Huh. I wonder if what they do can't predict enemy actions but can come up with counterplays once they see them. If so, we want to change up our tactics a lot rather than repeat things...
At least for me, I just wanted to play with new mechanics (especially with relatively low stakes). I have total faith your version would've been cool, but it kinda definitionally wouldn't have let us do that.

It is still a success, and we have Tricks to get his strong and weak suits and, theoretically, how many dice he's investing. But yeah, our ideas of what he's actually doing are gonna be ambiguous.

An empty field of shin-length grass tickles at your legs as you face off against your momentary foe. The sun casts streaks of orange, gold, and pink across the sky as the horizon draws it in for a kiss-filled embrace. Its warm love brushes against both your and Kalman's skin as you lock gazes with the other.
Kalman bounces on the balls of his feet as he waits with legs lightly bent and set at a vaguely right angle. His right hand is hidden behind his back while his left carries his saber above his head, the blade facing the multi-hued sky. The sword's gentle curve leads toward the sharp slope of a peak, which points toward the setting sun.
The Magyar warrior is dressed in nothing but his traveling robe and is armed with naught but his saber. Any armor he may have brought from his distant home must surely have been left with his bow and arrows. As your eyes travel from his unarmored form to your gleaming mail, you suddenly feel more than a little self-conscious about how you must look to him. Where you stand encased in iron and armor, he stands bold and unafraid in the light of the setting sun.
Shadows fall across Kalman's face as he regards you with a fierce, calculating eye. What thoughts lie behind those hazel eyes will forever remain a mystery, for his voice gives nothing away. What is clear, though, is that this will be a fight most interesting.
The reason most primary for why, exactly, you think that is that Kalman is skilled with the sword and, more importantly, is well-practiced in its use. Much like Gabriel, Kalman holds his weapon with a casual familiarity that can only be obtained through constant and continuous practice. Such fluidity is a rare sight in the lands of the Norse, for few will train like a Knight or, as it so seems, a Magyar.
Second to that is that the stance he rests in feels studied, like he'd been taught it rather than if it was something he'd developed on his own. You're not certain exactly why it feels this way—something about the posture, foot positioning, and all the rest coming together to tickle something in your brain—but it's clear that he's well-read on the subject of swordplay.
His greatest strengths lie in his saber, but it doesn't take a trick to tell that. Not with all the other things you've already observed and listed. He is quick and able to adapt to things on the fly, though your many myriad tricks struggle to find any flaw in his stance or in him.
With knowledge of his adaptability in mind, you struggle to find any concrete sign at the general strength of his blows. However, something tells you that he'll start off weak and then rapidly advance towards his peak. The only thing you can make out of his intended tactics is that he is going to be highly aggressive.
