So, thinking back on @Looking Glass' idea for Anna as EMM-chan, I can't help but think it'd be a sort of three-phase game.

The first phase would be "Man gives innumerable prayers to Heaven for salvation." - in this phase, you get to do initial base-building, resource gathering, picking your starting loadout of civilian equipment (like that car battery), etc.

The second phase would be "Heaven replies with nothing but death to recompense man." - in this phase, you fight off a wave of AGs, plain and simple.

The two phases alternate, with the first phase getting shorter, and the second phase getting longer, with more waves each stage.

Personally, I think there should be a name for each stage, along with a "Goal" that's onscreen giving guidance during the phase. Maybe:

  • S1P1: "A Child Building Castles..." Goal: "Use your newfound powers to improve your hometown"
  • S1P2: "...Too Close to the Shore" Goal: "Save as many as you can"
  • S2P1: "Away from the Waves..." Goal: "Relocate to a more defensible location"
  • S2P2: "...And Onto the Rocks" Goal: "Hold off the enemy while the villagers get inside"
and so forth.

This pattern repeats until the first phase dwindles into nothing and the waves just keep coming.

...but if you can keep going, and make it through an incredibly long sequence of waves - maybe even as high as "2y play time" - you get to phase three.

Phase 3: "Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill."
Title: "Salting the Earth, Boiling the Seas"
Goal: "End the waves. Destroy the source. Kill them all."

And after defeating an (unnamed in-game) Type-0 and shattering the hive, it fades to black as you fly back home... preventing the player from being spoiled on what Anna found. Now that should be a proper gut-punch for EMM-chan theorists - what, you thought she won? :D

The idea here is that, instead of "strictly" Endless Battle Mode, there's a gradual switchover from preparation to a seemingly Endless Battle Mode... which isn't actually endless, if you can survive an absurd amount of time, for the Hidden Secret Boss Fight.

EDIT: Oooooh, further idea - once you're in the "Endless" portion, have the Goal get simpler and simpler. "Destroy all enemy units without damage to the base", "Destroy all enemy units", "Destroy the enemy", "Kill the enemy", "Kill them", "Kill", "Kill", "Kill"...

O-ho-ho-ho, that's evil. I like it.

Now imagine this - when the anime finally gets to her arc, and Coke-Zero finally manages to get her to open up, the anime does little flashbacks while she's explaining - her finding Durga, her gathering resources, her fighting the first wave of antagonists, her moving the villagers to a safer location... the EMM-chan theorists start going wild, pointing out how the stages line up.

By the time she's talking about the fight against Sekhmet, and the flashback shows the same model the game used for the Type-0, they're all nodding along, unsurprised but vindicated... and then she's flying home. But she's still talking. It's not fading to black. The EMM-chan theorists are on the edge of their seats to finally get the reward they're sure she (and they) earned, a village that's finally safe and can begin to rebuild.

And as the village comes over the horizon, there's nothing but ash and bones.

Now THAT would be some delicious salt... especially if, for the first time in the anime, they hear badass, stoic Bread-chan choking up, on the verge of tears as she's narrating the flashback.

So, everyone, what is the best type of geometry? What is the worst type of geometry?:p:V:drevil::thonk:

If you'd like to bring the topic of discussion back something related to BAHHSCQ, I'm sure that a lot of people would be absolutely thrilled to chime in. This quest and its setting are, after all, incredibly popular.

As is, this is just off-topic posting of no actual relevance to the quest besides a very tired meme. And if you just want to shitpost, there are better places for it.

I assume that twt1 just started because he thought somebody else would have a suggestion.
I just joined in because I'm the geometry derail guy. It's what I do.

Then either stop complaining and derailing it further and instead bring it back on track? Maybe?
I mean being passive aggressive about derails is itself a derail.
Honestly, its hard to rerail it when practically everyone needs to do the yearly reread. Only memes remain right now in our brains. And our favorite scenes.

Rerail attempt #1: is there a space colony or Mars base in this setting? why not if not?

You mention that the setting is popular - are there quality spin-offs? I'm aware of what's in the thread and in the OP, but nothing else.

There are no colonies on other planets, due to Abraxas. I don't recall if there's a moonbase, though I think there might be, possibly; the God Gun project is directly related, I believe.

Kaizuki has done a couple. Dunno if anyone else has.

All the ones I'm aware of are... inactive for lack of a better term.

Armstrong base, though I'm unsure if it's anything more than just a support facility for The God Gun.
