The Chosen One Rethinking his Career Options

Over the past several days in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, there were some disturbances in the Force. Not the typical ones of ill omen that most in the galaxy believe the Jedi only detect. Rather a sense of internal difficulties among several figures. Mainly a certain popular trio in the Order that go by the names of Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka. There were still normal for the most part, but they seemed to be contemplating an unknown event.

Obi-Wan and Ahsoka were going through long meditation. The earlier was not unusual, but that latter was strange given her youth. But in time, they eventually moved on and the oddity of emotions surrounding them slowly disappeared.

But the biggest surprise was the one who might have been the prophesized Chosen One. He had a curious interest in the library for the past few days and took several ancient data slates from the history of the Old Republic into his room for private studying. Some believed he was studying previous wars for information on how to lead, others say he might have finally started to mature and seek personal wisdom proactively, but the answer was likely only known by his mentor and student and they were not saying anything.

What almost no one realized what that Anakin Skywalker was looking for information of an ancient Sith Lord. A Sith Lord that kept an unusually low profile and had very little information upon despite destroying the Jedi Order at one point in time.

The one known only as Darth Traya. A name he recalled overhearing from The Son on what was probably the worse day of his life.

Her history was very unusual for a Sith. The old woman served as the mentor of a former Jedi General only known as 'The Exile'. Along with teaching Revan, the legendary Sith Lord who went back to the light. A Sith who was a former Jedi Historian that performed unconventional teaching methods that insanely wanted to destroy the Force of all things. A knowledgeable Force user who even destroyed the very Sith Order she created and got rid of evil abominations like a certain Darth Nihilus that made the Chosen One really glad he was dead.

When she was killed for her crimes, she was told in distant legends to have gone down with a smile on her face. Achieving everything she wanted through her final apprentice who slayed her in single combat. A very unusual fate for a Sith given how they often died not achieving what they wanted.

If Ciaran was the actual successor of such a dangerous woman, she must have some kind of grand plan for the galaxy. The problem was that she completely ignored conventional Sith tactics, or even general methods used by Darksiders. Developing hospitals and relief efforts for the Clone Wars would have been counterproductive for plans. Sure it would have given her a great reputation, but it would not directly benefit her. And if it wasn't for her help, the contemplating Jedi knew that his mother might have died or gotten involved in some nasty business on Tatooine. Which even to this day, Anakin wished he could do something about it, but could not since she was not threatened in any capacity. Which was possibly the biggest annoyance he had with the Order. The Jedi always spoke about helping others, but they seemed to do anything with the Slavery in many parts of the galaxy. Sure there were political problems and the wrong move could cause fallout with public opinion, especially after what happened with that Huk War that still occasionally shadowed the Order.

Ciaran had some plan for the galaxy and by all intentions, she should be theenemy. Yet a part of Anakin knew that she cared about him in some way. As if a new connection was formed that day. Which oddly enough, almost sounds familiar to an unusual part of the Force known commonly as a "Force Bond" from some old books from the Republic Error. Although there was very little information on the subject that still survived to this current day.

But the biggest problem Skywalker had was the vision of a possible future.

A vision of where he would submit to a Sith Lord who seemed familiar in some way, but he could not put his head around who.

A vision of where he would destroy the Jedi Order.

A vision of where he was even willing to kill younglings who did not deserved to be slaughtered.

And worse of all, a vision of where he would kill Padme in furious anger for a perceived betrayal even when she tried to convince her lover to turn around and failed.

As horrific as all the visions were, they did provide much insight on a potential future. The Chosen One knew that the Jedi Council were unlikely to make the adventurous Jedi a member of that Council like his Master. Many distrusted him since Anakin was always one of the most unorthodox members. In hindsight, there was no way that anyone would him to become a member despite his impressive military record. And it was very unlikely to happen for a long time, if ever.

This potential future scared the Jedi more than anything else in the galaxy. Worse was that there was something within himself that told him that the vision was completely possible unless he did something to change that. And after several days of debating, a simple, if unorthodox idea was found. Ironically, it was the same method Count Dooku used many years ago.

Leave the Jedi Order.

At first, the idea was appalling, but as time passed, it was becoming more and more appealing. If worse came to worse, it was unlikely that Anakin's potential future as Darth Vader could occur if the Jedi Order was safe from his infiltration. Many of his friends in the Order would be safe from being stabbed in the back.

Without being in the Order, it was possible that he and Padme can have a more open relationship. A thought that puts a big smile on his face given how stressful it was to maintain the secret nature of the relationship for so long.

And there were plenty of jobs an ex-Jedi could perform. The Force could give him dangerous, but very profitable business opportunities that could make the galaxy a better place. At least Padme could provide a decent upkeep until he could decide what to do in the galaxy.

But the Chosen One was not so arrogant to believe he could just leave the Jedi Order given everything they done for him. Not to mention his responsibilities as a General in the Clone Wars that could be considered treason if he went AWOL. The burdens of Leadership.

Snips also needed more training and he wanted to at least finish her training before leaving. It was only proper to finish her training as proper payback for everything the Order did for him over a decade ago.

It could take several months, likely years before he could walk away. But Anakin Skywalker didn't mind being patient for a few more years and consider his options. Frustration gave way to a feeling of relief that he never experience for so long. And with that thought, he ended his meditations and got back to the matters of his studies. There were some truly fascinating material from the days of the Old Republic that absolutely fascinated him. He just wished the Ruusan Reform did not destroy so much interesting technology that might have been very useful for the current war.

-*-

"You seem more at ease these days Anakin. Did you find something interesting?"

"I found an answer to an old question I have been pondering for a long time Master. I feel much more motivated to ending the Clone Wars and continue teaching Snips."

"I am glad that the experience from earlier gave you more insight. Perhaps you are finally maturing into your responsibilities as a Jedi."

"I can say that I have my priorities straightened out now."

Why did it switch to second person point of view here?

A good guess, and had you integrated the Lava Crystal that probably would have been it, but no. You are on the right track though...kind of. Sort of.
Well, the only other blades that I know of from Dark Souls that has an internal glow would be the Moonlight Greatsword, the Greatsword of Judgement, the Profaned Greatsword, and Lorian's Greatsword. Were there any I missed?

Well since the blade in question is going to be spoiled by the interlude title (because obviously the creation of Ciaran's personal lightsaber deserves more given both the circumstances and the roll), I'll be nice and let you people know that one of these answers is right and wrong at the same time.

Proof that a secret element in the future of a quest known only to one's self is like crack to a QM.

While that is true, in this case it's honestly more of a fun activity for the thread while I finish up the update. Guess what I'm basing Ciaran's Lightsaber on and win a prize!

(Spoilers: There's not a real prize aside from the fuzzy feelings of getting it right.)

"The gold was the friendships you gained along the way!" Says the Leprechaun as he slowly backs away.

"That's a real lame prize, Mr. Leprechaun. Now where is my fucking gold?" Says the young boy while he and his comrades advance forwards all armed with shanks.

Right and Wrong? ... Of course! Ciaran's dueling style is basically the same as that which the hunters use in Bloodborne, so I should have been looking there for the blade instead of Dark Souls! So it would be the Holy Moonlight Sword, not the Moonlight Greatsword! I guess I should have expected Ciaran to use a trick weapon.

"Lame? You know what else is lame? You, after I break yer feckin' legs," says the Leperchaun, raising his shillelagh.

A small mistake with grammar. Fixed.

@SlyOverlord, love the omake! There were a few other grammar issues that need fixing, though:
got rid of evil abominations like a certain Darth Nihilus that you were really glad was dead.
As if a new connection was formed between the two of you that day.
she tried to convince you to turn around and failed.
there was no way that anyone would allow you to become a member

I didn't really like the omake. I mean, it was good, I just don't want it to be canon. I want Anakin to stay a Jedi. He's a good guy, he's THE good guy as the Chosen One, and the Jedi are the good guys of the setting. It's better for him, the setting, and the narrative if he instead made the Jedi Order better later in his life (either as part of it or leading it) rather than leaving it.

Not sure if it can be saved from within. The Jedi order is as corrupt as the Catholic church before the Protestant Reformation at this point and I suspect it would take something akin to the Ninety-Five Thesis to force them to change their ways.

I understand how you feel, but I can't see why Anakin would want to stay with the Jedi given his visions. At this point, he would be appalled at raiding the Jedi Temple and killed so many people that he knew for years. And given the severity of his vision (also what we know of when he was Darth Vader), he might consider it too dangerous to be with the Jedi because of fear of the Dark Side. Better to go crazy at a distance and not kill all of his former friends because of easy access. I doubt he would want to become a member of the Jedi Council either because of the potential damage he could do if he falls.

Also, Anakin has expressed interest in leaving the Jedi Order before. When Ahsoka was leaving for good, he even implied that he wished he was willing to leave as easily as his apprentice. Maintaining a secret marriage can be hard and stressful. If Anakin left the Order, what could the Jedi do if he decided to make the marriage more official? His mother is still alive as well, so he has another emotional attachment and probably wouldn't mind spending more time with her after so long.

And I think that Ciaran (aka us) is going to convince him to leave in some way. Unless there is some assignment where he could disappear for months, if not years, at a time without anyone getting suspicious.

Unless the Jedi go through some serious reforms, the odds of him staying around are...fragile at best.

If anyone could figure out how to store a smaller lightsaber inside of a larger lightsaber, it would be Ciaran.
Considering in Wraith Squadron, an undercover close combat specialist had (essentially) a current-generation Iphone hooked into a first generation Ipad case, using the Ipad display, and then using the extra space to stash stuff inside? I could see someone conjuring a way to make it happen. Create an ice cream-cone shaped battery that fits in the bottom part of the casing and then use the "ice cream scoop" space to house a short lightsaber? A nifty feat of engineering, but not impossible.

I understand how you feel, but I can't see why Anakin would want to stay with the Jedi given his visions.
Because he wants to do good, he knows how much good the Jedi do (even with their failings), he knows the good he can do as a Jedi, and he knows he could make the Jedi do even more good. After he finishes training Ahsoka, he'll be elevated to the rank of Jedi Master and make an already good organisation even better from the inside.

His vision should only warn him of a dark path he must take care not to walk, not to leave the Jedi for fear of what would happen if he did go down that path. If he falls to darkness, it doesn't matter how close or how far he is from the Jedi. Revan didn't start his Sith Empire on Coruscant, after all. Also, fear leads to the Dark Side. To run from the Jedi for fear of what he could do to them is a self-defeating act.

Unless the Jedi go through some serious reforms, the odds of him staying around are...fragile at best.
The idea is that Anakin will make those reforms himself. All he needs is patience and discipline. He's grown a great deal since his youth - especially thanks to teaching Ahsoka - and still has much more room for growth.
