Its the kind of mentality that results in most stories in a (comical for viewers) situations where the "silly knights" go a N'th time to slay the "evil wizard", only to get their clothes and armor blown off by a gust of wind.
Comical and good.
Except they always come back. Or if finitely killed, are replaced by a new group.
Because nobody learns better as the scope of abilities against them, makes them disregard the danger of a confrontation and pursue it.
I was thinking about real life when America Nuked Japan at the end of WW2, Last I checked Japan has not gone and 'tried again'.

If the point of the conflict in question is to subjugate someone, and not kill him, but also ensure that he does not become a problem in the future, then defeating him on more or less equal footing would be the go to solution.
It would certainly fit Anna more to resolve it without a pointless death, even if it requires her to engage in, from her point of view, pointless sword waving.
No.
Unless Anna got her issues fixed, you get to conflict with Anna, you die. Likely messily.

Just remember melee combat has different meanings for a Valkyrie. Anna's melee Halbard has a range of ~100m after all and she is actually quite good with it:

Basically; Anna is a murder-blender regardless of which range you engage her at.
Just to back this up remember the recent update where Shuri explains a how a fight between Anna would go and Yukari is just stumped that Anna is casually so much better at melee than an Ace who specialises in it?
"You could not tell that Anna is a more powerful Valkyrie than me?" asked Shuri again, facing Yukari and actually sounding curious.

"I well, I wasn't going to make a judgement, I mean, I'm not qualified, no I couldn't really," Yukari stammered, trying and failing to find a diplomatic deflection.

Yukari wasn't asking purely out of a desire to chat, she really couldn't tell between the two who was the more powerful Valkyrie.

Both had displayed the inhuman speed and reaction times of Valkyrie Aces, nearly prescient in their actions and reactions, Impellers contorting to perform feats that Yukari had only studied theoretically. Anna had enormous firepower at long and medium ranges, but Shuri was ferocious at close and zero ranges- Wait, actually thinking about it, Yukari had never seen Anna in close range combat. At least, nothing that can be called extended close combat; that one time with the thumb flick didn't count. Also, just then, Shuri said that Anna 'cannot keep up'? Does that mean that Shuri would not want Anna in close range to her? Then…

"When you say that you would be able to keep your distance from Anna, do you mean she would hold an advantage even at close quarters?"

"Yes. Her Impeller control is lethal to close against. It might be possible for me to exchange field strength at even volumes, but Anna's capacity is much higher than mine," Shuri replies with a slight nod to herself, her eyes flicking to the side in thought.

"… how much higher?" Yukari heard herself ask faintly.

"In terms of flat field energy volume, her capacity is somewhere between half again and twice greater than mine. Taking into account her much higher control fidelity, Impeller partition property management and her expressed frame components for alternative damage mitigation, maybe six times greater or more in sustained combat."

Guess we're operating on geologic timescale in this thread, hmm? :p
Well, while time (in days) between updates can seem to have increased greatly over time, if you look at it in a logarithmic(10) graph, you'll see the difference isn't quite that important:

See, if you misread the graph (ignore the 'Days between updates' column, we're looking at the shortly named 'Log' column), you'll see the difference between update times has never been that large. See, when you look at it this way, you'll see the average time between updates is merely 1,241, and it has only been a bit over twice that long since the previous update, so, really, not that long.

In fact, we could commend Avalanche, for his Post 1 and Post 3 were, if you look at it this way, published immediately after their respsective previous posts (initial vote and Post 2). That is amazing, is it not? We could say that no time at all passed in those instances.

say, while Anna might have trouble teaching directly, couldnt she demonstrate how she would fight if she was restricted to her hypervelocity cannon and her halberd in various scenarios?

and btw. it is actually amazing that this quest still has an active discussion despite the lack of new chapters

Wouldn't really help as even then her tactics still lean heavily on advanced Impeller use and various other things that the others aren't as well equipped (or more equipped in certain area) to do. Kouji's better with asking Shuri for those particular loadout training.

Been rereading the story posts because I do that like once a year and I've got a question, possibly already been answered and I just managed to miss it while going through the QM's posts.

Why is public opinion of Shuri's abilities so inflated compared to her actual numbers?

From when we looked at her official record.

But better than Shuri? That would put her… actually thinking about, Shuri never did make her combat rating or 300 rank public after officially enlisting in the United Nations Valkyries. From the rumours, she never even bothered taking a combat aptitude test. Guesses had placed her anywhere between ranks 50 and one hundred, with her combat rating usually put somewhere in the 17,000-19,000 region at the end of her time in the Air Force of the Republic of Pakistan.

Those are some pretty big differences. Is it because of her injury, or is Yukari right in assuming that people on the internet just don't know what they're talking about?

Also because that Official record is locked behind several layers of [REDACTED] and [CLASSIFIED], and the only reason Anna got to poke at it is because her clearances are almost as obscene as her combat abilities.

So, for the most part? The general public has no fucking clue what Shuri's actual scores and position as a member of the 300 is.

Those are some pretty big differences.
Not really actually. CR is pretty close on lower estimate and difference between Upper Double Digits and Real Three Hundred is not really prominent. 50 is cutting number for reason - that's where real monsters start. Well, junior real monsters, seniors are "top 20" aka previously 1-24, now 1-25. So essentially she was eyeballed as "on the road to becoming one" - which she is, just in earlier part of said road than public think.

Both.
Note that with her loadouts, her participation against T0s means she's definitely up close and personal with them, one of which being a Class D.
Then consider that her wounds are bad enough that she still limps away instead of walking normally and an artifical eye.
Finally, consider that her wounds were not inflicted by AG.
The reason for this is the upper third of the double digits is a lot more mobile and varied in terms of ranking. Valks move into, around and out of the upper third of the double digit ranks all the time. The lower ranks from about 70 down are fairly static
From that we can guess that ranks below 70 have close enough scores that an average jump of at least 30 ranks can be expected.

And pretty much this. Other than the Genius 20 (+4!)(+Anna!), score differences are likely less than a thousand each (might be from rank 12 below rather). Heck, considering the competitive atmosphere and the flexible ranking, it might even be less than hundreds.

Might be why the 100 rankings was considered "prestigious" unlike the rest, it's also the wall where the score differences between ranks start to get to the high hundreds.

Also might have to factor for her being the broken ace instead of golden ace. Her numbers may have dropped, and people might have assumed she'd continue to get better.

Or the possibility that those are outdated numbers. There might not be data of her current skill for the system to evaluate.

Omake - FreakOTU - Birthday Present
Another wild literary hair has popped up. Again Noncanon.

Edit: Because Avalanche asked, a title.

Birthday Present.

Durga was up to something.

Anna sat in her pillowfort, freshly washed and dried from the morning's ordeal, which had also been orchestrated by her other, stable, half.

The lights were low, simulating early dawn, and the hologenerator was projecting images of a classic mountainous vista around the walls.

But, all that was ignored, for Anna's lean, rangy body had curled her knees up to her chin as she sat, eyes unfocused as she found herself in a deep 'discussion' with the nonverbal Valkyrie Core that knew her better than anything living. And, at the moment, Durga was projecting a sense of both impish humour, and teasing hints that could best be described as the Core telling Anna to 'wait and see'.

Sandra had pinged her with a message earlier, wishing her all the best; the voluminously-behaired squad lead was kind-hearted almost to a fault, but the blonde was keen enough to know that something was up; though, considering the full squad had been informed that Anna was taking the day for herself, above and beyond her usual mysterious disappearances into 'Classified' areas such as the teacher's lounge, she had expected comments from all but Koujirou. As much as he was observant and driven, there were probably neutron stars less dense than him.

Again, Anna refocused on the stubborn resistance Durga was expressing, the core having partitioned off part of its/her storage for inscrutable reasons. The total amount was, frankly, infinitesimal, but an unknown partition popping up for any reason tended to set mental alarm bells jangling, to the point that Anna was almost willing to bypass breakfast already in her willpower fight with her other half.

If one could compare the mental landscape to anything contemporary, the best analogy would be the curiosity of a kitten batting at a closed door with tuneless humming coming forth from behind the white-painted threshold.

Anna stifled a pout, partly because of the frustration involved, and mostly because she had noticed the time, which meant climbing out of the pillow fort, getting dressed, and heading to breakfast.

Still, it was an important day. Pancakes and maple syrup sounded like a lovely plan.

~O~

Durga continued to hum tunelessly; it was a challenge fabricating something like this without a dedicated fabricator integrated into her storage system, but it would be worth the effort. The core recalled the moment with perfect clarity, of the day Anna Sanchez, Eight years old and grinning like a loon, took to the air in front of her parents.

- Anna Sanchez, stop that flying foolishness right this moment! -

Oh come on mom! Just a little longer?

- Well... Okay. -

Omake - MiddleTwin - Since when were you under the Impression that I ate only bread?
Garbage omake time:
Videos of various things that are often cute but sometimes rather scary

XxXxXxXxXx
As you approach the classroom where the elective is held, you realize that the door is open and you can hear voices coming from inside. You can't see the people involved and don't want to blast them with an invasive scan, so you give them mental labels as you approach.

PERSON 1: --made a video that I want to show you guys.

PERSON 2: I dunno <NAME DISCARDED AS IRRELEVANT-PERSON 1 ALREADY HAS A UNIQUE IDENTIFIER> - You know that we're only supposed to watch videos of things that are "often cute but sometimes rather scary". Are you sure this qualifies?

PERSON 1: Totally. Here, check this out.

Electronic music plays for a bit, masking the sounds of your footsteps as you walk inside. On a TV screen mounted to the far wall is an image you recognize as a 'bread chan' meme. As you watch, the image grows fuzzy and refocuses into a different meme with the same template.

PERSON 3: This is literally a meme montage with a soundtrack. I don't think it qualifies as a video at all.

PERSON 1: Waitwaitwait isn't it cute?

PERSON 2: I guess? Not really scary, though. Also I don't think that a meme montage is really a video either.

At this point, you can match the voices to their positions in the room. PERSON 1 is standing right in front of the door, facing the monitor. PERSONS 2 and 3 are standing slightly forward and to either side, also staring at the monitor.

PERSON 1: Just keep watching for a little bit longer. There are two scary parts, and it's almost to the first one.

The audio suddenly stops as the video cuts to clip of Durga, hovering in the sky with black mist swirling around it. A barrage of lasers suddenly impacts the frame, but deal no visible damage. A large blinking 'rewind' icon appears in the upper left corner of the screen, and there is a terribly photoshopped reversed animation of the lasers apparently turning into slices of rye bread before being eaten by a large mouth made of mist. A subtitle says "OMNOMNOM I'M A EATING MY BREADLASERS". The video ends.

PERSON 2: OK, that part where her frame is immune to laser fire is legitimately a little scary, but I think the video is a little too memey for my taste.

PERSON 3: What was the other scary part?

PERSONS 2 and 3 both turn to look at PERSON 1 and freeze as they meet your gaze. PERSON 1 starts speaking, oblivious.

PERSON 1: So you both know that Bread-Chan is kinda obsessed with alphabetical order, right? A while back people noticed that she was also visiting clubs in alphabetical order, and we're next! It's a meta-scare, those are the best! Why are you guys staring at me like that? Breaking the fourth wall is a totally legitimate technique, especially in horro-Oh shit she's right behind me isn't she?

As you walk away, you realize that you're not sure of what you should do next. Normally you would simply head to the next club on the list, but this was the last.

XxXxXxXxXx

I'm kinda wondering how deep into the internet Anna has bothered to look yet.

Like, I'm pretty sure most of use subconsciously fence ourselves off from actively looking at anything too sketchy, but if you didn't bother, it wouldn't actually take long to get some really really weird returns.
There is stuff on the internet. This is both a good and bad thing.
