Superman: Hero for Hire

Can't lie it been interesting see Superman be more a freelance hero rather than primarily operating in Metropolis. It would probably mean we wouldn't have to directly encounter him as much as canon. On the other hand this allows Supes to spread his influence more across the country or even world.
...should we mind though?

we don't hate him yet.

if the dude can be... directed... towards any of the other legaly/moraly challanged organisations and individuals the blue brick can act as our lightningrod, where he breaks the foes, and we pick up the pieces of any alien invasion he stops, and usee it to build up our legacy.

we will not stand being overshadowed, obviously, but the most important thing is our legacy and that people know us. our pr apartment might be able to cut him down to size and make it seem like he is mearly a minor contributor, if we play our cards right.

My propaganda goal is to find a way to turn Superman's idealism against itself, like how President Lex fucked with Superman by making the conflict Truth and Justice have with The American Way more obvious.
(there have been three attacks on Metropolis that occurred because you were there).
I remember the current one and the League of Shadows one. What was the third?
we don't hate him yet.
Only because we haven't met him.

I remember the current one and the League of Shadows one. What was the third?
Ignition. Multiple high-profile terrorist attacks on the same scale as the Oklahoma City bombing. The first one only killed less people than Oklahoma City because our HQ tower is a hell of a lot sturdier than the Alfred P. Murrah Building.

...Huh.

Now, a Jewish gang that early, pre-Civil War, would have been something downright unusual. I'd figured them for Anglo-American nativists, with "Sons of David" being their way of casting Irishmen and Germans and whatever as 'Philistines.' Gold is not an unknown last name in England, though it's often rendered as Gould, Golde, and so on.
Gotham is weird. A lot of the behind the scenes stuff is the Court of Owls engineering things. I can't go too into depth on this but the Court of Owls basically spent 200+ years ensuring that Gotham had a reputation as a terrible place to keep outsiders out of it.

When you look at the actual breakdown of characters by religion the place with the most Jewish people right after Israel is Gotham of all places. As such I interpreted that to mean that Gotham actually has a strong Jewish community within it. Plus when I did my research on the actual early gang's of Gotham the Sons of David were explicitly mentioned as a Jewish gang. Gold is also a Jewish surname (far less common than Goldman but still present). A lot of the pieces fit together and so it felt right to have them be the first recognized gang.

The other contributing factor was that the Court of Owls controlled Gotham, particularly the Anglo-American populations and it played into their favor to allow things to play out this way so that they could control the community more effectively this way.

It's weird but a lot of stuff clicked to make it work in my mind.
Huh. That is ALSO very unusual for this pre-Civil War timeframe. Usually any attempt to put together an ethnic, ah, protective society, on behalf of blacks the way that, say, the Irish did in those years got brutally squashed by whites who viewed them as even worse than the Irish.
Again part of this is Court fuckery. They're actively making Gotham be perceived by the rest of the US as "a pit of lawlessness" so no one looks at what they are doing too closely. Gotham gets a reputation as a terrible place that distracts people and keeps out outsiders while the Court maintains control over the hearts and minds of the populace. By creating "threats" to civilized order they keep everyone else firmly in line.
The usual dynamic would have been for the rise of the All-Americans to happen first and for the other gangs to form in self-defense.
And this is actually the point where the Court of Owls fails to control things properly. The "All-Americans" form after because the Court did not want them to form since they wanted people to remain firmly under their control. However eventually the anger boiled over and the All-Americans formed. They were promptly beaten because the other gangs were too entrenched and they united against them and the Court then spun that to continue their narrative of "Gotham is a hellhole no one would want to be in".

It's different from most cities but Gotham is unique in a lot of ways. There's two histories for the city. What's in the history books which is filled with a lot of "huh that's weird why did that happen?" moments and the one where you see why and how the Court of Owls is manipulating things to achieve a specific aim.
@King crimson: I mean, my idea was for us in-universe to cultivate that image rather than start shouting it with no "evidence". Bait criminals into going after Superman for rewards and/or fame, nurture the idea Superman's inaction is unjustified, rile up people who feel "wronged" by him, that kind of stuff.

Obviously it isn't gonna be easy and we'll never obtain a full 180 on Superman's social reputation, and honestly we shouldn't- the boy scout is useful for dealing with threats for us. Still, nurturing the idea he's better suited for destruction and Lexcorp is the one that'll make everything truly better? Seems like a reasonable enough thing to try.
That's possible. My point though is that attempting to use the superhero paradox specifically is incredibly risky. Even something as simple as baiting criminals into attacking Superman is not easy (the rewards need to be worth the risk) and the kicker is that if anything gets traced back to you, it undermines the very argument you proposed. It's possible to pull off but the level of secrecy required for some of this stuff is ludicrous.

There are tons of ways to try and blame Superman for things (he doesn't kill, he doesn't help clean up, he's not saving effectively, he's biased and prioritizes people) but very specifically blaming Superman for the emergence of Supervillains and the rise of Supervillain attacks (which is what the Superhero paradox does) will not work easily.

Your idea as a whole is sound even if the specific terms you used were ones that weren't really feasible and would have you dancing on a razors edge if you committed to it. Saying "Superman attracts criminals because criminals attack Superman" is a really iffy tack to take (it's comparable to saying "Women in revealing clothing attract rapists because rapists attack women in revealing clothing). It's a real position you can take and try to run with but I will let you know in advance that it would need to rely on emotion more than logic and is an argument that can be easily refuted if you actually think through it. With ideas on how to specifically turn the public against Superman you ought to think through what happens not only if things go right but also if things go wrong.
I thought we could do that with Social Media Memes? Of course we would need to work with this version of Hugo Strange's academic work.
Again you can do it but I'm letting you know in advance that it's not this perfect foolproof untouchable option.

My specific warning was that the argument of "Superman causes supervillain attacks" wouldn't work as well as you might think and are liable to come crashing down hard and fast.

Should we let Lois Lane die and have Superman join us to create a Brave New Metropolis? Only less stupid than that version of Lex of course.

On the other hand better the devil we know than the devil we dont.
Best to not risk it. Also, whatever happens, do not kill Wally West, even if it seems like a good idea at the time. Find a way to imprison him. Or something.

Side Note for our Gotham trip:-

Sonia Alcana, Rocky Ballantine and Kathy Duquesne. Yay or Nay?

Dr Ballantine's shapeshifting metal is impressive and versitile.
Alcana and Duquesne sound like mildly useful Martial/Intrigue heroine types, cut from the same cloth as Katherine Kane but probably a step down in ability. Ballantine's smart metal, on the other hand, is extremely useful, though we can probably develop it ourselves by playing around with nanites.

True but if we make her Head of Nanite R&D it be a huge boost. Also never say no to more Learning Units especially the ones we can easily gain the loyalty of with money and an army of lawyers.

As for Kathy Duquesne I think she's more of a Stewardship unit since she was the one who funded things.

However it's her Father that is of interest to me. Once he serves his time in prison, he'd make a moderately good Intrigue/Stewardship unit for Weapons Procurement/Sales.

I just thought of something, if we have Nygma look into Haly's circus and he finds out about the Court Of Owls that's probably a puzzle we can keep him busy solving for a long time

After all the smartest man in the world can't have a secret society having been manipulating his hometown under his nose all this time can he?

Hmm, that makes me think @King crimson does Doctor Roquette exist here?

We should very much leave gotham as batman's problem with any luck no man's land happens and we can stop paying attention tp gotham all together.

My meta-thought on Superman is...we're squashing down on conventional crime a bunch, mostly because its our turf and we've been giving the cops Enuff Dakka and have the potential for Dystopian Police State levels of surveillance.

That'd rob him of a lot of opportunities to win public goodwill in small ways, and probably result in expanding his 'territory', Metropolis won't have a lot to engage him with except our criminal operations.

So I can see three main levels of interaction:
-Direct antagonism - Frankly, we don't bother with mugging or other violent crimes and with our level of economic presence he'd be more dangerous as Clark Kent, reporter with X ray vision and super hearing, than as Superman.

-Competition - This would mostly feature when we draw down regional heat, which happens on a regular basis. Here he steals the show from our successes, and Lex's retaliation would be focused on setting up to humiliate Supes or doing better than Supes(Lex being Lex, he probably would have difficulty accepting that Superman's supernatural efforts are just much more photogenic than any amount of power armored jackboots).

-Regional interaction - With local street level crime stomped a bunch, Superman can afford to patrol a much wider range than just Metropolis, which might step on other hero territories. Complicated mess, but one which we won't intersect in heavily I think?

This results in Edward Nygma picking a fight with the Court of Owls. And asking us to help. And/or the Court of Owls trying to figure out a way to strike at us effectively.

Ain't nobody got time for that shit.

Best just to leave Gotham alone unless it specifically pokes us. Recruit talent, but don't arbitrarily fuck around with it for no reason just because we can. They've already got a billionaire super-badass-normal character with massive secret activities. Isn't one enough for them? :p

We should very much leave gotham as batman's problem with any luck no man's land happens and we can stop paying attention tp gotham all together.
In this timeline the exact events of No Man's Land don't strike me as very plausible, if only because Gotham is sitting on the I-95 corridor smack in the middle of the Boston-Washington corridor. You can't just write off a place like that.

Sorry about the delays everyone. Real life is not the greatest right now. I am working on the update and I should have it out today (I expect to have it up by 9 pm PST). That said I ask that you stay patient with me even as my scheduling stays a little hectic.

Edit: So uh, I'm still working on the update and I didn't realize just how huge it would get. I've got at least 10 POV's with this update and I'm going to break 5K words easy. This update is kind of huge.

Edit: it keeps getting bigger. Schedule slip has occured and I now hope to get it out by 11:30

If it turns out to be unmanageable, maybe we could get a non-voting partial update that just... tells us what's going on?

I for one am a bit antsy about it all.

We either rolleed really well or really badly.

Or just, y'know, a lot of shit going on. It's a pitched battle fought all over a huge city. And, well, my plan DOES have us fanning out reconnaissance units over pretty much the entire city, plus there are at least two major concentrations of field forces deployed against enemy armored units, plus various contingents securing key locations, plus massive drone airstrikes against the mecha blocking the highways north and south of town.

Intergang's Attack on Metropolis Part 2: The Opening Salvos
The winning plan from last time is as follows:
[X] Plan Castle Defense
-[X] [Equip] Attach equipment to a unit
--[X] [Gear] Roxanne Sutton gets her rocket and the freeze grenades, as the grenades are incompatible with exosuits and she's the only person on the battlefield with neither an exosuit nor superpowers. Sorry, Leonard. Maybe next time.
--[X] [Gear] 320 Myrmidon suits for Serial Peacemaking. 660 Myrmidon suits for security troopers. 5 Myrmidon suits for Mercy, Rose, Mick, Leonard, and Katherine. 15 suits in reserve at LexCorp tower
--[X] [Gear] Put security troopers in all 500 of our stealth vehicles and all 500 of our armored vehicles.
--[X] [Gear] Our 350 remaining security troopers stay in their basic Mark III exosuits. This leaves 2320 (?) basic exosuits to spare. Any time we see a way to get cops into exosuits, or to move exosuits to where the cops are, hand them out.
-[X] Keep units inside LexCorp tower
--[X] 50 minitanks, 75 LexCorp security troopers in Mark III armor and 100 in Myrmidon armor, 50 drone fighters, 100 spy drones.
---[X] Lex and Cassandra
---[X] Special Duties hero units: Felicity, Lisa, Samuel, Lucy, Caitlin, Louise, Carl
---[X] "Magician" hero units: Rebecca, Cerise, Jinx
---[X] "Civilian" hero units: Karl, Marie, Meena,
--[X] Overall: Man the tower defenses. Pull nonessential civilian personnel (including Karl, Marie, Meena, and Lisa for now) into the most structurally secure parts of the tower. Lex will go to whatever part of the tower we're using as a headquarters; Cassandra will accompany him. Carl should oversee coordination and operation of the tower defenses.
---[X] Regular units: The drone fighters will fly combat air patrol around the building and engage any enemy troops that try to attack the building by flying. They are also a reserve force in case we want to order an airstrike. The spy drones are for Felicity Smoak, Sam Scudder, and Edward Nygma (if he's in town) to personally command, in case they need control of drones to aid their respective task (see below)
---[X] Witches' Coven: Rebecca Carstairs should reinforce/repair the wards, and get ready to magically heal wounded. Cerise Orielle should try and figure out what she needs in order to use her tracking spell to locate Bruno Mannheim, and do it if she can. Jinx should see if she can spot the enemy from long range and curse them with bad luck while staying inside the building, especially the giant robots. Try to keep Jinx behind an armored window or the cover of someone wearing an exosuit. Detail a section of five of the exosuit security troopers as a personal protective detail for Jinx, and to spot targets for her.
---[X] Electronic Warfare: Samuel Scudder will monitor the footage from security cameras, spy drones, and stealth vehicles, looking for unusual events or enemy hero units and leaders. Edward Nygma, if he's in town, has one puzzle to handle right now, using all the surveillance and scouting resources available- where is Bruno Mannheim in all this? Felicity Smoak should see if she can use the HQ's equipment and computational resources to break into Intergang's communications or somehow hack their equipment.
---[X] Communications: Lucy Lane is in charge of taking some of the staff and organizing communications. First priority is to get in touch with the military and make sure they know our forces are present and on their side. Second priority is to coordinate with City Hall and the police. Marie, while in a relatively sheltered part of the tower, gets started on a series of press releases via Handshake.
---[X] Weird Science: Caitlin Snow and Louise Lincoln should go down to their labs and see if they can cobble together any more experimental cryo-weaponry.
-[X] Deploy Units to New Troy
--[X] 120 Serial Peacemakers under Rose Wilson. Roxanne Sutton, with 20 Serial Peacemakers as support and wingmen. Mari McCabe, with 20 Serial Peacemakers as personal protective detail and support. 200 minitanks. 400 LexCorp security troopers in Myrmidon armor under Mercy Graves. 150 stealth vehicles. 650 drone fighters. Total force: 910 soldiers with heavy weaponry, 650 killbots... and six hero units.
--[X] Forces in New Troy should coordinate with the smaller forces protecting specific targets IN New Troy.
--[X] Roxanne will lead the attack on the mecha attacking the Daily Planet. Mari will lead the attack on the mecha attacking LexCorp Tower. Minitank units attached to the New Troy force are to provide counter-mecha support where practical.
--[X] Rose and Mercy will coordinate overall ground force response to the Intergang presence. Engage and destroy.
--[X] Stealth vehicles are to harass the Intergang forces' flanks. Avoid confrontation with enemy heavy armor.
--[X] Drone fighters are to swarm the sky over New Troy, shooting down any Intergang power armor operators or other units that take to the skies. Drone fighters have clearance to spread out from New Troy area to maintain general air superiority over the city if they detect Intergang fliers operating outside New Troy proper. Once air supremacy is secure, the drone fighters may begin launching ground attacks.
-[X] Deploy units to the Daily Planet
--[X] 60 LexCorp security troopers in Myrmidon armor. 30 minitanks. 100 spy drones.
--[X] Secure the Daily Planet and protect VIP targets. The drones will sweep the perimeter of the area for any sign of larger-scale attacks.
-[X] Deploy Units to STAR Labs
--[X] Leonard Snart in command. Mick Rory along with him. 100 LexCorp security troopers in Mark III armor, 50 in Myrmidon armor, 50 minitanks, 100 spy drones
--[X] Secure STAR Labs and protect VIP targets. The drones will sweep the perimeter of the area for any sign of larger-scale attacks.
-[X] Deploy units to City Hall
--[X] 100 LexCorp security troopers in Mark III armor, 50 in Myrmidon armor, 50 minitanks, 100 spy drones
--[X] Secure City Hall and protect VIP targets. The drones will sweep the perimeter of the area for any sign of larger-scale attacks.
-[X] Deploy Units to Metropolis General Hospital
--[X] 100 spy drones, 75 LexCorp security troopers in Mark III armor, 40 minitanks, and Oswald Loomis
--[X] Oswald is to reassure patients in the pediatric ward and generally do PR outreach. The troopers and minitanks are to secure the building against attacks, while the drones form a perimeter and sweep the area for any signs of larger-scale attacks.
-[X] Deploy units to Centennial Park
--[X] 150 Serial Peacemakers led by Katherine Kane. Pamela Isley, with ten of the Peacemakers as personal protective detail. 80 LexCorp minitanks. 100 drone fighters for air support. 150 spy drones for reconnaissance and to watch their flanks.
--[X] First wave of spy drones flies in to estimate enemy strength and make sure this isn't some kind of trap (our force is to fall back if it is). If it looks like the enemy is there in reasonable strength, order in the ground force. Locate and engage enemy armored vehicles. Pamela is welcome and encouraged to use her powers. Try to take prisoners; hopefully Pamela can pheromone them to answer questions, our exosuit troops can fly them back to the tower, and we can interrogate them.
-[X] Deploy units to Queensland
--[X] [Units] 50 stealth vehicles and 100 spy drones
--[X] [Strat] Scout the area for signs of Intergang forces and activities. Avoid combat at unfavorable odds. Stealth vehicles engage if they see a good opportunity.
-[X] Deploy units to Hobb's Gate
--[X] [Units] 50 stealth vehicles and 100 spy drones
--[X] [Strat] Scout the area for signs of Intergang forces and activities. Avoid combat at unfavorable odds. Stealth vehicles engage if they see a good opportunity.
-[X] Deploy units to Suicide Slums
--[X] [Units] 50 stealth vehicles and 100 spy drones
--[X] [Strat] Scout the area for signs of Intergang forces and activities. Avoid combat at unfavorable odds. Stealth vehicles engage if they see a good opportunity.
-[X] Deploy units to Metropolis Harbor
--[X] [Units] 50 stealth vehicles and 100 spy drones
--[X] [Strat] Scout the area for signs of Intergang forces and activities. Avoid combat at unfavorable odds. Stealth vehicles engage if they see a good opportunity.
-[X] Deploy units to Bakerline
--[X] [Units] 50 stealth vehicles and 100 spy drones
--[X] [Strat] Scout the area for signs of Intergang forces and activities. Avoid combat at unfavorable odds. Stealth vehicles engage if they see a good opportunity.
-[X] Deploy units to Park Ridge
--[X] [Units] 50 stealth vehicles and 100 spy drones
--[X] [Strat] Scout the area for signs of Intergang forces and activities. Avoid combat at unfavorable odds. Stealth vehicles engage if they see a good opportunity.
-[X] Deploy units to St. Martin's Island
--[X] [Units] 50 stealth vehicles and 100 spy drones
--[X] [Strat] Scout the area for signs of Intergang forces and activities. Avoid combat at unfavorable odds. Stealth vehicles engage if they see a good opportunity.
-[X] Deploy units to I-97, Baltimore-Metropolis highway (north)
--[X] [Units] 100 drone fighters, 50 spy drones.
--[X] [Strat] Launch a massed missile attack on the enemy mecha from Long range. If the first barrage doesn't do significant damage, keep up harassing fire with remaining munitions. Spy drones monitor the action from a distance and observe to see if the enemy has any other units in the area.
-[X] Deploy units to US 360, Richmond-Metropolis highway (south)
--[X] [Units] 100 drone fighters, 50 spy drones
--[X] [Strat] Launch a massed missile attack on the enemy mecha from Long range. If the first barrage doesn't do significant damage, keep up harassing fire with remaining munitions. Spy drones monitor the action from a distance and observe to see if the enemy has any other units in the area.
-[X] Deploy units to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge
--[X] [Units] 50 stealth vehicles and 50 spy drones
--[X] [Strat] Vehicles and most of the drones, scout the Metropolis-side (west) end of the bridge to see if there's an Intergang presence around our end of the bridge. Avoid intense combat. Send a few of the drones flying across the Chesapeake Bay to see if Intergang has massed any significant forces on the Eastern Shore.
Firstly there is some weirdness with the winning vote where you voted to deploy units to numerous areas and then didn't specify which units you wanted deployed there while being at capacity with the distribution of units to other places. As such I had two choices, actively move around units for you or simply not factor in the places you wanted to deploy to but didn't give a unit to head to there properly. I chose the second option. As such the six locations with no units actually deployed to them in the plan haven't been interacted in. This is not meant to be a punishment, it is a mistake on my part. In future I will warn you guys when you've made a plan that uses all of your units to capacity and still wants to deploy to more places so you can fix it. Thank you for your understanding.

Things are very big and very piecemeal with this update. There's several different points in which combat is occurring and I'll tackling each and every one of them. Some stuff will get bundled into another thing for brevity but it'll still be huge. As such I'll be listing a full thing of the results at the bottom of the update. I will not be listing the full transcript (50+ rolls) within this update. If people absolutely want to see it I'll include it but I do not think it is necessary for things to work. I've also not included the math for how many units are in each place so that I could get this update out on time. Sorry for this but I'm already late with getting this out on time and so I wanted to get things done.

Also I can now say that you did in fact technically miss the thing that could cause you to hate Superman more and in fact set up things pretty much perfectly for that twist. You didn't ignore it but by that same measure you also didn't fully catch what the set-up was. I'm happy that I can semi-accurately predict player behavior. It means that this next twist might work very well depending on how things go. The twist is out of my hands now and the flow of combat is all down to you.

This is the largest actual update (and I trimmed it down a lot) and a very ambitious experiment as well. As such there might be mistakes or things that don't work that I'd like to know about in advance so I can correct them. Also I'd like to hear about things that people like so that I can retain the core of what interests people. Let me know your thoughts and feelings and I'll take them into account. This part in particular is a lot of set up and so I'm excited for when the event starts to wind down. A lot of big things can start happening soon and the status quo will never be the same by the time we are done.

Intergang's Attack on Metropolis: The Opening Salvos
Mercy Graves
There was something surreal about this fight. No one expected to have Intergang straight up invade a city. It was odd seeing once familiar streets get turned into a virtual warzone. Lasers flung across the battlefield and both sides geared up in armored suits to take the fight to one another. LexCorp drones swarmed the air and strafed at fleeing opponents while the giant Intergang robots made the ground rumble every time they moved. The fight flowed and it was up to Mercy to secure New Troy.

She would have preferred her normal weapons to the fancy LexCorp exosuits but the battlefield wasn't a place to make comfort picks and the armor was what would keep her alive the best. She idly glanced to see Rose laughing as she torched a group of Intergang members in powered armor. At least mini-me was having fun. Mercy fired, her laser striking the back of a fleeing enemy. It seemed as though Intergang was ready to rout soon.

While fighting in New Troy had been stiff overall Intergang had crumpled in the face of LexCorp's assault. Intergang had no way of matching LexCorp's aerial superiority and while their powered armor was more maneuverable than LexCorp's any time one of them flew up LexCorp forces promptly brought them back down to ground. There had been some losses, especially in vehicles, as her forces pursued the fleeing members of Intergang. The problem though was those large mechas. Each one was built differently and Mercy had no way of effectively removing them without causing heavy casualties. She hoped that Mari or Roxy could at least take down one of them. It would save them a whole lot of time if they could handle that.

Rose regrouped with Mercy as the troops redistributed to commit to their next move. Right now the priority was on saving the 200 or so police officers that they'd picked up in the fighting. Intergang had hit the police incredibly hard and basically blitzed passed defenses. It wasn't in Mercy's nature to let enemies get away but in this case winning people's trust and respect would help in Lex's long term goals. Mercy didn't have any reason to question these orders. She could win battles but Lex would win wars. As such the grand strategy was his to do with as he pleased and Mercy would follow. All she had to do was win the battles he put her in command of. And right now Mercy was decisively striking for victory. It was up to the others to follow up and ensure the plan really worked out

Roxanne Sutton
The wind whistling, lasers blasting, explosions blooming all while riding a souped up rocket at death defying speeds while pestering a big ass robot crab thing with a giant laser strapped to it, what more could you want in life. Roxy was having a blast! Less literally than the people getting hit by the missiles but still a blast!

And so as she hurtled through the air Roxy couldn't be happier. She had a job to do though as well. Granted it was nice to get paid for this stuff but that also meant that she couldn't just stay in the air forever. The idly began to hurl grenades at the Intergang mech. Patches of ice bloomed across the gunmetal grey outside of the robot. The thing opened fire at her once more sending dozens of missiles after her. Roxy weaved around dozens of them maneuvering the missiles into striking everything but her. She even managed to get the missiles to hit some Intergang thugs. Of course then the Intergang thugs started firing at her.

In response Roxy maneuvered her rocket to get real low to the ground, nearly being street level. She pelted the thugs that she passed by with those fancy new freeze grenades laughing all the while. This was so much fun!

Out of the corner of her eye though, Roxy spotted something glowing bright red. Roxy immediately pulled up as fast as possible, instincts screaming at her that death was right around the corner. barely a second later a bright red light tore through the whole street incinerating everything in it's path. That was almost her. Roxy felt so alive right now. The mecha crab thing began to charge up for another shot as Roxy close in on it. She banked to the left as the shot went wide by a few feet. The energy it shot out really was this beautiful scarlet color. Roxy kept on closing in.

The Intergang war machine then unleashed a huge rain of missiles. Roxy dived once more. She always did want to try out this maneuver. She pulled out a line of steel rope and fired it into one of the big robots four legs. The machine began to step backward as the line connected. Roxy began to spin around the machines legs hoping to tangle them and bring it down. Then the line snapped and Roxy had to pull up to avoid another big energy blast. Apparently movies had lied to her.

Roxy needed to improvise again. She lobbed a grenade at the big machine while she slowly backed away to get more room to try another run. However the crab thing started to chase back after her. Shit this wasn't good. Still she could use this. She headed right up the side of the Daily Planet, her rocket angled straight up at the sky. The mech shot a missile right as she reached its apex. The blast missed but succeeded in dislodging the big dumb sphere from the top of the building. As is fell Roxy fired a line into the sphere and pulled it forwards before detaching it. The sphere was launched forwards and slammed into the mecha's main canon shattering it beyond repair.

That was a win for Roxy. She had taken on the long odds and she had won. Of course there still was the matter of wrecking the rest of the robot but she could handle that. Before she could finish the job though the mecha immediately began retreating. Roxy figured that as much fun as continuing to fight it would have been chasing after it into the unknown was probably not going to end well. Still a good time was had by all the people who matter, namely Roxy herself.

Of course by the time she checked into what was going on at the Daily Planet she realized that there might be more going on. Apparently Intergang had immediately grabbed some of the big names there and booked it while the mech and mooks distracted the forces there. They had won but had taken heavy losses and Intergang had gotten away with some important hostages. Still it was overall a win even if it did have some massive repercussions.

Mari McCabe
Well there was no time like the present to figure out what the Tantu Totem could really do. Fighting near LexCorp tower got really hectic really fast. Intergang had swarmed around the tower and at first they had managed to rip holes in the enemy lines before slamming into the wards that kept people with bad intent out of LexCorp. Those brief opening moments had been enough to let LexCorp forces swing things in their favor but the battle was nowhere near finished. Upon realizing that there was a barrier that didn't let people through the mech immediately began firing off as much of its weaponry at the tower as possible. LexCorp forces did their best to intercept this but the sheer volume of missles and energy blasts meant some went through.

As such Mari did her best to take out the more regular Intergang thugs that were providing covering fire for the humanoid mech. She switched between rhino, cheetah, bear and tiger and more faster than she ever had before. The strain of drawing on the Tantu Totems powers so heavily to take them out and to get in range had managed to prove immensely tiring. Still she had managed to get that part of the job done and while she was tired, losses around the tower were minimal. Now all that was left was to take down the mecha.

The armored vehicles LexCorp had brought to the fight began to rain fire down upon the machine yet screens of golden honeycombed light blocked the shots from ever connecting. It was up to Mari to try and take the thing down. She drew on the powers of the cheetah and raced over to mecha. It still wasn't moving to attack yet. She drew back for a punch and switched to drawing on the power of a blue whale. The punch sent shockwaves reverberating through the area but when the dust cleared she found that the mecha had gotten it's shields up in time to block the blow.

Suddenly the mecha's shields rapidly expanded sending everything flying backwards and successfully knocking some of the vehicles into LexCorp tower. Mari quickly cycled through various animals as she righted herself. She landed on the edge of the wards but that should be enough time to recover. The mecha rushed forwards and Mari realized the mistake she had made seconds before the mecha made it's move. While the bad intent wards could keep sentient creatures out and thus whoever was in the mecha couldn't get close, the mecha itself had no intent and thus could extend limbs past the wards. Mari shifted to drawing on the power of a tortoise as she felt the metal foot of the mecha impact against her sending her flying and making her feel as though her skull had gotten rattled.

All weapons opened fire on the mecha but it's shield seemed to be holding up. It stepped back before launching wave after wave of missiles at the tower. The ward were eventually knocked down much to Mari's horror. The mecha began to rush forward in triumph eager to destroy the tower. As it got close though a burst of pink light emerged and the ground under the mecha's foot crumbled in such a way so as to make it fall. Jinx had saved the tower for a little while longer but it wasn't a permanent solution. That fell to Mari.

She switched over to drawing on the power of the cheetah and ran as close as possible. This time however Jinx's spell struck before Mari arrived and the mecha's shields conveniently fizzled out right as Mari prepared to strike it. She switched to drawing on the power of the mantis shrimp and punched the mecha, the sound of her blow echoed and reverberated past the din of fighting shattering any glass that wasn't reinforced. The mecha was sent flying backwards reeling. It was then drowned in a torrent of shots from all the surviving units around Mari. The mecha, with it's hull heavily damaged by Mari's punch and its shields taken offline by Jinx was no match for the barrage as it began to fall apart. However as one last final act of spite the machine detonated killing those who had dared to get close to it and hurling shrapnel at the building. Mari avoided the worst of the blow but it was clear that this was by no means a perfect victory. While Intergang had taken heavy losses and ultimately lost the mech, they had successfully knocked down the wards to the tower and done superficial damage to it. While the losses on LexCorp's side in terms of life were relatively light with fewer than 100 people getting killed, Intergang could potentially mount a much more severe attack once they reorganized and the wards would still be down.

Gingerly, Mari trudged back to the tower to get healed. This was going to be brutal if Intergang kept up this level of determination on all fronts. She wondered how the others were doing.

Leonard Snart
Leonard had never really liked cops. He had nothing against most of them, they were generally people trying to make ends meet but as someone who'd been on the other side of the law, he never really could get comfortable o fully trust a cop. As such going out and saving a bunch of them felt really weird to say the least.

It wasn't part of the plan by any means. Leonard got assigned to help out the people in STAR labs and so he did his job. He sent in the drones to search for hostiles and civilians. Identified them and promptly gotten the drop on Intergang and had his men murder all of the poor bastards dumb enough to try this shit. It must have looked beyond bizarre to those who saw it from the outside. A bunch of maniacs with crazy sci-fi tech got ganked by another group with even crazier sci-fi tech. Mick probably wasn't helping that impression. Leonard knew of Mick's issues with fire and this sort of situation where people gave Mick a flamethrower and license to rampage was not good for him and he'd spent the fight acting deranged and delirious. As such Leonard tried not to take it personally when one of the cops shot at him before he could explain that he was on their side. Fucking supersuits looked too goddamn ominous. And so Leonard stepped out of his suit and spoke to both the redheaded woman in charge of STAR Labs, although only because the real head apparently had the greatest timing on when to take a vacation, and the policeman in charge of all the others.

Leonard didn't like Aaron Jase at all. The man was stubborn and bullheaded and a fucking pain in the ass. Still Leonard did his best to make sure that heading back to LexCorp tower was the right play for the civilians and that the police might want to get some better gear before heading back out into the thick of things. Still the cop had a point that there needed to be someone left to guard whatever was at STAR Labs to ensure that Intergang didn't steal it but Leonard wasn't really interested in prioritizing things over people. Honestly if it was safe and he could get away with it he'd have asked Mick to burn it all down.

But that would probably piss off the man in charge and Mick didn't need an excuse to set more fires and indulge his worst habits. Leonard called Mick and ordered him to take the civillains and the cops back to LexCorp tower. hopefully some time away from fighting would help Mick get his head screwed on straight for a little while longer so that Leonard wouldn't have to improvise to save his ass later down the line. So far everything was proceeding smoothly on his end and working out according to plan. The last thing he needed right now was to have his friend have a mental breakdown in the middle of this whole mess.

Leonard sighed. It looked like this was going to be a really long day. He then started barking out orders to ensure that everyone under his command would make it out of this alive.

Oswald Loomis
Oswald hated Intergang. They were a bunch of upjumped thugs taking advantage of others in order to satisfy their own frail egos. As such when he got told to head to Metropolis General Hospital he feared for the worst. He wouldn't put it past Intergang to try and kill everyone at the hospital as an act of malice. He rushed over eager to do his part in helping keep people safe.

However by the time he got there it appeared the battle had already been won. The police were keeping an effective perimeter around the hospital and Intergang hadn't made a move yet to harm the people there. As such the presence of LexCorp forces present in the area was unnecessary. Oswald thus stuck mostly to doing community outreach during this time. He also spoke to the police officers on the scene.

The police officers were grateful for the help but they had no intention of not guarding the hospital even if for a little while. They were going to hold the line no matter what came. Oswald couldn't fully fault them for their stance, they were just doing their jobs and being dedicated to their duty, even if he found it a bit foolish not to go and get better equipment. Still it wasn't his place to judge and he decided not to push it any further.

As Oswald made the rounds once more he hoped that Intergang was going to suffer for this brazen outrage of an attack.

Katherine Kane
Katherine was nervous. Really, really nervous. It wasn't the combat, although the fact that it was happening in an American city was weird, or that she was put in charge of others, after all she had trained for those things. No it was more the fact that she was in charge of her girlfriend and taking her to an active combat zone. That was more than enough to be a little weird. Pamela might have had powers that could turn the tide in a battle but she was still ultimately a civilian with next to no actual combat experience. And Katherine, her CO for this operation was her girlfriend. That tangled the chain of command so much and Katherine couldn't help but worry if Pamela would be safe and alright throughout all of this and fretted over things even though she shouldn't have. Still Pamela volunteered for this and Katherine already knew better than to try and dissuade the woman she loved from getting invested in a cause. She just had to ensure that this operation went perfectly so that they could both make it back from this alright.

Katherine's squad was sent over to clear Intergang out of Centennial Park of any Intergang forces that might be in there. As such the first thing she had to do was scout out the area. She sent in the automated drones to get a better view of what enemy forces were like in the area. A large amount of the drones were shot down but a pretty clear picture emerged. The majority of the hostiles in the area were powered armor units with a single alien-tech vehicle of some kind sitting in the middle of the park. The vehicle must have had some kind of detection system in it since as the drones got closer to it, they were shot down in higher numbers. Correlation didn't mean causation but the battlefield required snap judgements and a radar of some kind was the simplest way to explain why the rate of drones getting shot down rose as they flew closer to the vehicle.

Katherine tensed. It was time to move in and take down the enemy. Katherine had done all she could. She gazed to Pamela who squeezed her hand reassuringly and let her know everything would be fine. No time for second thoughts now was the time for battle. And with that Katherine ordered the attack.

Pamela Isely
Pamela was practically giddy once the attack commenced. Finally she had the chance to slaughter all of those who dared to get in LexCorp's way! She'd been furious when she heard of what Intergang had done, and had already hated them for a long time for what they'd already done to stifle LexCorp's progress in saving the world, now she was given free reign to crush them all and unleash Mother Earth's vengeance upon all those who dared to stand in their way. When Lex had offered her this chance to not only prove herself but also exercise her power on Intergang she had leapt at the chance. Katherine had initially been worried but Pamela reassured her that she could handle it. She had her powers for a reason and she would use them to defend her home. Lex had pulled Pamela aside and told her to capture them if possible and she aimed to deliver but Pamela was sure he wouldn't mind if she indulged herself a little when she destroyed them completely and utterly. And so when Katherine gave the order she was happy to finally let loose.

Shots fired and people fell as Pamela readied herself, Katherine stuck close to Pamela, eager to protect her which caused an odd fluttering feeling down in Pamela's stomach. Then Pamela let loose. The battle was practically over before it began. Tides of roots and vines strangled, tangled and impaled Intergang forces in a flurry of motion. The grass rose up and tied down any one who touched the ground, those unlucky enough to have fallen being swallowed up and cocooned entirely. Pamela was in tune with the earth and unleashed her vengeance in full. She could see everything and there would be nowhere for those who dared to stand against her to run and hide.

Pamela hummed a an odd little tune as she continued to bring down the opposing forces. Nature itself had found them wanting and would deliver righteous vengeance. She expanded and extended more roots from down below and firmly held the blighted vehicle Intergang was using as a rallying point in place, locking it down and letting them all know that this was the end. A short man, with ugly green spectacles jumped out of the vehicle and put on a jetpack of some kind. At the sight of their leader preparing to flee, the remaining members of Intergang broke and ran. Pamela smiled. There would be no escape.

Plants shot out and grabbed whoever she could afford to divert her attention to while Katherine and the troops under her command focused on catching those who slipped her net. Pamela's attention though was focused on the little rat trying to fly away from her. He was clearly important, and so he was going to spill his guts literally and metaphorically. He'd pay for his impudence. A massive tree shot out of the center of Centennial Park, it's branches reaching and grasping for the little fleeing pest. He promptly pulled out an energy knife of some kind and started cutting anything that succeeded in grasping him. Still Pamela had what she wanted when she locked him in place.

Flowers bloomed all along the tree in a magnificent pink and yellow color. This plant didn't exist in nature but Pamela knw how to make it and just how it would take down the flying pest. The flowers promptly released their payloads spurting a gas that would put people to sleep. The ugly little man breathed in the gas and promptly became woozy before he succeeded in putting on a gas mask. By that point though it was too late as Pamela had succeeded in having him fully encased by the tree. She brought the plant down and ripped the mask off making sure to douse him with so many pheromones he would believe up was down if someone told him that in his current state. Pamela didn't do much beyond asking for his name. Thaddeus Killgrave was going to be transported alongside the rest of the captured prisoners back to LexCorp and then promptly interrogated.

Pamela smiled happily. Katherine was still with her asking her if she needed anything. Pamela let her know that everything had gone perfectly thanks to her planning. She was so happy she could do her part and bring down those foolish enough to challenge LexCorp. Everything had gone perfectly.

William Helm
Will was terrified. He knew he shouldn't be but he was. As one of the many scouting forces sent out to look for Intergang forces he was at risk. He had the best armor in the world courtesy of LexCorp, was driving around in a state of the art stealth vehicle, and for the most part things had gone well. The forces sent to Park Ridge confirmed that there was little to no Intergang presence there outside of the forces massed at Centennial Park, the forces in Bakerline all melted away once they saw how many police officers were guarding the building. St. Martin's Island had a large amount of forces concentrated there that was avoided with the harbor being relatively clean but risky to keep investigating. No it was here in Hobb's Gate that things were terrifying.

At first they had gone in and encountered no resistance. The expeditionary force to the Suicide Slums had gone in. Then one by one people started to disappear and things started to go wrong. However it was too late to retreat just yet since they didn't know what was happening. The Suicide SLums force had all but disappeared in a matter of minutes. It was safest to assume they were dead. And now Will was terrified that they were next. He and his squad stuck close to the buildings making sure to check every corner to try and find signs of Intergang. Something was slowly picking off the drones one at a time but they had no visual confirmation of just what was going on.

As they rounded the corner Will heard an odd tone like a phone that had been disconnected. And then fire bloomed and tore through everything. The world went white and all sound faded to a distinct violent ringing. Will Helm screamed as everything went to black.

When Will came to again he heard broken up sounds of talking. It wasn't in English but he couldn't place the language. It was so dark and he was covered in rubble. Slowly he clawed his way out and saw Intergang forces assembled picking through the dead with the leader apparently saying things in the foreign language. He coughed, the dust had gotten into his lungs and before he could recover something was already upon him. It tore out his throat before he could react.

As he lay there dying Will Helm spotted the thing that had killed him. An orange furred cat-man of all things. He was sure he was delirious from dying and having a building dropped on him. He tried to laugh but all that came out was a wet gurgle. The cat-man began to bark out orders in rapid fire as the Intergang forces readied themselves again. He couldn't make out much of what the cat-man said but "Aro de Fuego was mentioned". As Will Helm lay dying Hobb's Gate burned.

Felicity Smoak
Things were hectic in LexCorp tower as even the people not fighting were rushing about desperate to get things done. Felicity had never expected anything like this when she had first gone to LexCorp and what stunned her was how quickly everyone got onto a footing for battle.

Scudder was coordinating dozens of cameras and drones to establish a thorough understanding of what was going on and had pretty much stopped making any jokes or comments not related to the ongoing battle. Marie had moved into what remained of Ivo's old lab to stay safe and not draw resources from elsewhere as she prepared to release press statements. Lucy was either on the phone yelling and talking to various members of the military she knew or coordinating amongst civilians in the tower as to how to keep things open and safe. Carl was going around the entire building and ensuring everything was safe and secure while keeping the forces left behind to protect the tower fresh and ready to fight. Felicity wondered how the man felt considering the fact that his daughter was in the tower as well. It wasn't easy and she hoped that it would spur him to do his job better rather than drive him to distraction. Rebecca, Cerise and Jinx were off doing something in Rebecca's lab and Caitlin and Louise were in their lab also working on something. Throughout it all Lex commanded everything from the central hub of activity in the building, Cassandra standing beside him looking keyed up and nervous. Felicity went back to her own task.

No matter what she did she couldn't figure out how Intergang was communicating and coordinating with one another. It was immensely frustrating to feel so useless as things went down.

Still at least things were going in their favor. While some of the defenses had been knocked down the first of the giant robots had been destroyed and Intergang had been firmly beaten in nearly every engagement. City Hall was secure, the general hospital had been kept safe, Intergang had been routed from New Troy and Centennial Park and there had been little reported activity in the Queensland Borough. Considering that the greatest losses occurred near the Daily Planet, and that they'd gone pretty even, succeeded in damaging one of the massive machines Intergang was using as the backbone of their attack and rescued some of the hostages things were pretty clearly in LexCorp's favor.

Not everything was perfect, the giant robots Intergang was using had succeeded in destroying all of the entrances into and out of Metropolis and the one by the I-97 had succeeded in turning a barrage of missile strikes into its own advantage by opening up a portal to redirect them into the road. There was also a contingent of Intergang forces massed around the west end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge who promptly blew up the bridge from a distance. There were not forces massed on the other side at least. Spy drone distribution in the rest of the city was spotty and though Scudder did his best it was often spotty and full of gaps, especially since any unit seen would be promptly destroyed. The forces sent to Hobbs Gate and the Suicide Slums were wiped out to the man and they weren't quite sure what was going on there since the whole borough was now on fire.

"We've confirmed that one of the men captured by Ms. Kane's unit was, Thadddeus Killgrave" Lucy's voice boomed out over the intercom "We've also had Nygma suggest that Bruno Manneheim is likely in one of the large machines attacking the city. This is not a confirmation of the fact but it is something to keep in mind. Army forces are en route and while they cannot deploy their full force with most of the roads destroyed they will be arriving to assist. Thank you for your patience and your courage in this trying time"

Felicity internally cheered at the good news but she did wonder how Nygma figured things out considering he wasn't in Metropolis right now. She figured she could leave the mystery to be solved another day. The intercom blared once more and Felicity was called in to meet with Lex Luthor. As she entered the room she saw Meena, Caitlin and Rebecca already sitting at one of the long conference tables. Felicity grabbed a seat and noticed Nygma's smug face on a computer screen and Cassandra sitting in the back of the room with a pair of guards. Apparently Nygma managed to figure things out through video chat somehow and that's how he was contributing. A phone lay on the desk which was probably so Mercy could communicate what was happening on the ground and be informed of any changes in grand strategy. As Lucy Lane stepped into the room and grabbed a seat, Lex began to speak.

"Cerise has confirmed Edward's suspicions" Lex announced as the man in the bowler hat crowed "He is indeed in one of the large machines attacking the city, specifically the one that had the capability to open up portals"

Well that was a mixed bag of news but at least now they knew what was going on. Lex though turned to Rebecca.

"How soon can you get the defenses back up?" Lex questioned. Rebecca shrunk in on herself a bit.

"Not soon enough to matter without risking myself in the process" She bitterly admitted "I've prioritized ensuring that healing is up fast so that any units not killed will be back up in fighting shape as soon as possible. I've already treated all of the forces injured in preventing the attack on the tower and am ready to heal anyone else who arrives at the tower."

Lex Luthor looked contemplative at the news before continuing on to address the next person at the table.

"How goes your work?" Lex asked Caitlin.

"I've got good news and bad news" Caitlin admitted nervously "We've got a way to turn the Cold Engine into a bomb that can potentially bring down one of those big machines in a single strike. The problem is it will destroy all our work on the cold engine and we need some time to make it mobile. "

"Speaking of bombs" Meena interrupted "I was kind of bored with arrangements and was thinking, because I can't help but think, and my mind went racing and I may have found a way to use and kryptonite batteries we've got as makeshift bombs. They'd put us behind schedule but we could use them for something".

"Both your points are noted" Lex responded "Lucy how are things going with others?"

"Eiling's mad as hell" Lucy said "He's pissed and doing everything in his power to ensure that as much force as possible gets brought down on Intergang. The rest of Washington is getting things in order to possibly move even more forces into responding to this. Director Prince stated that this didn't fall under her scope quite yet but did say that ARGUS was mobilizing to deal with things. City Hall is secure for now and we've got some members of the police willing to follow our lead but the chain of command has been shattered to an extent and some of them are still out of contact with the rest of the force"

And then Lex turned to Felicity and she was forced to let him know that she hadn't yet succeeded in doing anything quite yet. Lex mulled things over before accepting it.

"What are the orders?" Mercy's voice said from over the phone.

"Here's the plan" Lex stated as he gave out his orders for what to do next.

not sure i want to make ether of this things a bomb to be honest but if i had to pick i take the cold engine
On one hand, getting experience making kryptonite bombs before Superman's even properly debuted would be nice.

On the other, we're trying to market it (and the Cold Engine, maybe?) as clean energy and people tend to be leery about power sources that double as bombs.

Okay it's probably in our best interest to remove Mick from combat. His bad PR for the company. He might also snap and go crazy which could be a problem.

So what's our game plan?
