My instinct is that it's Horra, because I don't think the Enemy keeps up a high tempo of operations like that. If Old Power-Miser thought we were important enough to be worth harassing every few months, on top of all the many other things that get his attention, then he'd have hit us harder the first time.

Yep, we did our Due Diligence and changed our route when it mattered, and they failed to react fast enough to do anything about it.

Oh! Since we can experiment with Alloys I want to see if Standstill and Gale do anything. Still Air or Doldrums or Storm's-Eye or something doesn't seem as impossible as a Fire/Standstill combo and could maybe be used for some interesting stuff, depending...

Ope, fixing

and fixed

Sweet. Can we get that additional info on the distinctions between Gale Spear and Cutting Wind? What kind of damage are we talking about and what else do they do? With someone right there to ask and demonstrate we should be able to actually get a lot more on those.

I think Cutting Wind is something that gets easily roflstomped by armor or other defenses, but if it can do raw Endurance Damage, it can probably do a lot of it.

Kind of the opposite of our new Flashfire Cleave.

That's totally plausible (and might mean we should learn it specifically to enable a combo between the two)...but I feel like we shouldn't need to speculate? We have a guy right there who can both demonstrate and describe the exact differences.

Gale Spear is a long range precision move. It hits at 4 Damage and is reasonably quick. The downside is that it isn't aoe at all. Very precision instrument.

Cutting Wind is a short-to-medium range move to flies in a crescent of force. It hits at 1 Damage and would be the fastest move in your arsenal. While its damage is lackluster, its secondary effect is that it can deny most types of incoming ranged attacks — though not perfectly. Very useful for stripping things like Reinforce-Shield or for destroying Shields.

Awesome. I think we want Gale Spear then, at the moment. Cutting Wind is also good, but we have other stuff to fill those roles...a long range precision attack for 4 damage? That's a thing we lack, and in an element we can use on people with fire resistance to boot.

Gale Spear could be useful then as our "Ranged Non-Fire Damage option". Especially since we're not going to have any issues picking up Firestorm for AoE work either.

Hallr had 'All the Fire Hugareida', is Emberwind close enough that he picked that up at some point? If so, does he have any recommendations of what could be useful Tricks in there?

Are any hugareida/alloys we have access to right now compatible with Standstill?

'I rarely utilized Emberwind, but I was partial towards Sparkbomb. What it amounts to is a small spark carried by a gust of wind that detonates at your leisure.'

One thing I see is that with the new wind options, we have non-fire ranged picks... which means that we can maybe start thinkign abotu swapping all of our shapeshift slots over to +range damage rather than +melee damage.

Like, 1 isn't all that much... but hone adds another, and then we get as many shapeshift slots as we want to spend to crank it up further.

@Imperial Fister - would he be able to tell us about rough orthstirr costs for each of the two options?

Haha, that needs Lightning, huh?

Actually, come to think of it, if he did use Lightning, does he have any idea of what level you need to be at to have a decent shot at initiating into it?

EDIT: Oh wait, that's a specific Trick in Emberwind? Not a separate Alloy? Good to know! That sounds pretty powerful!

I think that's just his favorite Emberwind trick. Really looking forward to getting Kindlespinner perfected, since being able to spam AoE all day should be really useful against even small groups.

So...almost literally D&D Fireball as a Trick. Yeah, that tracks.

Even then, swapping out really wrecks our ability to do Basic Attack Spam on hard targets (dropping our possible basic attack damage from 4 to 3), which has been mentioned repeatedly by the QM as a really good tactic.

Hugareida attacks, and indeed any not involving a weapon, cannot be Honed.

While it is true that Standstill doesn't tend to play well with Alloying, I think our best bet for a Standstill Alloy would be alloying it with Forgefire, as after a forge has gone still, you are theoretically left with Iron.

Hmm, so, Spark-Bomb, Gale Spear, and maybe a Forgefire Trick or two depending on how that works?

Also, since Firestorm's in reach, I wonder if there's a good Firestorm Trick we could grab off of Blackhand too, or is Firestorm a bit too Orthstirr Hungry to be a good choice for us right now?
