This deabte confuses me, isn't it canon that Anna, at peerless, is the best pilot in the world? (Her goals piece of her profile lists ranks) Ad Avalanche has said Anna is the best pilot in the world. So the debate as whether Durga is superior to a 300 frame is mostly immaterial, as we don't need one.
We have Durga, and I doubt even a genius with a 300 frame could beat us as we are now.
Also, we customized Durga to suit US. The 300 are non-customizable, so I frankly think they would be a downgrade for Anna, because she may not be able to fight how she likes with their equipment.
Basically, it is pointless for us to care about whether we can or should get a 300 frame.

I think the only debate is whether or not we'd get combatively more effective with a 300 Frame's increased firepower and impeller regen, compared to how close we are to Durga.

Edit: @Monotov, @pinkturnip, debate is dead. Everything @Monotov said had already been posted and agreed with, if in a slightly different form. The entire thing originated from horrible misinterpretations of "can we cannibalize parts of a 300 and put them in Durga."

Huh not to stress anyone but we're closing on 100 pages and a month from the last story bit...

Shhhhhh.

We're 7 pages plus some posts from being 100 pages from the last story post, and it's been 7 weeks to the day. We've had over 12k words of omake in that time. It's been 6 weeks to the day since Vae Victoria and 1 week to the day since Mors Innocentia.

... Apparently Thursdays OP. Kewl.

And frankly if there's been a week+ lapse in posting, I'm not aware of it.

That's insane. Do you have ANY idea how insane that is? Seven fucking weeks and it's chugging along. Anything that's gone seven weeks without a story post had ought to be dead; maybe not permanently, but at least temporarily.

And yet, here we are.

Some of it has been friendly chatting, some of it has been pounding on Avalanche's window, some of it has been Science! and some of it has been... Well, frankly, me, and other omake writers. Some of it has been comparing this with other threads. Some of it has just been meaningless. Part of it has been that Avalanche is on regularly and posts in thread to reply to people. Part of it has been that people have been on regularly and have posted questions/comments/ideas in here aimed at Avalanche. Some fraction of it has been long, drawn-out arguments over the player-unknown history of the world of BAHHSCQ, fueled by WoGs, rhetoric, and conjecture.

Hell, part of it has been Kobolds drowning in Florida. We're still not sure how they're alive after a hundred plus pages of that, but the current theory is that they're in a 2-D sidescroller and they've either been finding air bubble pickups or they've got a really large number of lives.

When the story post comes, our quiet little community will suddenly spawn several solid pages of votes as all SV turns its eyes on us. And we shall rejoice. Especially me. Because Anna.

On that topic, I'll be surprised if it takes more than another week to edit, honestly I'm still expecting it to be right around the corner >.>

I blame Avalanche's word sorcery. He's obviously a Deva of that guy who bleeds unknown words. :V

No, I've confronted him about this. Apparently, he's a sorcerer that knows a water breathing spell... wait, I forgot to ask what his character level was!

I'm pretty sad that I started reading this during the longest break between updates. The same happened with a few other threads I started at the same time; the near daily updates immediately dried up and there haven't been any since.

The primary reason I'm hesitant to try out a 300 Frame isn't due to Durga being better than a 300 Frame, but because first generation Valkyries were merely noted to work better with their cores with enough time comparatively Anna went from 1% to 100% compatibility with Durga, meaning Anna is liable to experience phantom limb syndrome.

Basically anything that's not Durga would be insufficient for Anna. Durga allows Anna to bring out her full potential and vice versa. A 300 frame would not be an improvement.

Even if we talk about her trying frames temporarily just to get a feel for how to gank their goodies, there's something to remember: she'd have to functionally amputate a chunk of her cognitive processes to try out any other frame at all, so I can't imagine she'd be enthusiastic about that, if she even knew how to. Remember she had that conversation with the instructors, and she genuinely doesn't seem to know where the off switch is, or even if there is one any more.

Also, I seem to remember Avalanche mentioning somewhere that if Anna tried to "take off" Durga, the components would collapse into a pile of materials and exotic matter. Which is kinda suboptimal for if you want to, y'know, put the suit back on.

Edit: @Sightsear no way! If he had that he would be swimming, not drowning! And kobolds don't...

Tell...

Lies... Right...?

*spins around* shoves finger at @NotAKobold RIGHT!?!?

*groans in horror* we've all been deceived! QUICK, RETARGET THE DAKKA MISSILES AT FLORIDA! WE MUST PUT A STOP TO THIS SORCEROUS TREACHERY!

To the best of my knowledge the #1 reason this update has taken so long is that somewhere between a third and a half of the way through, Avalanche looked at the quest system he had going and DakkaDakka'd the whole thing, swapping to a(n almost entirely?) narrative system. If we figure that he more or less threw all his progress in the can when he did that, then...

Well, that happened on July 31. If we look at that as start date, Avalanche wrote 8653 words in 26 days to complete the update, which has been in editing ever since. And, looking at July 31, the timetable is, even RIGHT NOW, only about as long as between story 8 and story 9, April 3 and may 5.

Shit, that almost makes me feel better. T~T annnaaaaaaaaa

No, no, that happens if we try to pull our suit components out of the core. Specifically, because Durga-suit (as opposed to Durga-core) originated with basic components (e.g., a metal plow that Anna used as a shield for a long time) instead of with a cohesive suit of body armor like standard UN cores do, pulling Durga-suit out of Durga-core is a realllllyyyy bad idea -- instead of a suit you get several puddles of different types of matter. Removing Durga-core would take Durga-suit along, but it would remain inside Durga-core, so it would stay in one piece. Removing Durga-core might, however, turn Anna's brain into a pile of mush.

It would also take away our on-demand access to bread.

Huh. Thought I was misremembering something, but I couldn't be bothered to check - there aren't enough hours in the day, and all that. Fair enough.

We have an entire cabal of necromancers dedicated to keeping it...mobile.

What? What kobold? Where?*Is currently living within a giant alligator*

Me: "Has it updated? No? How about now?"

20, plus I'm playing a gestalt campaign, which means that I'm also a wizard.:V

Like trying to cut your arm off with a machete-
