I'm going to need a Composure check, please (17 dice). Calm charges are not an option here.

Alright, I'll give it a shot.

EDIT: And 7 successes, that's not a great roll on this many dice, but it's worth bearing in mind that it's actually average-ish even for someone with Hugr 7 and Composure 4 or otherwise generally calm.

Indeed, rolling less than 11 successes would be average for anything at 16 dice or less.
DeadmanwalkingXI threw 12 6-faced dice. Reason: Composure Total: 36
2 2 4 4 4 4 1 1 2 2 4 4 4 4 2 2 2 2 2 2 3 3 6 6
DeadmanwalkingXI threw 5 6-faced dice. Reason: Composure Total: 19
4 4 3 3 3 3 3 3 6 6

I'll add Reward Dice, all of what I have right now.

EDIT: Add 6 successes to that.
Alectai threw 4 6-faced dice. Reason: This feels important. Total: 19

no! Solrun!

someone gotta make a lament for her. hopefully someone with more skill in it then me but Ill do it if I have to.

anyway, that was Halla last mentor figure(well except for Blackhand, but we are stuck with him till death and mostly likely beyond).
she is becoming her own figure. its kinda fitting, given her growth. she is still far from Steinnar's prowess, but is closing in on his orthstirr, stoker state mastery, and stats. not including Odr stuff

Alright, finished plotting everything out. We'll see if I get this done today or tomorrow, but we shall see.

For those who may be concerned, this isn't a symptom of me burning out or anything. This is actually just a consequence of me taking more time and focusing on the actual writing rather than simply getting updates out.

In the discord we talked about Iceland at length today. Big important points;

The first settlement of Iceland will begin during our second generation. We will have the ability to join those settlements, and help tame the untamed wilderness of critters and monsters that is Iceland.

There is enough story involved in this that IF would rather it be an Iceland Or Constantinople life; not a Constantinople and then Iceland life.

Iceland is full of critters that we could not even imagine and will be really cool.

Iceland did not, irl, have Jarls or Kings, and instead had Godis, who were democratically elected leaders of men with the job of representing their people in court, gathering men to defend their people, and similar, but could be replaced by the will of the people. People could also freely move to be under another Godis without being able to be punished for it.

The Iceland info has gotten me, personally, really interested in Hallbjorn Saga as our NQ2. He's a leader, a builder, and a socialite. Having him join in the founding of the new society that is Iceland would be really cool, and the dangers of Wilderness means despite lacking something like Wanderlust, we would be forced to adventure frequently.

With Iceland being time limited to beginning, it feels like being on the first wave would be the best thing to do, if we wanna do it. It'd be a huge adventure, a big shift in tone, and a journey far away from home - and a chance to explore new mysteries and what it means for Norse and Norse culture.

I know a lot of people are extremely set on the Varangian guard, they wanna become cool as heck like Steinnar. But discovering new things is... also really cool. And we might be able to steer the Norse society on Iceland towards better things, if that's a goal we want.

Iceland was founded as a rejection of things on the mainland. Whose to say we couldn't make it even more of a rejection. No thralls, no Ergi maybe. Perhaps not instantly, but if we are one of the first? One of the founders? One of the most talented and trusted amongst them?

It's at least a tempting option.

I am absolutely okay with this, i already said way back in the thread that i liked the idea of settling Iceland. And while i am curious abaout Costantinople, i like Iceland more.

I am not sure abaout Hallbjorn begin the one to do it. I mean, it sounds like he would probably be the more fitting for the job. But i still personaly like Sigurdr or Steinulfr more.

Steinulfr is a valid choice (and where I'm likely leaning at the moment, or Asveig of course, one of the twins), but Sigurdr isn't good for Iceland because he needs to travel. A lot. He won't be staying there and that's...problematic. The Varangian option works well for him because it's far away, and the Varangians travel, but the Iceland option is a terrible match for him.

Basically, Hallbjorn only works for Iceland, not the Varangians and Sigurdr only works for the Varangians, not Iceland. The twins work well for either, at least potentially.

given the veil of Iceland, I feel like one of the twins might be better for the Iceland option. they lean more into the seer stuff and fit it better then Hallbjorn

well, if so what about Evyor? not sure she fits Iceland, but if we go Varangian she can work pretty well I think

Eyvor's possible, though IMO, her down sides are significantly more of an issue than Sigurdr or the twins, and unlike Hallbjorn she doesn't have really specific advantages to boost her in the rankings (Hallbjorn is in the running because he has really ideal leadership stuff). She's honestly probably just as good for Iceland as for the Varangian option, I just think there are better choices for both.

I prefet Steinulfr just for the sake of changing things, since we already played a female character.

Honestly, the thing I don't like about Iceland is that it effectively all but removes all of Halla's work from consideration, because going there and leaving there are both epic adventures in their own right, which means we're basically cut off from all the connections and NPCs we've made up until now.

A Fresh Start is good and bad, and Halla's done a lot of work so far. Broadly wiping the board clean sits poorly with me.

My preference would be going with Steinulfr, following/dragging along Hallbjorn to Iceland. Being part of a new settlement is cool, but I'm not sure I want to actually play JarlQuest AKA Viking Management Simulator Quest. Plus we like fighting as a playerbase, and Steinulfr is better for that. Iceland also has much more potential for new discoveries, and even has a tie-in to Halla glimpsing past Iceland's magical veil.. Also honestly fighting people that aren't turbo assholes doesn't feel great. And most people aren't turbo assholes.

Hallbjorn is perfect for the settling because he is a friendly leader with the trait to be one of the best people at defending others in combat, alongside a Fyljga that is built to help with settlement building. His personality traits also includes animal lover, and that's a fun one when dealing with monster animals. I also don't think it would turn into Jarlquest, at least not quickly - it's been confirmed that it would be a fight for survival, clawing to make our mark and not have people die around us. We would not be able to avoid a struggle.

His downside for fighting is solvable in multiple ways, since he doesn't dislike fights, he dislikes blood soaking battles. Which means he's a great choice for going hard on Glima and Fang or going for a ranged build and making an archer. He's also a natural poet who would probably be a great choice for pursuing Skald stuff for battles. Twist: Bloodless Blade or something.

Steinulfr or Asveig would be a cool choice from the perspective of mystical shit, of course. They're built to be weird Seers from the beginning, and have magical bullshit pouring from their cores. They also have no downsides as far as we know (I don't believe their shadowy shrouds or moon eyes have been explained in full though).

If we choose either, my preference is actually neither Varangian nor Iceland, but instead becoming Elf-Friends and pursuing Norse mystical realms to explore and learn from.

Edit: Eyvor has her own stuff that makes her a good choice for basically whatever. She is the most battle focused of our character options that we will take (sorry Asgeirr, no one wants you...) and thst could be a boon as a Varangian or a Iceland settler, but she would probably never be a leader of men there in the same way.

However she does have Prosperous, she's apparently a natural born and lucky merchant. That could be a boon in basically any life, and she would probably make a great wife to a leadership type.
