But his storytelling would be excellent, hamming it up all the while and encouraging creative and exciting play. One rule, though: No Bards allowed. That means you, Silas.

I imagine he might be willing to make an exception...so long as the bard in question beats someone to death with their instrument.

Monster manual, waifu catalogue, same thing really. What's in a name? That which we call a crystal fern, by any other word would shine as bright.

I imagine that Qymaen would make for an...interesting GM.

Qymaen: You see a group of feeble enemies who have dared to challenge you. Do you fight, or flee?
Player: Uh...flee?
Qymaen: As you attempt to run away from the battle, you are cut down by their arrows like the coward you are. Get out.
I wonder how he'd deal with rogues.

I've never actually considered it before, but now that I am thinking about it I'm absolutely certain Silas has beaten a man to death with a musical instrument at least once in his life.

"Easier than you'd think actually. A high quality fizzz is sturdy enough, and just the right size, to use as a club."

Pretty good party comp I see. Clearly Riphath gave tips before the session. But who's DMing?

Edit: I'm betting either Priam or the General.
Priam, since he was PR1, even, was GM. I'd play in his game.

Thrawn was the party leader, helping the others come up with stuff. He played first edition and looked at the differences before playing with Ahsoka and Ciaran, helping them devise characters. HK47 heard it was happening and invited himself.

I dunno. A perform (war chant) bard with dragonfire inspiration (weapons catch on magic fire and do more damage) could be right up his alley.

So this is what's happening in Washington state:
Which means it's pretty likely that I'll lose power at some point. I am really looking forward to the next 'Results' update, though I may not be able to contribute to the discussion afterward. :(

If we want to start that discussion now, we'll be determining at least three things:
  1. Who should lead the Commerce Guild now that Shu Mai has been ousted?
  2. How we should use our new media network that we built with Papanoida's help? (Short term, to avoid war with the Separatists; long term, to counter Palpatine's propaganda edge and reduce his popularity and influence)
  3. In what way will we be annoying Padme this turn? (Presumably, it involves Anakin's return...)

Also, not sure if this counts as a separate item, but we really need to decide on an actual name for our new media empire.
In the meantime, I'd be interested if anyone has a suggestion for what name we should attach to our new media network. We have 'Karada Corporation' for our medical business and 'Silver Cross' for our charity, La'Sombra for our asteroid base and Lordran/Kiln for our planet. A galaxy-spanning media conglomerate seems like it deserves pride of place and a unique identifier as well.
A few suggestions based on foreign-language words:

'News'/information/message
Tayori (Japanese)
Khabar (Hindi)
Besorah (Hebrew)
Nuntia (Latin)

'Propaganda'
Senden (Japanese)
Khosanea (Khmer)
Pracara (Punjabi)
Mgbasa (Igbo)

'Press'
Habari (Swahili)
Piestírio (Greek)
Praelum (Latin)

Alternately, if we want to go with an in-universe languages:

Nawara (Twi'leki, Ryl) for 'speaker' or 'tongue'
Zelada (Twi'leki, Ryl) for 'traveler' or 'explorer'
Teksa (Twi'leki, Ryl) for 'trustworthy'
Jorhaa'ir (Mando'a) for 'speak' or 'talk'
Nau'ur (Mando'a) for 'light up' or 'illuminate'
Haat (Mando'a) for 'truth'
Note that Greek, Latin, and Hebrew languages are all in-universe languages as well (Greek is Old Tionese, Latin is original High Galactic, and Hebrew is Sith). If we wanted to be really ballsy, here's a dedicated lexicon for the Sith language. Items of note:

Jen = shadow, dark, hidden
Jiass = 'integrate' or 'harmonize'
Saarai = truth
Tash = lie
We'd probably want to combine some of these root-words. Pity that the Jensaarai Force sect already claimed the compound for 'hidden truth', but Jias'saarai (balanced truth) might work just as well. Or, if we want to thumb the eye of Palpatine and focus on propaganda (regardless of the quality of news we cover), we might try Tash'saarai or Saarai'tash (aka the Arnold Schwarzenegger film 'True Lies'). We might also find Hebrew roots to combine with any of these, in hopes of finding something better.

Personally, I'm inclined to pick one of the real-world foreign-language words -- either Senden (Japanese word for 'propaganda') or Habari (Swahili for 'printing press') seem to fit. Let us know what you think.

EDIT: the specific corporation name would be something like:
'Senden Corporation'
'Habari Media'
I confess a slight preference for 'Habari Media' -- we have Asia (Japan) and Europe (Germany, Spain) represented in Karada Corporation, Versuch Labs, and La'Sombra, but we don't have any representation for African languages.

OTOH, @Whumbly did suggest that we use 'IRIS Network', which sounds pretty great as well. It was originally an homage to 'Beyond Good and Evil', but doubles as a reference to the Greek goddess of rainbows and messages.

If we want to take things in more of a mythology direction, we might also borrow Hermes (trickster god, patron of merchants, thieves, and heralds... anyone else seeing how perfect this is?). Alternately:
If we don't want to directly refer to Hermes (a bit too recognizable), we could borrow the name of his winged sandals, the Talaria. That'd give us a ready-made logo as well.

So:
  • Habari Media
  • IRIS Network
  • Talaria Press
Other suggestions? Does anyone have a favorite from these?

I like the IRIS Network. It's fitting for Ciaran to go with the "eyes/seeing" theme like with the Abyss Watchers and the Oracle.

It helps that it would be used to help people see through the fog/shadow of Palpatine's propaganda (unless I'm mistaken).

If it were an acronym, what would it stand for? If there was discussion on that before, I either don't know or have forgotten.

Don't remember any discussion, but Whumbly's original suggestion was:
The IRIS Network [Insightful Reporting for Independent Sentients]
Which kinda reminds me of the MCU joke:

"Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division."
"And what does that mean to you?
"It means someone really wanted our initials to spell out SHIELD."

I'm okay with Iris Network as a non-acronym; I'd kinda prefer it, actually, so there's a bit of built-in ambiguity about its precise meaning (part of the eye, Beyond Good and Evil reference, rainbow goddess, that sort of thing).

I support IRIS as well. But should it be an acronym or not?

Insightful Reporting for Independent Sentients.

Edit: Dammed Ninjas. Now I've got the urge to go find my PS3 to play it [I did have the PS2 version when it came out, loved it to bits, but I lost it after our PS2 broke... several years after I dropped one of those old small tv's on it].

As much as I'd like it to be something in Hebrew/Sith, just so someone can react to it being in Sith and lead to Ciaran swearing it's a coincidence, I have to admit I like IRIS, although I think that the "S" should stand for "Sapients" instead of "Sentients", since the latter includes non-sapient animals (then again, the former includes really smart but non-sentient machines, so ehhh).

I shall admit, I don't really understand the difference between sapients and sentients.

Sentience is the ability to feel and stuff - so, my dog is sentient. Sapience is what sci-fi usually means when it says sentient, and has connotations of high-level intelligence and self-awareness.

It's tricky, but generally, the difference is how human-like the thought processes of the subject is, because figuring out what Intelligence really is is weird and leads to drunk and crying zoologists.

Sapient = Similar to Human thought processes (It's in our species' name after all Homo Sapiens)
Sentient = Actively responds to the environment

Sentience is the capacity to perceive and feel, or respond to that environment in a way we could describe as feeling. Dogs and cats and other complex animals are sentient. It is a necessary ability in order to suffer.

Sapience is the capacity to think, have a complex consciousness and the ability to acquire wisdom. Humans have this, and chimps have it and some other animals probably have it.

As dragontrapper said basically.

Sentient = Actively responds to the environment
As an example, a sunflower is a sentient being, as seen by how it follows the sun. A crow is sapient based on it's ability to solve logical puzzles and capacity for more complex comunication.

Yeah and its the case with the crow that it has less complex sapience than a human does.
