Reading over this again and I'm wondering what they had going for them to proclaim we are a child of prophecy? Are they going by the signs or something else? Are they just making this up to oppose the Faith?

1. Viserys is the favorite but many of his personal flaws are known but they also know he is a young man with his wish's. He is okay with being king and won't shy away from it.
2.Laenor Though through the female line, he is a male heir and young. Westeros at this time can survive a regency because they belive that war is not going to fuck them up. The only problem is: he is gay.
3. Rhaenys herself: an unprecedented event in the history of Westeros. Will drastically affect law in the entire nation

They do have old prophecy about a boy dragon rider who will be a hero but that prophecy is already come to pass. But they are reusing it to give themselves hope.

Very unlikely since he has an older brother. Like, I would say Rhaenys has higher chances than Daemon.

Yeah, but if Daemon is perceived as a great candidate for King, it kind of reinforces Viserys claim, because voting for Viserys puts Daemon as his direct successor of him...
I always thought this was weird but isn't the andal succession supposed to be sons before daughters and daughters before uncles? Because than Rhaenys is the legitimate heir and Jaehaerys screwed up the succession.
Not to mention that the succession laws of the throne were never considered beforehand. Looking at it it just seems like everyone ignored the law or used it the justify their own heirs after they already ignored it.

Always saw it as Jaehaerys trying to make the way he became king the legitimate one. Like if we follow the one you mentioned then Jaehaerys nieces would of came first before him but he got to be king instead.

Let's just say that the old king has one last card to play before the council. And it might be the last lucid thing the man does before the council.

Looking at it, I'm surprised the Faith immediatly went for 'HERESY!' rather than 'this boy needs a septa stat', given that we are like 10. That would have been a smarter play.
Also, if/when we get pardoned it's going to put Otto in an uncomfortable spot because his faith and house is going to want him to push us out of court while he knows that whoever ends up king (most likely Viserys) is going to be very much against that. Which will be good for Westeros as a whole.

Not really, for some unfathomable reason Martell and Targaryen DNA go together like peanut butter and jelly, every time their bloodlines mix it tends to produce highly capable and sane individuals...

The thing is, the faith does not like competition. It instead likes other things, like subservience and convert soon!
Basically we have him by the balls and it makes lots of fun things happen.

But one, the People making these Decisions may not be that smart and two, we are a Dragon Rider which has them spooked, so that probably played a part in it.
