Well! Those are great people to have on board on our side!

On the other hand, having to fight a relative. Ugh.

Ideally, we want to send Farbjorn and Stigulf and their elites up against Serge, send Heima to go take care of the Noble (and, if he actually comes out to fight, the Priest) with a few more hardcore, like, Upper Middle people, assign Nokkvi and Vagn to go take out Louis, and some Upper Middle people to the Squire (I'm thinking Fabvir and Barki). We keep Abjorn with us, I think, for taking on our kinsmen here.

I dunno how viable actually making all that happen is, but it's the ideal and we can have people try for it.

Blame grandpa "a bed in every major settlement" Blackhand.

We shouldn't assume it's all him either. He was, like, the fourth or fifth generation of that bloodline? They weren't super prolific before him, but that doesn't mean he's the only one with the bloodline with descendants.

Does there being a kinsman on their side mean we are about to eat a chunk of Nid?

Only if we kill him. I think we try and take him alive if possible. One reason I'd like us and Abjorn both fighting him.

Could have a chat with our Kinsman.
Maybe there is a reason for this beyond him merc-ing for money/Orth.

We could try to lure them away from the mansion.
Or even challenge them to 1v1 duels. Preferably outside the area that the to-be-besieged can help them without leaving their reinforced area.

When sieging anywhere, you want to have at least twice as many men as the enemy—ideally thrice or more.
Removing this advantage.

Problem with that, he's an Odr cultivator, so chances are he's got something to body Abjorn without us getting into the fight fully ourselves.

To be clear, my advocacy is for us and Abjorn to fight him together, and our outnumbering him will allow us to win while taking him alive. Not to send Abjorn to fight him on his own.

I think you might be underestimating Abjorn, but I wouldn't risk it.

Okay, so I've basically taken our initial plan, and updated it to factor in our new allies, and stuff like the beacon. I think it's also fine to have Heima leading the strike team now - his skillset is really good for it, and now we have Stigulf and Farbjorn, we've got extra muscle on hand to deal with the knights.

[X] Plan The Element of Surprise Mk. II: This Time Even More Surprising
-[X] Sail the Wavedancer up the river straight to the castle's walls, grabbing everyone's attention, and begin a direct assault.
-[X] ...After having stealthily deposited a strike team consisting ofHeima Smiles and his eight picked wolves, who will climb up the cliff using the distraction of our frontal attack.
--[X] Heima's Insutrctions: Take pockets of the garrison by surprise, and ideally eliminate Tobias as he cowers behind his high walls, before attacking the walls from behind to support our attack. If he can stop any beacons being lit too, then that would be good. Avoid killing non-combatants or bringing the Priest into the fight if at all possible. We leave this up to Heima's judgement and experience.
-[X] Ourselves, Abjorn, Stigulf, and Farbjorn will lead the assault, remaining flexible to deal with situations as they arise, and on hand to contain any heavy hitters if needed, along with our other stronger warriors.
-[X] Ideally, the strike team attacking the walls from behind cause a collapse in the defender's morale, and and lead many to believe the castle has fallen, allowing the knights and the Norse to accept terms of honourable surrender.

Hope this looks good?

Heima's fine, however, I'd think we need to split up from Stigulf and Farbjorn. They have enough anti-Knight stuff themselves (and should indeed be assigned to that, maybe along with Vagn and Nokkvi), and we should be ready for our kinsmen, sure, but also to actually attack some Thanes. We have a bomb-boulder burning a hole in our pocket and some anti-javelin stuff. Keeping all our elites other than Heima together is not a good use of resources.

To be clear, I didn't intend for us to be all in one big gang of four, more that we're the troubleshooters who are on hand to deal with Knight or Odr Cultivator -related mishaps whenever they occur. I'll try and edit to make this more clear?

Beyond that I don't really think we can specify who is fighting who, because we don't get to decide how the enemy is going to react. But I can put in something about the bomb-boulder if you had an idea in mind?

Would the Lower Tops/Upper Tops under Farbjorn and Stigulf's command also be with us, or no?

We're going to be leading the attack force, so yeah, we'll be with our men. I'm going to edit this to make it clearer.

Essentially we'd be the unit leaders, and would prioritise engaging the enemy heavy hitters so they can't cut a swathe through our men.

Alright, my version:

[X] Plan The Element of Surprise Mk. 2.5: Different People For Different Jobs
-[X] Sail the Wavedancer up the river straight to the castle's walls, grabbing everyone's attention, and begin a direct assault.
-[X] ...After having stealthily deposited a strike team consisting of Heima Smiles and his eight picked wolves, who will climb up the cliff using the distraction of our frontal attack.

We leave this up to Heima's judgement and experience.
-[X] Stigulf, Farbjorn, and their and our other elites (Lower Top or better) will be on hand to counter the enemy knights, and will actively move to engage such targets if possible.
-[X] Meanwhile, we and Abjorn will lead our troops and take the fight to the enemy Thanes and Norsemen and prepare for our kinsmen to come find us...we'll take the opportunity to go for him directly if it comes up. We will obviously adapt to situations as they arise, but this is the plan.
-[X] Ideally, the strike team attacking the walls from behind cause a collapse in the defender's morale, and and lead many to believe the castle has fallen, allowing the knights and the Norse to accept terms of honourable surrender.
-[X] Move Travel Pack to a Pocket, put Thievesbane on our belt (adding +2 Combat Pool), personally unassign all Tricks from our Fylgja and store 9 additional Basic Shields in it. Also assign Stabilizing Palm and Forceful Lever into our remaining Capacity.

We can have our people actively seek out and engage other people. It's not perfect, but if we don't try it certainly won't happen the way we want it to.

It seems that IF had upped the available supply of Odr cultivator by a several order of magnitude, we really need to have a discussion with one or the other about their experience, Farbjorn might even be a higher realm.

Also, I really like the idea of Abjorn learning that his distant brother who he only known by the shadow he cast on him is actually a good brother, He might even be a contact about disclosure to help Abjorn out, and he might have a few people of his own he wanted to get in on the fun too.
