We need those kryptonite power plants. With the cold engine it becomes a question of why use kryptonite for anything? Once it becomes known superman is weak to it then they'd ask why not use the cold engine it's better anyway.
Edit: Let's do it the American way, infinite energy means big bomb.
Dang, I just know the Cold Engine is a ridiculous boost even if we can't make Frost Metas. I think we should do a lot more with Research Cold to really capitalize on this, it'd be so much easier to make Leonard his Cold Gun. Heck, throw in Exo-Suit research and Costume development as well, I absolutely want us to have sweet ice-themed Super Suits.
@King crimson: In hypothetical terms, how much would Cold Engine and Nanomachines together do? Cause Nanomachines feel like the only thing we could really do to supplement the Cold Engine tech.

The Cold Engine is much more fail deadly than kryptonite, so I'm sure we'll be able to keep kryptonite relevant in the consumer market until wireless charging reaches the point where things don't need onboard power sources.
I hope the US government doesn't think we're getting too friendly with Japan. They might cut back evolvement in top secret things if they think we're in bed with the Japanese.

Again, Kryptonite isn't really a power creation technology. It's a power storage and transport technology. The Cold Engine doesn't render Kryptonite obsolete for this. It's actually the thing that makes it long-term possible to expand kryptonite usage for commercial power past more than one or vanity projects.
Not yet. First, we'd want to do that miniaturization thing that QM said was so very useful. Also, we'd want to see if we could bring back Ivo for it (possibly with an appropriate shackle). His trait set is still fantastically useful for the AMAZO project, especially if we can crank the DC down that hard.
This is incredible for us, not only is Roxy's Martial now 42 when she's using her new jet and Rose now even more useful on Martial actions but Roxy and Lex's co-op score is now 1.9
This went better than could possibly have been expected, Carol went from a mid tier superhero to being up their with Superman while also arresting a major villain in Hal's hometown, not to mention the Martial boost
Very nice to have more influence over Japan and get a good first impression with Kimiyo and I'm looking forward to seeing our options for our representative on the committee
Also this reminded me that the Tokyo Troopers are actually Brushogun creations themselves
Very nice and I don't see a reason to say no, hell we could use someone musically inclined to break into that industry, she might event get on with Leslie Willis!
Though I'm unsure why she wants a cell but I'm sure Carl can design her a nice secure one
Very nice, it's a little unfortunate that people have noticed how involved we are with this law but between Carol and our pro metahuman stance I doubt people will find it that suspicious
technically you don't necessarily have the Cold Engine now, you can delay it's completion by a few turns in exchange for a different bonus. You'll still get the Cold Engine it'll just be on a time delay and not immediately available
I'm probably going to change the trait to "all learning actions and all actions related to biology" to make him more in line with what I envisioned him as as well as giving him a bonus of some kind when put on biology actions (probably something like "+10 at the end of calculation") to bring him more in line with his intended design.
May I suggest that it's guaranteed not to fire on actions that sate his sadistic impulses? After all something like experimenting on prisoners or testing the Bone Growth Formula are straight up his alley
[ ] Learn from the Project Atom data
DC 67 Project Atom is a government attempt to make a nuclear powered super soldier the likes of which the world has never seen. Learning from the Project Atom data General Eiling has sent you could help get you the capability to create this for yourself. You have reached near the end of the capabilities of what you can achieve without access to the alien engine used by General Eiling
We just need to learn what to do to substitute our cold engine for the alien engine Eiling was using. Its also something that could go with our particle collider to make metahumans that way. Though hopefully we'll benefit from the knowledge and our resources, the DC for Eiling to make Captain Atom was 333.
The trait was meant to make it so that Dr. Moon was unstable and on certain actions that didn't play to his mad scientist skillset he'd go off and cause problems making him a liability at times. The issue is that the trait as it currently exists kind of encourages people to completely ignore both the surgeon aspect of his character by not putting him on anything biological due to the risk and completely cuts out his mad scientist aspect as he's completely stable whenever you pointedly don't use the guy whose meant to be used for bio actions for bio actions. I'm probably going to change the trait to "all learning actions and all actions related to biology" to make him more in line with what I envisioned him as as well as giving him a bonus of some kind when put on biology actions (probably something like "+10 at the end of calculation") to bring him more in line with his intended design.
I think that's a good change for his intended design. Also to make it worth adding the +X to biology actions is probably needed. The one hole I see is his good intrigue. I would make a behind the scenes change where he becomes dissatisfied easily if put on an intrigue action that doesn't help his mad science. That would force us to use him for his intended purpose more and not just transition to making him an intrigue hero.
Quite the contrary. We use a centralized Cold Engine to refuel Kryptonite mega-batteries, and then ship those mega-batteries out to the various power plants. From what I can see, Kryptonite plants are going to be a lot easier to manage than Cold Engine.
I hope the US government doesn't think we're getting too friendly with Japan. They might cut back evolvement in top secret things if they think we're in bed with the Japanese.
Nah, If Japan and USA in quest are anything like they are in IRL then this may be seen as just one opportunity to the US to expand their influence and make more money!
Personally, I'm thinking Bialya. If we get Queen Bee's support (which should be quite doable) it should be nice and easy... and it would open up a number of nice options for interacting with her.
Admittedly, I'm not super-enthused about Queen Bee in the abstract, but if we're going to do it, we ought to do it right.
On the Matter of Moon... I'm not sure how you're going to frob the points budget, but it feels like he ought to be generally better at Horrible Biological Science than most other things. Like, he's made a study of torture. This is horrible, but it's also an occasionally useful job skill that very few other people have.

Sigh, I remember the idea of taking over Zambesi and making it into a nation of Plant Metas to fuel the development of Botany and Food... though we probably could pull something similar off if we win Queen Bee over. Having a farming/research population of Plant Metas sounds like something she'd go for. I really do think our Botany/Plant Meta/Green Research should get more focus. We just revolutionized power in a dramatic fashion, why not the Food Industry next? Though we really should make the next L-Phone model, WayneTech keeps trying to catch up and that action seems to be taken more as a reactionary response.

I believe that our "reactionary response" plan on the L-Phone has pretty much broken the back of Wayne's resistance on the matter. Like, he could try... but he knows we'll just respond by destroying him again, so why bother?
I can totally see turning a chunk of Bialya into a plant-meta megafarm, though. That would be cool, and potentially worth pursuing.
Well done folks. Physics has successfully been kicked in the balls in such a way where it can't be explained. Any normal scientist or really anyone with knowledge in the now disproven theories of Newton will have an aneurysm upon observing a Cold Engine.

Funnily enough, they did team up against Supergirl and Flash in the CW show.
On the topic of Queen Bee, we should put either kryptonite power plant or Cold Engine in Vlatava and Bialya. It will make us closer to our allies, plus improve people's lives.

Other's have mentioned a few reasons that do work (like it being more fail deadly or the fact that kryptonite is arguable more of a power storage and transport technology than a power creation technology) but one thing I haven't seen mentioned that I figured I could point out for an advantage of kryptonite over cold engine empowerment is just size. You can easily make fairly small kryptonite batteries and power sources. A cold engine at bare minimum is too big to be used in an eighteen wheeler truck as a power source.
Technically Coast City is Carol's hometown as well (it's where she lives and where she grew up) she just made her superheroic debut in Metropolis because Lex specifically wanted to set her up to be comparable and potentially in contention with Superman.
I did consider it and at one point it was even something I thought to include in the subvote. That being said as I mulled it over, it made more sense for me to distribute rewards in other places as Louise is exactly the kind of character who wouldn't be grateful for the help as she'd recontextualize it as you not actually helping her or the completion of her life's work as something that was owed to her. There were rewards I felt would be more interesting and dynamic and Louise is kind of a terrible enough person to justify no better coop score in spite of all you've done for her.

I'm trying to figure out just what kind of boost is needed and to what degree (I know +5 is too low and +25 is too high so the final boost to biology actions will likely land somewhere in that range).
As for the intrigue stat being a potential hole in the design, that is true but I don't want to pigeonhole him into a role just yet. Sometimes you guys do things in ways I don't fully expect that I really like and think add a lot to gameplay like when the thread turned a trait on Mercy that was designed to make her work really well with Lex (and it does to some degree) to instead make Mercy a hero unit that sort of supervises more wildcard individuals like Rose. On top of that hero units who can do more than one thing tend to be a lot more fun design wise and play wise and I've generally tried to leave all hero units at least two paths they can take (even heavily restricted units like Nygma can still be used as a researcher or as a thief/saboteur). I do want to make Dr. Moon more of an erratic mad science unit but at the same time I want to leave him with a secondary option for use so that plans on how to use him can be a bit flexible. I'll be considering that angle as well though.

I personally love the bit that our new assassin/bodyguard and Dr Moon are an intrigue power team, even if we haven't really had cause to use them much for that yet, and I'd hate to lose it.
I don't have an exact number to give but I place it loosely between the dimensions of a Volkswagen Beetle and three elephants standing next to each other (that's the min and the max assuming I'm remembering my sizes correctly). It's big enough that you can use it to power buildings but it's pretty inconvenient if you don't have space for it and isn't at all easy to move around. The exact numbers will be determined later but I'm currently leaning on having the number come down on the larger size (closer to three elephants than the Volkswagen Beetle)
[ ] Develop a Cold Engine

It has been done! Somehow incredibly the Cold Engine will be completed by the end of the year. You've effectively managed to create a perpetual motion machine that when sufficiently upscaled could solve all energy problems for humanity for eons to come. The resulting Cold Engine will be dangerous to be directly exposed to and somewhat volatile when damaged but no more so than a nuclear power plant might be. The result is absolutely stupendous and might allow you to catapult the human race into a hitherto unmatched age of progress. The size of the Cold Engine does present some restrictions but it still is a potential source of infinite energy if correctly upscaled. The future is yours to claim and Louise Lincoln and Caitlin Snow have just handed you the keys to it. You'll obviously have to make sure they are properly compensated as well as make sure that they stay with LexCorp long enough for you to truly exploit this to your own advantage but for now you can remain satisfied knowing that you've managed to effectively overturn the status quo in a way that likely won't ever be matched.
Results: Cold Enigne Completion subvote, any alien with an interest in technology or power will now want the Cold Engine
Good news. Space Travel is now possible since we can now accelerate stuff to light speed. And theoretically the Cold Engine would solve many of the issues with the alcubierre drive so even faster than light is in our theoretical reach.
Bad news, aliens. Since that definition of interest is so broad that basically means every single one. But yeah Brainiac in particular.
Well... maybe. Depends on a few things, really.
- Is he going to ask nicely, or is he just going to try to take it?
- Do we even let him know?
- Can we take him?
I mean, being able to take down Brainiac and, say, salvage his ship? That would be all sorts of valuable.
