I think we should soften uo the spirit a little first. Zap it with a couple of more powerful attacks and Probes, then we can chat from a position of power.

===

... Wait. Are you guys not even trying to fight the spirit at all? Are we really skipping the 'aggressive' part of aggressive diplomacy?

[X] Moderately Beat

Goal: Turn the spirit into an ally, or at least make it more cooperative
General Plan: Wear down the spirit and it's mental strength enough that it know it's beaten, then talk to it from a position of power.
Offence: One or two Probe attacks to start with, then follow up with a few Overwhelms and Pierce Stitches to break through it's initial defences.
Defence: Augment our cloak of flames with magic to rebuff the ice attacks. We've got way more firepower, we can use it.

Well... Interesting stuff.

I feel like the standstill martial art is kind of a waste though, what with us finishing Halla's story soon....
But that aside, Standstill and Stoker State Style worked like gears, right? That sounds like a good direction.

I find it extremely funny that the spirit sword had no problems possessing the squire, but still is against even talking to us.
Now, we know the bible, but which part would be better to get it to talk, I wonder?

I feel the opposite, depending on the criteria for learning it. It might be the only Standstill-related thing we could actually pass on to the kids, and could do so in a curated way so that we only get the stuff IF is okay with our next character getting. Or maybe it's even some sort of a part of Stoker State in a weird way.

Really, I just want to know what it is and how we got it. Knowing how we got a new Style seems super relevant if only to know how future characters could duplicate that feat.

Martial art styles need an anchor though.
If we anchor it to Standstill, it means you need standstill to learn.
And IF said we will not get it on future characters, last I remember, but I do have spotty memory and he could have changed his mind as well.
Same reason I wasn't so taken with two standstill training items.

If it's about style creating, one based on charred soul sounds better, imo. We could refine it a bit every life.

As for passing something to all our kids...
Why standstill, that they are not likely to ever get, specifically, when we have so many others things to teach them?

This makes the big assumption that Standstill is the anchor for the theoretical Style. I don't think that follows, given what wound up being the case with FTB (Stoker State does not have anything to do with Ignition). If Standstill is the anchor, then sure the style is useless to future generations...but is that true? That's what I want to know, and honestly, I doubt it. Every Hugareida does not have a Martial Style to go with it, so the Martial Style must involve something else...it could still also require Standstill and thus be hard to pass on, but that's a big assumption.

But I'm not sure we can even subdue it even with a position of strength. The spirit is a fanatic zealot, I think even if we do the equivalent of holding a blade to its throat, it'll just be like "go ahead, destroy me, but I'll never cooperate with heathens!" There's a chance it will cooperate so it'll be worthwhile to try, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm seeing votes for what I assume is a plan named "Moderately Beat", but no plan vote with that name? Are these vote for Orbmorb's write-in?

Anyway, I think we need to be at least somewhat combative here, but I also like the idea of melting our way though the glacier by turning ourselves into the human torch, it sounds metal as fuck, and the suggestion to engage it in conversation and signal that we aren't here to fight. So this is my attempt at a meld of the two current plans.

[X] Plan Human Torch
-[X] We summon a vast shroud of flames, becoming a living comet of fire, hot enough to incinerate trees in seconds and turn ice to steam. We melt our way through the glacier wall like a well-strung arrow going through cheese.
-[X] If the spirit attempts to stop us with grinding glacier walls to crush our bones or gleaming icicle spears to impale us, we will rob them of their force with Standstill, and then vaporize them with vast gouts of flame. We are the eternal flame.
-[X] Try and reach out to the spirit and engage it in conversation as we progress. We're not here to hurt it or force it into anything, we just want to talk, but if it wants to start a fight, we'll win it.

IF, idk if you're waiting to do this later, but in case you've missed it, the Character Sheet for Halla needs an update. In the Overview section, from "four beautiful children" to "six children", and the Soulscape needs an update after the breakthrough. Asveig and Steinulfr also have to be added to the Reputation and Relations section.

Fixed the stuff with the kids. IF needs to do the soulscape stuff personally.

btw wth is a "well strung arrow"
A metaphor relating to an arrow that was shot well. A well-strung arrow will hit the target perfectly. I'm not really familiar with the 'arrow through cheese' part of it, though, perhaps it's a British thing? Or maybe it's just a Skippy thing?

Either way, voting is now closed

[X] You're here to have a chat, not kill the spirit! Your cloak of flames should keep you warm and melt the blizzard into a more pleasant spring melt--especially when it's been empowered your spiritual arts, chat it up on the way as you advance into its Soulscape, keep it off guard and invested in the discussion and thus too distracted to focus a great deal of attention on you.
