Thor hurled a rock into the river, effectively stopping the flow.
It's the Vimur
I thought I was being euphemistic, but Wikipedia is straight up misrepresenting here. The text is clear that Thor hurled the rock at her (Gjalp). This is after it says she was standing on both sides of the river, which is less clear, but probably means she was big enough to stand with one leg on each side. Jotuns huge.

Þá tók Þórr upp ór ánni stein mikinn ok kastaði at henni ok mælti svá: "At ósi skal á stemma."
Roughly: Then took Thor up from river stone mighty and cast at her and mouthed(said) so: "At outflow shall river [be] dammed".
(Translation is an art, not a science, here I have tried to preserve cognates like mikinn->mighty, where most translations would say "big" about the stone.)

I mean, it still works. The river was being peed in, it's the biggest of the Elinvagr, and Thor stopped it by throwing a rock. Can't expect miracles from a quick research binge!

Well Shit

Did a quick check: when we were researching the rivers the biggest one was called the vid. Do we want to use that name here?

And in that update it indicates that Thor clogged the vid with a big rock.

Riddle Duel 2
[x]Answer: the Vimur

It doesn't take you that long to puzzle it out. Looking the Jotun in the eye, you boldly and clearly give your answer, "It's the Vid, isn't it?"

Heklr gives a polite clap, "You are correct, opponent of the day."

You breathe a sigh of relief as the riddle-giver role falls to you.

What is your riddle?

AN: This will be rather interesting, given my poor track record with solving riddles

No moratorium

@Imperial Fister can we declare a specific post exempt from you getting a look at it even if we use Reward Dice? It's...logistically difficult to round up all the riddles we might want to use in one post otherwise. Which makes things a bit awkward.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean here?

I think if we use spoiler tags we can trust IF won't look. Not sure where the declaring exempt or Reward Dice come in.

Or do you mean not using spoilers? That feels like a bad idea purely because of how easy it might be to accidentally scroll past it.

I think we should start with your lawsuit one, FYI.

Yes, but you only get one post that's exempt
To be fair, you're outnumbered. You should totally use friends and family that don't participate in this thread as a sounding board if there are any such available. Totally fair.
I was totally going to anyways ;P

IF said earlier that if we burn Reward Dice for hints he gets to look at one spoiler each...which isn't a super big problem unless we have them all in one post. In which case it is.

Yes, but you only get one post that's exempt

Sweet. One per round, or will I need to go back and edit it? Either way, coming right up.

WARDED FROM QM SIGHT

So, my short list of riddles I spotted I really liked is:

#1 (by Toboe)
I devoured the hand of justice
I am chained by zero links
Silent revenge will be my end
Who am I?

#2(by Shard)
It can be anything or everything
We all know it's name and nature
Anyone can evoke it with words
Yet us here disdain what it is
What is it?

#3 (by DeadmanwalkingXI)
I can take all a man has, or grant him all he desires
I can end feuds or start them, make paupers of the rich or a rich man of a pauper
Yet men are my hands and my will, and my word is done only by them
Few want to have me yet all fear to lose me once they do
Who am I?

#4 (by Skippy)
I grow a fluffy beard but have no mouth,
No shield but stand in a phalanx with my kin,
Guarding the road of roads,
I am so weak a child can slay me,
Yet I can lift men and heavy stones,
Who am I?

#5(by Skippy)
Beginning as a foundling in the muck,
Trained in the school of hard knocks,
Plying my trade diving into the salt sea,
I can earn my weight in gold,
Yet few men wish to receive me,
Who am I?

#1:Fenrir
#2: A Lie
#3:A lawsuit
#4:A reed
#5:A sword

I'll potentially add others if people advocate them, but these seemed like the best options.

Additional Riddle Storehouse:

#6 (by TheCount)
Flys without wings,
Quicker with joy,
Slower with boredom,
But ever go forward.
What's this?
time

#7 (by TheCount)
It can be hard and it can be soft,
Either see through or not.
Can come from high or low.
Whatis it?
water

#8 (by fearsome hill)
I have a trustworthy friend
I trust it to destroy
I trust it to be greedy
I trust it to live long in places it is forgotten
I trust that it is dangerous
I trust that it will help me
Who is my trustworthy friend?

Answer: Fire

#9 (by Shard)
"This binding was forged by man to bind down man, it's form shifting as needed to man's will. It can be wielded as a weapon against those held by it, yet those bound by it refuse to slip it's shackles."

The Law

#10 (by Shard)
What is that which is born of light, yet flees from it's embrace, which is cast by men living and dead, that we seek to step out of yet in doing so we make another?
"Shadows"

(Literally and metaphorically)

#11 (by Shard)
It dies every Yule,
Yet we find it living still when the day comes,
We can't see it yet we can name it,
What is it?
Year

#12 (by Shard)
Woven every moment
All-Knowing
More Final than Fated Days
Unchanging
Herald of Glory and Shame
All-Seeing

It was there when Askr and Embla were given life,
It will be there when Ragnarok has come and gone.

We chart our path through it's tempestuous tides,
We take their words as guide to speech and deed.

What is it, I speak of?
History

#13 (by Shard)
Restless and relentless,
Repays lifedebts patient.

Gives gifts generously
Graces all Dreng's faces

Unwanted and unasked,
Unseen treads uncaring.

Clears blear to fear drear cheer.
Change comes where it ranges.

This one is done in Skaldic Poetry.
Death

#14 (by Nando)
If you share me with strangers, I grow.
I can make a fool out of you,
and a fool uses me.
Let a stranger introduce you to a sibling mine,
and they will show you a new world.
Language

#15 (by fearsome hill)
i suffer iron's ire
and it suffers mine
my mother is the mountain
and my master is man
when i am wet i ache
for something to grind

what am i?
a whetstone

I like #1, it's super thematic, but it's probably too easy...it's there if we wanna softball one, I guess.

I favor #2 for our first riddle, I think? Though I obviously also like #3 through #5 and could easily be talked around to the idea.

It should be at least as hard as this
No-legs lay on one-leg,
two-legs sat near on three-legs,
four-legs got some.

[Fish on a table,
man on a stool,
cat gets the scraps]

there is also the poetic one I made from your idea. and I had two riddles written that might be worth listing at the very least even if they aren't amazing. unless there is some good reason not to of course
I have no end and no beginning
only ever going change
any being can invoke me
yet only few have seen my truest form
(answer:a circle. it has no ending but is ever changing in direction. anyone can draw a circle but drawing it well is very hard. drawing a perfect circle is impossible but that might be beyond Halla's thinking as she didn't study geometry in depth I think)

I am life to some and death to others
and a symbol to all
in one direction I am bound
by strings of fate invoked by toil
(answer- an arrow. an arrow is a tool of hunting, neccessary to survive so life. it is death, as a weapon, obviously. it is a symbol of swiftness or determination. strings of fate are simply the string of a bow, which can take considerable strength and effort to draw(invoked by toil)
it travels in the blackest dark
beginning every march with dusk
a face unblinking, ever watching
the travel ends come the morning

this one might be a tad easy. the moon
