Incidentally @Imperial Fister what are our relationship with our retainers new and old like now? Kurt Frogtongue after we gave him a much-wanted child, Tryggr and Trausti after we gave them some super magic weapons, plus Kare, Ingulf and Eyesteinn. Also are we getting exp from spars with them?

Given how fast the babies have been coming, I'm honestly surprised that he bothers, unless he's sleeping around, which I really doubt he is since it'd seem out of character.

I think he's giving it a break for now since our hands are already full with the six we've got.

Plus, with how Spicy life has been the past couple years.

The triplets were planned, more or less anyway, or perhaps 'assumed' is a better wording...Hallbjorn was a result of them both getting drunk at a party. There were then a few years off and then the twins were absolutely planned. Halla is still breastfeeding the twins, for the most part, and wouldn't even be expected to try for more kids for...I think another year? I'd have to check the details.

Hey Halla, do you know if there's any reason Logi Firehair uses a flat headed svida other than preference?
He probably just started using it out of vanity, which is why most things happen in Norse society

did you do the ritual? You'll have to get back to me on the other stuff, though

--[X] We are likely freeing them, the question is where they want to be dropped off (staying with us is certainly also an option), what information they will give us in exchange, and other details

So, perhaps unsurprisingly I would prefer if we removed the "likely" from this statement, since it feels kind of like using the enthrallment as leverage, which I personally dislike. It is leverage, and Halla may not share my sensibilities even though she dislikes slavery, so I appreciate I may be in the minority here.

However we might get more genuine gratitude from them if they see that we've committed to freeing them without first negotiating payment in kind, I don't know.

My impression, from what IF said is that our interactions with them will be their own vote, possibly multiple votes, presumably with our specific choices and negotiation tactics outlined in that vote. The phrasing is because I didn't think a plan vote was the place to absolutely commit us to a specific course of action in a subsequent vote.

Personally, I think we're probably freeing them pretty much immediately, but I don't think that's universally agreed and the plan vote doesn't seem the place to decide it for sure when there will in fact be a subsequent vote for precisely that kind of thing.

We may not want to go full Galadriel because it may be inconvenient to deal with the aftermath of being Helen of Hading.

It depends how IF is handling it - I wouldn't necessarily bank on multiple votes without confirmation that there will be, and there's also the question of pacing/how much time we want to spend on this.

+8d isn't actually quite that ridiculous, I don't think. It's impressive, but not truly absurd, was my impression...that said, it's probably overkill in this instance. I'll change it for now, but we really need to know if that's an actual problem.

@Imperial Fister when using shapeshifting for extra Silver-Tongue dice do you actually run the risk of being too attractive and causing problems? If so, what's the 'safe' amount of dice that don't cause that?

IF specifically said it'd be its own separate update/vote. It may only be one, but even at one, that's the time to make that decision, not now.

I would prefer a minimum of scenes on the thralls.

I think that's not the correct way to go, or at least it heavily depends on circumstances. These are people, and I don't want to gloss over them as not mattering due to their status as thralls. I also don't want to dwell on it, but one scene involving freeing them and then subsequent scenes if they are further interested in interacting with us or plot relevant seems entirely reasonable.

Fair enough!

Personally I hope that the freeing scene will feel cathartic, and I hope subsequent ones could also be good, maybe getting to know them as people a bit. But some of them may just want to go home and I think some players also want to move on from this plotline, so there's a balancing act there I suppose.

I mean, if it actually has real consequences, and it probably does like everything in the quest, then there is probably no safe amount? it seems like something that depends on the situation and people you interact with. even having no shapeshifts and just having the beautiful trait, which Halla does have, can cause problems in some situations probably

My personal hope is that freeing them is handled quickly and then we can deal with the rest of it at a pace depending on their particular preferences and whether we'll see them much going forward. The woman with kids, the scared girl, and the scholar all seem like they might decide to stick with us. Probably not all three but any one of them might do so, which would be fine. The rest probably all get dropped at home (or nearby), which would be a few days trip maybe, but that should be fine, it's likely a day or three out of the way, but that's just a few days. That probably involves a scene with dropping them off and people being grateful (for the nobles especially)...we were told Slavic hospitality was notable so that seems likely to come up.

I mean, we've been told we can get away with +2d and even people we know will have a 'Looking good, have you done something with your hair?' kind of reaction...ie: it goes under the radar. So there's definitely an amount that doesn't cause any more problems than Beautiful on its own because people won't even really notice it. The question is how far we can exceed that with strangers without provoking extreme reactions beyond what Beautiful already does...which may be anywhere from "You can't." to "Go as high as you like." and knowing where it falls is relevant.

Halla: puts too much dice in her Beauty rolls

The Enterity of the Norse Lands: Starts the local equivalent of the War of Troy

I feel like this level of beauty definitely exists. I'm less sure Halla is capable of achieving it. Given Norse number stuff, if +3 is the level where it's obvious to people who know you, then +9 might be the level where it's obviously supernatural and gonna cause problems, and we can't even hit +9 at the moment.

Can't we? I mean, probably not easily, but we have 9 shapeshifts I think? So dedicating them all we can get +18

We have 8 shapeshifting slots and they only give +1d6 Improved Attractiveness each. So +8d6 is the maximum we can achieve.

We technically also have the shapecrafting we just got done, but those are locked in as +5 Speed, and cannot be used for other things.

Being naturally pretty is worth a single +d to silver-tongue rolls, prettifying yourself is a +1.

+8d is like, 8 levels of 'being naturally pretty'.

This is not quite correct, the Beautiful quality is not a bonus die, it is a bonus success. 8d is still more than that, but more like 5-6 times more, not 8 times. Beautiful also has narrative effects, which may trump the dice bonus from shapeshifting to some degree.

Various things other than Beautiful also grant additional bonuses, such as the First Impression Trick which likewise gives +1 success largely in the form of increased attractiveness.

There's definitely a level of Improved Attractiveness that is 'supernaturally beautiful, potentially causes problems'...the question is what that level is. 2d doesn't get there, so it's above that, but it could be anywhere between 3d and 9d, or even higher. We just don't know, hence the question.

Random Gay Outsider, Immune To Halla's Charms: "So tell me, all this shit going on about your wife... There are actual Steelfathers trying to track her down and bring her in as a concubine or something. Why aren't you more worried?"

Abjorn: "Because I know something about Halla that they do not know."

Outsider: "And what's that?"

Abjorn: "That she's got a very specific Trick she's been wanting to work on since she was twelve, and has long delayed the development of. So all these warriors fighting over her, well, they have an unexpected problem."

Outsider: "But... actual Steelfathers!"

Abjorn: "Yeah, well, I don't really understand entirely why, but I've seen the look on Halla's face every time a Steelfather was mentioned ever since the wedding. I think she's got some pent-up aggression to work out. So..."

[A sound of crunching metal echoes through the Hading. A mighty, terrible roar begins, then quickly rises into ultrasonic realms beyond the audibility of normal man]

Abjorn: "Aaaand that would be Halla leveling up Nutcracker on Bjorn Brass-Balls, I'm guessing."
