Right, and that fact means that some of those things are, inevitably, not good ideas.

I'm not disputing the revelation or that we need to specialize our Fylgja. I think that's entirely correct and a great deduction on your part. I think the specific specialization of transforming it into glasses really hurts us in very specific ways that should be avoided. A specialization that maintains its ability to scout independently from us and feed us items for shield spam is absolutely possible and I'm positive glasses are not that specialization.

Ehhh, maybe I could use Reward Dice to get an idea of what we could expect to lose vs what we could expect to gain from this @Imperial Fister ? What kind of thing would that put me back for?

It's a good idea to check, but I very much doubt any object will maintain the things we've found most useful in our current Fylgja.

The fundamental thing we've actually figured out how to use our fylgja for is being in two places at once (including reality and our soulscape), and we've figured out ways to leverage that for real power (it's even the basis for our doubled crafting speed). All our cool fylgja tricks are predicated on that, and I don't think giving it up is correct.

Shard's Magic Experience Forging Sword Idea:

Step 1: Acquire these 3 Experiences:

1) The glint of a sword as it is sharpened (use one of the magic whetstones for this)
2) The sound/movement of a sword unsheathed (unsheathed really fast).
3) The scent of freshly spilled blood.

Step 2: Pick a good magical iron, preferably better than Forged Iron.

Step 3: Acquire matching bone ash (Recommended: Wolf Bone Ash) for weapon (preferably a sword). Use in forging.

Step 4: While forging, sing these experiences into spell in a Seidr format, weaving it into the sword. 'Cast' the spell into the sword.

Step 5: Make sure to add Odr into both the spell and the sword itself. Aim for the 3/9/27 Breakpoints.

Step 6: Add matching runes. Suggested:

1st Side: "Flash fly, flense flesh./Swift slice surge swung./Before edge, become apart/Through all as though air." (Ljóðaháttr; Intention: +Speed/Initiative, +Damage)
2nd Side: (Probably copy the damage repair runes.)

Step 7: Make sure to think about how awesome the weapon will be when you've made it while doing steps 3-5.

Step 8: If Realizing, ensure decorations match the theme!

Step 9: Bask in the glory of the weapon now that it's done

I'm not sure who we would forge this for but I like the idea and hope we do it.

I'm not sure we need a new sword personally...we could see about doing one for a retainer or do a sax with the same effect instead (though that would replace Ashen Kiss). If we are doing it for us it'll need to wait a few turns while we get our new retainers set up.

But I see nothing wrong with trying something like that in principle (though likely not Realized).

I like us having a giant owl in our soul who hangs out. I think us having glasses in our soul instead would be lame as heck. I do sort of wish that our owl was cooler, but I think we have not reallt focused much on using it as a cool thing, it is instead a supplemental part of the build.

We have pretty clearly gone Hugr > Hamr > Fylgja as stat priorities and I don't think that's bad. There's always room to make a Fylgja focused character later.

I think Alectai's right that there's definitely a way to commit and power up our Fylgja, I just think committing to our current Giant Adorable Owl is probably better than doing so to a pair of glasses. There may also be some third option, of course, but of the two...

We've built up our owl as a part of Halla's character for 1700 pages now, I think it would be a bit odd to suddenly not have an owl.

However, there might be some halfway house possible here? A pair of glasses or suit of armour which can transform into our owl and fly by our side is something I wouldn't mind at all.

My thoughts on what to do boat wise: we should spend as much time at sea as humanly possible without hitting the next turn.

Not only because it's the best way to gain xp.

But because it let's us talk to our crew and get to know people better, potentially recruit people, and make connections.

It also potentially leads to cool battles that have nice rewards.

And when we roll well at silver tongue we are given great gifts and even stat bonuses.

Being on a boat is awesome. Our next character should never leave their ship. No need for a farm, just ship every day.

Personally I agree with all of this.

Just a note... but isn't Fyjgla 10 still far?

And while its nice to have info about what we can do with it beforehand... i would like to see the actual options for that.

Just noting this here, the shield swap is something ANY fylgja can do, not an owl exclusive. Hall's has a blinkdog, after all.

While Binding it with the Nordic Plate is interesting, i think that would be the same as the fylgjaskin option Halr had. Which would boost the shield/weapon swap trick, i assume, not to mention the extra armor... but i don't really like it, for Halla at least.
The glasses idea is interesting as well, would probably boost perception, yeah... but i think this would be either a variant or just something the fjlgjaskin would do anyways.

I just don't want our fyjgla to lose its freedom because that would take away its main perk, The Owl Gatcha. this is a wonderful thing. but if the fylgja is fixed as an armor/skin, it can not leave our side.

Now, the smithing... that, i could see survive if its fixed in any form, but it would probably transform into a big bonus, instead of an extra action if we go the fylgjaskin path, what with it not being able to leave us.

As for making it into an even bigger owl... while we know it could be done what with Barki Bertholdsson serving under Folkmarr, i think its current person size is more than enough.

Then, there is the skill enhancer/synergizer like Steinarr did with his rockhound.

TL,DR: While the shield swap is nice, its not revelant for fylgja development choices so log as our fylgja can access our soul.
The main concert is if we turn it into:
1) An even bigger owl, so it can be used as transport, ala Barki express.
2) fyjglaskin as Halr show us, losing its freedom for extra protection (and probably more direct access for its powers).
3) enhance a skill like Steinarr did.
4) Whatever other options exist.

So far, only those three were shown, i think. The spying through the fyjgla can be done by any type, even without specialization, so not ant specific.

And while its nice to have info about what we can do with it beforehand... i would like to see the actual options for that.

I mean, we hit Fylgja 9 before we get home, and then Fylgja 10 in 3-4 more turns if we focus on it, which we likely will. So...yeah, it's a little bit off, but not all that far.

Just noting this here, the shield swap is something ANY fylgja can do, not an owl exclusive. Hall's has a blinkdog, after all.

So, as you note, the shield swap we came up with can be done by any animal fylgja that is waiting in your soulscape if you have an armory pocket. I was specifically objecting to making our fylgja an object, as if you are wearing your fylgja as an object on your face? It wouldn't work.

Hal's shield swap method is actually a Warband Secret and doesn't work the same way as ours at all. Ours was inspired by him, but operates by a completely different mechanism.

Which is not to disagree, I think we're mostly on the same page, just clarifying my point and why I brought it up.

Now, the smithing... that, i could see survive if its fixed in any form, but it would probably transform into a big bonus, instead of an extra action if we go the fylgjaskin path, what with it not being able to leave us.

Note that we're already almost assured to get to Wondrous (specifically, our odds of it are something over 94% even without Odr). Swapping an extra action for a static bonus would be a really terrible trade for us mechanically.

I'll just tell you straight up that it's not as strict as you think it is

0~0~0

I'll call voting in an hour

I mean, I'm not the one saying it's strict here, I'm just asking to get an idea of what it is because it's being dismissed because "Oh we'll lose our base functionality if we go this way and that just won't do"

It doesn't even preclude us getting a ship in our soul to go out raiding on, in fact. Though that would involve, I believe, another Skill Trick if we were gonna make it ourselves.

Walking back to this: I think it's pretty funny that we could theoretically pick up shipbuilding and be amazing at it in just a few days at sea. Like if we decided 'you know, let's exploit the hadingwood and make our own ships' we could just... dedicate a week at sea to learning shipwright skills and tricks and suddenly be an expert.

I think it makes more narrative sense if our first experience forged sword stays in our family as part of legacy. We can maybe make it for Evyor?

I'm going to need a Silver-Tongue roll, please, as well as a Bad Luck roll (d100) and a Wildcraft roll (for the butchering of the whale)

Since no one else is doing it, I'll do another roll.

So 13 successes on Silver Tongue if we go with Osha's, or 20 if we went with KittyEmpress, and 12 on Wildcraft. Seems fine.

...I'm not saying that Abjorn will NECESSARILY punch a would-be host whose gaze lingers on his wife for a few moments too long, but the possibility exists.

We did specifically check with Abjorn if he was okay with this.

I'll just tell you straight up that it's not as strict as you think it is

Interesting. I wonder if the commitment we're talking is thematic or something rather than purely physical...

Like, glasses and owl not being as mutually exclusive as we're thinking.

I tried my best but I was too slow by seconds. I swear I didn't even get the notification pop up for Oshha's post until after I had rolled the dice even!

So funny.
I don't mind if my Silver Tongue roll isn't used. I already rolled Bad Luck and only rolled Silver Tongue because nobody else was doing the other rolls.
