FATHER QUEST - A Cartoon Network: Villains Victorious CK2-Style Quest Cross Over

Here's a couple more cameos.
Lowering the volume, you took a second to gather what this loudmouth's deal was. The shouting guy has the name "Will Harangue" floating over his desk.
Ben 10 character. Typical talking head parody except he's secretly and alien and built a robot to fight Ben at one point. He's almost definitely in someone's pocket.
"Alright, we've got our first caller for the night. FrymanTruth, you are on the air with Will Harangue, on Harangue Nation.
This is Ronaldo Fryman from Steven Universe. Seems some Beach City inhabitants were able to avoid getting caught up in the gem invasion.
The screen changed again, this time to a tall, thin, pale man with white hair and a garish pink and white suit. He sat in an office, liberally applying sunscreen, and he spoke with a terrible Jersey-filled accent. The banner introduced him as Mr. White.
At first I thought this was the Johnny Test character but that Mr. White is famously, black. Anyone familiar with this guy?
Welcome to ACTION NEWS! This is Dynamite Watkins with Action News 52
Dynamite is from OK KO. She has powers but they only work if she has eyes on her apparently. I was expecting them to just be martial arts but they're more interesting than that:
  • Devastating SPIN!: skews the facts towards whatever will get her the most ratings.
  • Microphone Blast: forces the recipient to tell the truth.
Neat! I also definitely want to recruit Izzy. Did we ever come to any sort of consensus on which magic user we were going with? I'm personally leaning towards Orpheus over just because a lot of his personal problems are less drastic than Hex's, he's got a good variety of minor powers and necromancy, he's on theme for our brand (he calls soda tonic! He's dressed like a 50's smoking ad!) and he just seems like a bro. Some potential problems for him could be the Monarch (they seem to get along though), his patron having some conflicts relating to the underworld or him being targeted by people looking to revive the dead.

As for Hex he also has very versatile magic seemingly with more options than Orpheus. Depending on the point in the timeline he also has a magic library that greatly enhances magic while he's inside it. The problem with him is that we take the gamble of either recruiting an abusive asshole or his more mellow persona once he's realized the error of his ways. Either way with him we're almost certain the attract Charm's attention because even after he's redeemed she wanted his power by turning him into a marketable plushie totem.

Its pretty mixed between the two. Orpheus big disadvantage is that hes a hero, and Father likely will do some objectable things, while Hex has a like, 12% chance to be a dick and when Charmcaster shows up might piss her off.

I think Hex might be slightly winning do to the fact if its even in Alien Force he could trigger some good character development for Father.

Interested in where you got that 12% number lol. Orpheus being a hero is not really a disadvantage when you consider he was content to hang with the wide variety of of amoral Venture Bros characters. He believes in doing the correct thing, but draws the line at "machine powered by orphan heart" not
constantly cloning your dead sons.

But I think you're right that both are pretty viable. They have interesting plot potential at the very least.

The 12% is moreso a low random number since really, as long as it isn't Classic Series Hex, he would be an amazing employee. And I don't think it's Classic Hex since Charmcaster has gotten to become the settings Arch-Mage and more importantly, Will is here.

Both are interesting choices with ups and downs. I do think we would have to worry about our actions when dealing with Orpheus since he is one of the nicer Venture Bros characters and we tend to do actual supervillainy targeting kids; but its not like Doofquest LOVEMUFFIN Loyalty Management. It's managable.

Honestly, Orpheus has a major advantage with being a necromancer. We know multiple groups basically use and rely on the underworld so having someone presumably skilled on that front should be a fairly large bonus.

...isn't him being a Necromancer just something he says he is because it sounds cool?

DIT: Ah apparantly he can raise the dead.

Still think hex is better do to being more versatile. necromancy is nice, but trying to out Necromancy the person with a portal of the afterlife sounds... hubristic.

TBH if we do get multiple hires a turn I wouldn't mind just nabbing em both and Izzy.

Can we even hire both of the mages? They seemed to not be willing to work together so I thought we only could hire one of them.
I imagine it would probably cause at least a loyalty issue, though we can work on that at least. If we can't then we do need to vote to decide.

If possible I say we recruit both and deal with the consequences, if not it will probably come down to whichever plan has the guy who wins.

Yeah I think that's pretty major signposting that we can't have both. If the GM's give tips I intend to listen to them.
Edit; I don't think it's an "you absolutely can't do this" so much as it's a "you can do this with consequences or complications". I think it's better to make risky choices a bit further into play once we are more established.

Why is the Hex being a dick early on in his development such a sticking point? Father is objectively just worse. At literally every single point.

He was casually as bad to his kids as Hex was to Charmcaster on bad days, possibly worse since I don't remember Hex ever making odd pushes toward cannibalism every now and again.

Hex, at his worst, could not make Father at his best a worse person. Hilarious, but terribly sad honestly.

But Hex who's started making that change away from that? Oh boy, now that's a character who's actually, if not majorly, able to somewhat relate to Father. That's good for the ol development.

It'a being pragmatic tbh. Father's kids are not a King with an army of mages. Charmcaster was driven to vaillainy by Hex and aside from the death of her father Hex is one of her main sources of angst. Not saying this isn't a problem we can overcome (Charm seems to be somewhat conflicted over being a villain) but it's something we have to acknowledge in our decision making. She's almost certainly gonna be gunning for him at some point, and has the power to be a real threat.

Charmcaster won't be a direct threat for a good long while. She is in the Middle East right now which we have no contact with. We can prepare for it when we get there.

She also has to deal with Demons, Cryptids, Furries, Sky Pirates, and EVOs constantly attacking her lands as well.

Yes but she should already have most of the artifacts she'd actually want from Hex (might not carry over to Quest but her doc blurb does directly noted her possession of the staff of ages, the only artifact I actually remember her attacking him over) so if she does come to call it's either a personal visit (which might help solve things as long as she doesn't kill him) or she's here to find more sources of magic to stabilize herself (in which we aren't safe either since Father is also magical, though that's also doc blurb).

These are all good points.

Another difference between Hex and Orpheus is Hex's specialty is, instead of necromancy, artifacts.

He would do the search for magical artefacts action far better then Orpheus would since it's his main deal. He also is canonically a pretty good teacher; so if we ever want Father to get higher Occult Hex could teach him.

Realistically either is good for what we seem to need at the moment. A knowledgeable occult aficionado capable of helping Father get a grasp on what's happening magically and get to the bottom of Father's own mysterious and likely occult nature. It's mostly just a matter of preference from there.

But as a show of my support for Hex I'll add this; Both have their specialties. I do not know Dr. Orpheus but seemingly his is Necromancy from what I can gather. But well, what need does Father have for a necromancer? The only person in Father's life that we know is dead is Grandfather, and seriously fuck that dude. He might be somewhat helpful against or with necromantic or underworld things though I admit.
On the other hand, Hex's speciality is (to the best of my memory) artifacts and the magical style of Legerdomain. Nearly every episode involving him was either centered around or involved magical artifacts. And if I'm honest? I like the idea of having magical artifacts we can use to empower folks. Also we know he goes on to become a fairly beloved professor of magic once his character development is done so he's got the spark for teaching.

Well, while he is a capable necromancer in both the classic and common-parlance senses of the word (IE speaking to the dead and raising the dead), he clarifies that the actual magic of necromancy isn't his preferred practice. He chose the title because it sounds cool, mostly. Marketing, am I right? That said, while he doesn't do it on-screen, save for a failed attempt, he boasts that he regularly performed resurrections on both David Blaine and Evel Knievel (also Ronald Reagan, until he bounced a check).

Magical artifacts could be very good, especially to boost our already highly loyal hero units, especially toiletnator.

That is, genuinely unfortunate. What is his specialty then?

Thats good to know, what would you consider Orpheus' Specialty?

Since both from what I can remember and look up, it seems like hes mostly a jack of all trade wizard. I feel he might be better on Quest, but Hex is the better choice for Nationals.

Geniuley unclear, as both a Doctor Strange Expy and the show's all-purpose magic guy, he does a lot of stuff. Resurrection, shapeshifting, invisibility, illusory powers, teleportation, offensive magic, telekinesis...It's not clear what his actual speciality is.

(It's also possible the reason he stops doing actual Necromancy past season 3 is because that's the point Venture Bros starts actually playing for keeps with the concept of death. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the QM just does go for necromancy, dispense with the hassle.)
