Honestly, I would prefer a new chapter over an update for the mod to a game I don't play.
WTF...
You realise that isn't one of Tayta's super powers right?
If you don't want to be pinged by this thread unwatch or change your notification settings.
Either way you won't miss an actual update because this won't leave the first page of Quests for a week. (Not that its going to happen.)

This extra column isn't actually something I added - it's a vanilla feature that only ever shows up for Servants players. (All hail Daddy Hydra!)

In general, if you can refrain from nuking a region for 7 years, the fallout of previous strikes (and other nuclear events, watch your reactors!) will reduce low enough to be ignorable. I'm sure players will be capable of doing this.
But, but, the big red button!
Every month, refugees will attempt to migrate from unwelcoming regions to welcoming ones, travelling through adjacent regions until they find a nice one to settle down in. Once there, they'll naturalize into citizens over time,
Part of the population, part of the region.
Part of the population, part of the region.
Part of the population, part of the region.
Still, all these troublesome humans will continue to put a sizeable dent in your faction's resource balances for the foreseeable future.
Humans, am I right?
Really, there's nothing that science can't do in this mod!
But can it explain why do kids love the taste of cinnamon toast crunch?
Some additional changes have been made to nuclear weapons: fortifications and Arcology defenses no longer completely block nuclear strikes, but instead reduce their damage. Valkyrie Groups can, in turn, be deployed to act as spotters and increase the damage inflicted. It is generally unlikely that armies will be instantly destroyed by a single strike, encouraging you to use them more often and more tactically, as befits combat in the BAHHSCQ setting.
Gandhi, no!
The Military priority can also be used to remove it, if you are maxed out on Miltech; if there is no Attrition to remove, the nation will instead slowly build up Military Reserves which provide a buffer against future Attrition.
My army of combat maids will be unstoppable.

Tayta joined the dev team for Terra Invicta purely to gain close access to its code and modding interface during development in order to better prepare to create the BAHHSCQ mod, as I recall.

Alright, alright you probably want an update on your waifus too. Tayta just had to update while I was on vacation.

Mathematicae here with your supplementary waifu dev diary. Sorry, no pictures. Gotta give you an incentive to be an alpha tester. I'm not lazy I swear. :D

Setting aside some UI and tooltip additions to the previous councilor content, which I'm sure the alpha testers can offer suggestions to improve, there are three major additions to councilors.

Valks

Yes, up until now Valks didn't actually exist in the mod. But now they do. Once you complete a certain global tech, surely a high priority for completion, at least one, and possibly more if you get lucky, of every faction's current councilors discovers that she (non-female councilors get an equal shot, but most councilors will be female) is compatible with the Valkyrie core. Also, once the global tech completes every newly generated councilor has a small chance to start out as Valk compatible. In the future there will be additional research to increase the chance for Valk compatibility and certain factions will specific projects related to creating/finding Valks and so on.

Mechanically this adds 2 traits to your lucky councilor(s). One trait can specialize your councilor into being a builder or an officer like how the UN specializes Valks in the quest. Currently that trait is mostly a placeholder. The other trait that measures your councilor's experience as a Valk from complete newbie to Anna. Right now, you can just spend xp to upgrade all the way to Anna's level. Don't get used to it. If you want your waifu to get on Anna's level, you'll need more than just xp in the future. This trait will add some juicy bonuses like xp reduction (super powerful in vanilla) and a bonus to the new HP system.

Hit Points

Vanilla Terra Invicta tries to be a hard sci-fi kind of game. Which means councilors die when they are killed. But this is an anime mod, so to heck with that. Important characters only die when you see the body and you should probably use some of the nukes Tayta was telling you about just now to make sure.

All councilors now have hitpoints and they can only die when HP drops below 0. Regular councilors start out with 1 HP. There's some plans for limited upgrades to give non-Valks more HP, but the main way to get councilors with high HP is to be a Valk. Oh, and everyone gets the HP system. No chain assassinating a rival faction or Antagonist councilors.

Any mission that would normally kill a councilor (Assassinate, failing certain missions, etc.), now reduces HP instead. Most of the time it will reduce HP by 1, but some missions (like the new Attack Army mission), might reduce HP by up to 3. And HP matters even before the councilor dies. Councilors take stat penalties when wounded, proportional to how much HP they have lost, and if they are at 50% hp or less they fall into the wounded status which restricts them from certain missions.

Councilors have a passive chance to increase their HP every turn that scales up the longer they're below maximum HP. You can also have them take the go to ground mission to further improve the odds of recovery. Having your waifu hang out with you at the faction HQ will also increase the chances of recovering a wound. Handholding optional.

Attack Army

Finally, there's a new mission called Attack Army. It, uh, lets your councilor attack an army on the geoscape. Based on your councilor's ability it will inflict damage on the army, but the army doesn't just sit there and take it, this is a realistic semi-realistic sometimes realistic anime mod, so the army retaliates and inflicts HP damage on the councilor attacking. Attacking an entire army by yourself is pretty dangerous. This is a Valk exclusive mission, ordinary humans don't get to 1v1 entire armies. It kind of goes without saying, but I wouldn't recommend sending a newbie Valk on this mission. Newbie Valks die if they fail this mission. Sending Valks on suicide missions makes Anna sad. Don't make Anna sad.

Looking forward to all the alpha tester bug reports (not). And please do brag about your op strats! so we can nerf them into the ground like devs did to me in Terra Invicta  I mean, so we can celebrate your accomplishment.

"What does the scouter say about the Councilor's power level?"

"It's 0.8001 Annas."
Which means councilors die when they are killed.
Nani?
Important characters only die when you see the body and you should probably use some of the nukes Tayta was telling you about just now to make sure.
And then test the remains in case of temporal energies, dimensional irregularities and genetic degeneration, since the body could be from an alternate dimension/timeline, or a clone.
Having your waifu hang out with you at the faction HQ will also increase the chances of recovering a wound. Handholding optional.

Big shout out as always to the friendly user who gilds my posts!

Can't believe @Icipall is posting lewds in our family-friendly quest thread, smh.

In theory, the game engine could even support bringing dead councillors back to life... although the UI for it might end up being a bit hacky.

D-Don't make it sound so underhanded on my part!

I did plenty of work for the mod even before joining the dev team was on the table... but I will admit, being a dev does help a lot. :p

Rereading older devlogs, I'm curious: How does a Peacekeeping Rebellion work? It sounds a bit contradictory.
"Peacekeeping" is what the rebels plan to do if they win. Basically the agenda / nation-level ideology / foreign policy stance they're fighting for. I guess it is a weird combo considering that the main effect of Peacekeeping is to prevent Unrest from getting to the point of rebellion in the first place, but I figured Rebellions ought to be an equal-opportunity mechanic.

That does make me think it would be neat if the rebellions had mechanical effects based on what agenda they fought for, maybe I'll come up with something for that when we do another pass over nation mechanics. Faction stuff really has to take priority for the moment.

A "Peacekeeping" rebellion will likely be one of two things.

1) The peacekeepers deployed are turning against their government and the local government for some nation building of their own.
2) The locals have concluded the government has lost control and are the assholes causing most of the violence anyway, so they're taking up arms to kick them out and replace them with a less hostile government more in line with keeping the peace.

Omake - ReImagined - Pickles and Friends
Tis the end of October once more, and the thread slumbers.
For my first post this thread I bring a humble offering.
A short tale of valkyrie cadets, and sliced cucumbers.

Your name is Anna Sanchez, and you are in a pickle. N-not literally, of course! It's a figure of speech! Though your sensors do detect a fair number of them nearby, next to the other sandwich additives. The cafeteria is relatively empty this early in the morning, so the offerings of today's breakfast selection are rather full. Actually, with a proper application of industrial grade food synthesizers, five hundred kilograms of feedstock, and an impeller field partition to direct the output, it wouldn't be too hard to assemble the fruit, inundate with acetic acid solution, flash freeze—

No, stay focused!

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Inhale.

Exhale.

You open your eyes (when did you close them?) and look up into the expectant faces of two of your fellow cadets. Judging from their uniforms, both appear to be first years like yourself, with features marking them to be of East Asian descent. The shorter girl with pigtails is looking pointedly at you, while the taller one with straight hair shifts in anticipation. They seem to be awaiting a response.

Right. Well.

You suppress a fidget as you review Durga's recording of their approach.

Oh. Hmm. Uh...

You resist the urge to wring your fingers—that would drop your breakfast tray—and wait you can just use your impeller to hold it in place so you do just that and blink.

Um.

Right. The matter at hand.

Do you want to sit with them?

Well... you are supposed to be making friends here. Even though you haven't quite worked up the nerve to approach anybody yet...

You were planning on doing it! Honest!

"Ooh, that's a neat trick you're doing with your impeller. Why don't you just put it into storage? Oh, are you practicing with it?" bubbles the one called Yukari.

You hastily dump your victuals into Durga for storage.

"Anna Sanchez," you mumble. "Pleased to meet you."

You learn over icebreakers and pancakes that though you share a year, you do not share any classes with your impromptu breakfast partners. In retrospect, that does make a certain amount of sense. You are, after all, taking the Accelerated course, academic only. That you are doing so is obviously a sign that the UN recognizes your superlative building skills and not at all an attempt to shirk away from your maternally mandated duty of... socializing with your yearmates.

You have friends. It's not your fault that they're all thousands of miles away!

Mostly.

Well, you were kind of curious about going to a real Valkyrie Academy...
And what a mess that's been...
A ping from Durga has you perk up from your internal stewing and refocus your attention back onto the part of you following the conversation on autopilot. Yukari is enthusiastically demonstrating her plans for the day with the remnants of her melonpan, apparently representing a target, by stabbing it with her chopsticks, representing her halberd, as Setsuna nods along. Something about a brother, and the upcoming Squadron Vanguard tournament?

A quick search for one 'Rokusabe, Koujirou' on the Arcology network reveals a number of 'morale-boosting photo-ops' according to the metadata, which you promptly filter out. Ahem. Goodness, you almost choked on your juice.

More relevantly, you discover a fairly impressive, if brief, service record—making Elite Valkyrie in less than three months, going on to participate in two major battles and on track for making Ace in under a year—before a mysteriously redacted incident put him on indefinite leave. Interestingly, it seems that he's also enrolled at Perth as a first year.

You dismiss the connection as Yukari concludes her rant.

"...so if Big Bro's busy with 'secret badass business' as he calls it, then that just gives us time to catch up in the simulators!"

"He's probably just slacking off, but Yuka's right. I won't be left behind any more!" declares Setsuna.

Gosh, that's some confidence. You weren't planning on participating at all in that event.

"I'm sure you'll both do well," you say.

"About that, Anna." Yukari begins. "We were wondering if you'd like to join us for some practice rounds? There's only so much you can gain from fighting the same people over and over, and Setsu and I already know all of each other's tricks."

"They don't let just anybody into the accelerated classes, so you must be pretty strong." Setsuna agrees. "Even if you don't plan on joining the tourney it'd be cool to see what you've got."

Pancakes.

You look down at your plate. Your sensors inform you that you've already finished your food.

You're flattered, really, that they've come to you for help.

You look up, ready to refuse.

"Sure." the word slips out, unbidden.

What have you done?

Koujirou and Yukari's positions would basically reverse. He's coming out of forced retirement after somehow recovering his Valkyrie compatibility after losing it in the backstory. Yukari, now younger by a few months rather than older by more than a year, would tag along cause she's worried for him and thinks he might push too hard and get hurt again.

Shuri and the Ojou would bascally have the same relationship as I detailed above except the Design Child would like the Golden Ace as a friend and worries about her in a sorta motherly way ("No Shuri, that's not how it will happen, people aren't nice." "Says you, I like to assume the best." "mfw if this works" etc)

Anna would be happier and spend a lot of time voice chatting to her friends from the Canadian town, but super shy around people she doesn't know. She'd probably phone home every night complaining about how scary and strange the culture in Perth is and lament her lack of ability to find friends, to which all those canadians would naturally reply "Ganbatte Anna-chan!"

Oh, and the Ginungagap project wouldn't exist as Anna can't reproduce Wave Force on demand, she can only use it when the density of plot reaches a certain critical mass.

Not the pickles, not the pickles!

Ah, the version where Koujirou is the older sibling.
Ah, it was based on that post.
