That's not the point. The people who voted for the option of sending a force did so accepting the possibility of a war. You accepted the gamble, and in doing so, accepted the possibility that the dice would fuck up and start WW3, which was clearly labeled by Blackstar. It's as simple as that.

We shot first and killed hundreds (thousands?) of Frenchmen, while on a mission to supply weapons to separatists in a territory that they consider as integral as California or Kazakhstan are to the USA/USSR.

Blackstar has made comments in the Discord to the tone of "I cannot believe you fucked up the single simplest of Cold War Crises where everyone's position was clearly laid out."
Let's just hope this doesn't go nuclear and just goes as a totally normal world war

If it becomes war, it will absolutely become nuclear. France knows it can't win a conventional war with us, so its entire nuclear policy is "if it looks like there'll be one, nukes."

I'll be blunt in saying that no-one should be suprised. Most people on forums are full of piss, vinegar and alcohol (Just a figure of speech here, not literally). The concept of "losing" is hard to swallow for people who don't try to look at things objectively. This isn't an accusation made against anyone, but just a generalization from what I've seen. I'm going to pin the result of this vote on that.

Well, that's me told a bit. It's not irreparable, but it's going to be rough economically speaking, and Algerians are most probably fucked. Yeah, we can blame the dice, and the odds were not bad, but it's still stands that we voted to gamble on not the most critical decision. Nevertheless, there might come some good out of this, as everyone realizes that escalating things might actually, seriously lead to a nuclear war, and will create the off-ramp mechanisms.
The French are neer to starting a genocide on the algerians is probably pushing a few buttons on people?

I know some people are saying it would have been fine if the dice rolled better, but what if the dice had rolled even worse? There was a very real chance of things spiraling harder then they already now are. I'll be surprised and impressed if there aren't some kind of consequences for this that are going to be a lot worse than if there was no escalation at all.

presumably because this is a quest were we run a government and have to make choices? This was a big decision to make. What kind of quest would make the big decisions for you with no agency?
edit: while we don't run the whole government and just the economic ministry yes, the political system might as well be the same thing for decisions like this.

Because we are playing as biased and questionably reliable people who do not know all of the information in regards to the circumstances they enter.
Because that's been the entirety of this quest? Like the entire theme since Turn 1 in 1928 is biased or missing information leading us into (historically accurate!) bad decisions. "Well it seemed like a good idea at the time..." is practically the tagline of this quest.

It also evidently wasn't obvious in that it was bad, seeing how it got something like 2/3rds of the votes.
it literally is random dice chance
people only feel emboldened to publicly masturbate and gloat because the random number generator lead to a crisis
if the random number generator went well and didn't lead to crisis they'd shut up and stay silent out of embarrassment/being pissed it didn't lead to crisis and "teach us our lessons"
like it is literally just because of random chance and numbers
even the qm is also surprised because it takes some extremely unlucky rolls to fuck up a very simple task
we literally do not vote on the dice numbers
should we switch to 2 die 50 instead of 1 dice 100 to make rolls smoother and not likely to get such extremes?
maybe but we simply took a risk and the random chance didn't pay off
no one could guarantee we'd roll low enough to get a crisis
unless someone sat down and mathed out all the probabilities
people have openly stated Algeria and Algerian lives do not matter in this vote so obviously some people are going to vehemently disagree and vote in defense of the Algerians and this simply is not a bad thing
what would be the good choice even?
that's something that's informed by personal ideology and philosophy and personal politics and limited by us playing the head of a Soviet ministry and not like an actual sandals on the ground national liberation fighter
