us to start using BEN once we iterate to 11(10) Trust. We'll probably need to Subsidies Industries to make up for missing Temp IC, but that's no big deal.

Considering the state of politics IRL these days (not singling any particular country out because a lot seem to have this problem these days) I have to say I'd much rather take the everyday idiocies of party politics compared to the harm that a single empowered executive can cause. It's too easy for strongmen to use their power to consolidate it into a dictatorship. Power should be distributed as much as possible even at the cost of efficiency. Everyone likes a strong, swift-acting state until some asshole gets their hands on the position.

Considering we lead despite how much time passes, that is something we have little to worry about.

Still, AN already decided this world plays by their rules and that is Democracy.

Heroic leaders have taken over turns in the past. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a particularly inept or vile one could similarly hijack our actions, or at least constrain them significantly and force unpleasant choices.

I actually think we've been fairly lucky so far in that AN hasn't given us a single Caligula-like ruler in either quest. I actually think he's going too easy on us there.
