Even the Braavosi appreciate jousting!

If only because it's excessively barbaric and quaint! Just ask Uthero and all of his drinking buddies, they love it!

"My castle will have the greatest jousting grounds! The petals will fall automatically from the heavens!"

That's a bit excessively informal.

How about a small tourney?
We are Westerosi after all and the Circle of Battle is currently too small for proper jousting.

We've done informal before though. Remember the Tavern speech. The idea is to get Viserys talking with his subjects in a setting thats not so formal as a hearing or an official speech (tm).

*screams like a little girl and runs away*
As long as we're not retarded enough to piss off the Lady of Pain, I see no reason why it should be particularly more dangerous for us than any other planar metropolis. And it would certainly have pretty much anything we might think to look for.

EDIT: As for jousting, turn it into the Westerosi equivalent of pro wrestling, where the fights are fake but the stunts are real. Or use triceratops mounts. Maybe both.

Saaaame. Uthero would loves that shit, too!
Speaking of Uthero, I wonder if he's stopped beating around the bush and confessed to Alysande yet.

I'll just say right now that I'm going to oppose attempts to go to Sigil.

You don't even need to annoy her, you just have to be in her general area to be at risk of complete annihilation, no save, rocks fall, everybody dies.

If not, we should spend part of our break time with Lya encouraging it for our amusement.

Why, out of curiosity?

This being an RPG, the unstated codicil is "this only happens to you if you piss off the DM to the point where he flips the table, burns your charsheets, and has to be restrained from strangling you". Unless we find a way to reach out over the Internet and get Cheetos stains on DP's stuff, we should hopefully be able to avoid that.

While I think jousting is retarded, I would fully support Minotaurs jousting while riding Dinosaurs.

That would put the Westeros in their place.

Hey, so long as we set up our TV-system before that event, I'm for it whatever it is.
Let's give masses those circusses to go along with their bread.
@Goldfish, how is it, btw?

Time might be a problem but I doubt The Lady of Pain will give much of a crap about us unless we break one of her edicts.

Part MMCCCXLVII: Embers of Faith
Embers of Faith

Twenty-Sixth Day of the Fifth Month 293 AC

You have said your piece and there is no more to add, not here, not now. So with one last look at the guttering pillar of green flame you take your leave of King's Landing and return Sorcerer's Deep, to Thoros. The priest had had obviously been pacing through the chart room and just as obviously taking advantage of the pitcher of Arbor Gold set on the table by a servant, or given the hour mayhap by Hestior.

"Is it done?" To his credit the man's voice gives no hint of how much he must have been drinking, though it does bespeak of the worry that drove him to it.

"The Guildhall is no more, and the guild itself is soon to follow it. I shared the truth of their darker dealings with most of King's Landing," you reply simply.

He briefly curses at the news, then seeing your expression he adds, "It's good that the warning's been given, but now there'll be mobs and barefoot septons calling for the death of all 'firemongers'." The priest grimaces, obviously speaking from unwelcome experience.

"We don't have many septons here, barefoot or otherwise," Dany interjects. "Perhaps you would be better served in staying now that the 'king' of the Iron Throne has surely been warned."

For all his unexpected virtues Thoros of Myr is not a man skilled in keeping his feelings off his face. You read there interest clear as day, but also worry, and one rooted in something far deeper than merely taking a step into the unknown. Whatever his troubles, now is not the time to lay them out. You've other business... other means of persuasion.

"We should free Ser Kennos now that the greater danger is past. No man deserves to languish in a devil's company..."

"What of the damned, then?" the priest of R'hllor asks, the question more earnest than he would perhaps wished for.

"I pity them," you answer plainly. "Though I might fight and kill those who knowingly bargain with dark powers, though there are many I even hate, still I pity them all their fate." For a moment your mind lingers on the doomed Daemon worshiper who had prayed to kinder gods before the hour of her death.

The answer obviously comes as a surprise, but the priest does not pursue the matter further.

***

As you turn the scrying glass' eye upon Ser Kennos of Kayce, you are greeted by a surprising sight: rather than a bed in some inn or keep you see feeble fire, barely more than embers glowing under the eves of some nameless patch of wood, fat raindrops still sliding along the dark leaves, though the rain had obviously stopped. At first you think the knight had taken a chill from the wet and cold, but then you begin to catch his words. It has the sound of a prayer and not to any infernal power.

"The night is dark and full of terrors, the fire burns them all away. Trust in Him from whom all fire springs...."

"He is trying to fight the compulsion!" Dany exclaims impressed.

"And the Lord of Light has awakened the strength in his heart that he may do so," Thoros interjects reverently.

You forbear to mention that you would rather see him call to a kinder less troublesome power. In the end the westerlander knight's actions do make some sense. After seeing his friend and priest of the Red God cut down before his very eyes, he had heard him in his mind like some manner of guardian spirit.

Whatever the case he seems to be alone as far as the scrying mirror shows, with no trace of either other men or hidden devils lurking nearby. Still ,few victories have been won by acting in haste. "I shall consult with our scaled friend," you tell Dany, not mentioning Yss by name so as not to turn Thoros' world on its side too swiftly.

Unfortunately, Yss confirms your suspicions. Ser Kennos is being watched by devils wishing to use his momentary straying as a lure to capture Thoros, whose name he had given away during his fevered prayers. Further questioning reveals that they are not expecting you but rather some power within the faith of the Red God, perhaps come from Myr itself, to recover their wandering brother.

What do you do?

OOC: I hope you guys don't mind me handling the various divinations automatically to streamline. If you have other commune questions Viserys can do a spell. He has XP to burn.

It's borderline impossible to go to Sigil without having an adventure. Unplanned adventures are time-consuming, unwelcome, and disrupt the schedule in many annoying ways.

And then there's the Lady of Pain whose mere existence is enough to earn a hard "nope" from me.
The LoP mazing or annihilating us would require a level of stupidity from the thread that I don't think is possible while still being intelligent enough to use a computer. As for adventures, those seem to happen on most occasions when we leave SD, whether planned or not.

The geography itself is dangerous. Walking down the street at just this time under this particular arch carrying that particular thing in your pocket? Sent to another plane.

You can never know.
How much of a danger is that if you're a mage who can cast planeshift? Obviously you can't get back to Sigil that way, but getting home should still be possible.

I can certainly agree that having the mirror portal set to Sigil would have been a bad idea, because we were much weaker then and so were our allies. But we're a lot stronger now, enough that we should be able to survive there as long as we keep our wits about us and our visits short.

It's a stupidly dangerous, boring to watch and repetitive sport where the only entertainment is the occasional maiming.
So like stock car racing, then?

EDIT: And a wild update appears.

Seems like the big question is whether to use Thoros as bait.

Hmm. What's Azema up to right now? If we can make it look like demons were responsible for grabbing Ser Kenos from the trap, we can disguise our involvement while getting our enemies to actively target each other.

Good. Goood.

Buff fireman up to the gills. Teleport him. And have him go blood and thunder on then as a distraction?

Then we teleport in and subdue turtle all the devil's?

Could we use the fact they are expecting Thoros to our advantage? He is the only one not invisible and while devils focus on him we strike unseen.

Atleast we can prepare PoF proof weirwoods now, also:
  • Ash Willow Dark red tree native to the elemental plane of fire that can grow to 120 ft tall. It thrives of heat, often growing from pools of lava. They continuously rain ash around them, producing 1 lb per day per 10 ft of its height. It extends runner roots that spawn 1d3 new tree each month. They create areas of calm, slow-bunring forests within the volatile plane. Dragon 347 p. 48
I want to import lava growing trees... :p

Could we perhaps take a few days next schedule to enjoy the Flaming Sea and find / ask where these grow?

So many uses!

  • Fiery!Weirwood research
  • Fire resistant lumber?
  • Alchemical ingredients?
  • Fire dryad research?

@DragonParadox can we maje regular dryad seeds from the Fungus Forge? Could we make Ash Willow Dryads eventually?
