This passage looks weird to me... Even beside the "were they were".
"They're calling you Longstride"
"What were they calling me?"
"My name is X, and they're calling you Longstride"
Looks fine to me ('were they were' aside, anyway...that is an error), there are other sentences in there that make it make sense, IMO, including a leading sentence from Halla that basically asks for his name.
Like, it actually goes more like:
"They're calling you Longstride (proceeds to ramble on about other complimentary stuff)"
"Thanks Mr...? And wait, what was that first bit about what they were calling me?"
"My name is X, and they're calling you Longstride"
