The ropes at her feet twist and coil, weaving together with deadly intent. No fiends these, but you know them just the same. Mindless, deadly, called to serve, a pair of hangmen golems rise to their masters' calls.
Loot?

@DragonParadox A map might be a bit much, but how viable is a maximised searing firebreath on the devils? Going by the angles and positioning of allies? Can we get the golems too/instead?
DP, dude, that was epic!Upon a Sea of Flame Part Thirteen
Seventh Day of the Fifth Month 293 AC
Within your mind you call for aid, not desperately not in haste for all the strength and numbers the foe has shown, but with surety and purpose. "Silence the weapons."
Thus they come amidst three thunderous detonations rippling into each other: your sister, your friends, you allies of the moment, all united in common purpose. From Dany's lips a spell is born to lull accursed magic into slumber, not once but twice, her spell arcing from one diabolic engine to the other in a blaze of shifting colors. With a shudder of twisted metal two of the weapons lie motionless once more.
Two Hellfire Belchers suppressed for 3 rounds
The final Orthon had dropped its bow and recovered its jagged iron pike, trying to reach over Ser Richard's shoulder to strike at Dany. The knight's first blow severs the weapon, the second takes the devil's arm, and the third its life, while Dany hardly seems to notice.
By contrast Rina erects a wall of ice in an instant, the flawless surface reflecting scenes of havoc lit by crimson flames even as it encircles another of the hell-forged engines, while Waymar made wise by his earlier misadventure does not direct his magic towards another, but instead meets the charge of squad of Bueroza with his own, a pair of salamanders bearing heavy dragonglass axes protecting him from being surrounded by the baatezu.
One Hellfire Belcher Bound in Ice for 14 minutes
Enchanted bronze and the skill of scores of battles against foes far mightier than these serve Waymar in good stead as he slays one devil almost single-handedly and then a second weakened fiend on the back-swing, their armor-clad forms collapsing with a clang
Waymar loses 23 Temporary Hit Points
Just as the remaining engines began to glow to life with fel sorcery, one is buried in sand by Tyene's magic, blinding its arcane gaze, and the second struck a mighty blow from Yrten's hammer as he races across the decks, using his stout stature to roll under the blows of no less than three steel devils before the fourth claimed a meager tithe of blood.
Two Hellfire Belchers disabled for the duration of the battle
The final weapon roars to life, not near so frightful now that it is alone, you narrowly swerve from its path, something within you rebelling against the unnatural acrid smell it left on the air... the echo of screams. It grow and grows: the rattle of chains the screech of tearing metal, the rasp of the dying, all these seem part of the music of the damned, yet no description you could put into words could fully describe the dreadful din.
Steel Devil Chant in effect: All spell casters on the deck must make a concentration check to cast successfully (DC+22+ spell level)
Even as five more Ortons emerge, pikes bristling from below decks, and Siduri finally shows her hand, thrusting one of the steel-clad devils away from its fellows down the hatch in a clang of metal and infernal curses. The ropes at her feet twist and coil, weaving together with deadly intent. No fiends these, but you know them just the same. Mindless, deadly, called to serve, a pair of hangmen golems rise to their masters' calls.
What do you do?
[] Burn the golems as quickly as you can
[] Kill the Steel Devils
[] Seal the hatches
[] Write in
OOC: Somehow you guys are fighting an entire ship full of devils without taking any real damage. There were no less than three crits in this round on your side (though one was Dany's caster check for suppressing an engine).
You have my sympathy. Most of my teen years and nearly all of my 20s, I suffered from really awful insomnia.I had to get from a "get sleep whenever I finally feel like collapsing" schedule to a normal person's working hours one. Waking up at 5 AM to go to work again. How nostalgic.
@DragonParadox how big is the ship?
We could really use a tactical map.
But I think it's safe to say we can Firebrand all the Steel Devils, right?
They are, after all, clustered and each Brand is 5ft radius.
Does your reading of Contagious Flame allow for 4 rays to hit one target and 4 rays to leave it, or only 1 ray leaving per target damaged initially?
I'd certainly like to.Can we hijack the golems with the golem hijacking spell?
Please?
@DragonParadox, does Varys sense any particularly strong devils?
I'm looking for whichever one is controlling the golems.
summon a Maelephant to lay down a Blade Barrier over the hatches.
Also, now that we have spells of the Eighth circle, we are entering the territory in D&D where sometimes we have to intentionally hold back or destroy the terrain out from under us, the loot before us, and even any nearby bystanders we weren't trying to hit.
Unfortunately there's a very annoying metaphysical cost for summonings in this quest, and summoning what's been fluffed as a demon would push Viserys towards CE since he doesn't have Lya's alignment immunity. So, I'm thinking we Quickened Firebrand the shit out of the Steel Devils, and any Orthons we can get in the area, and summon a Maelephant to lay down a Blade Barrier over the hatches.
Oh, we outright can't summon one? Okay.I made that into a demon and Viserys is neither Chaotic nor evil

Honestly I'd prefer that devils keep on coming onto the ship's deck. Better on the surface than us having to go down and take on more risk to kill them.
Oh, we outright can't summon one? Okay.
Can we summon some kind of Maeletiger? to make up for the loss of diabolic forces after the great elephant betrayal.Technically you could but it would be so out of character and difficult to invoke that you probably don't want to make the first attempt at it in the middle of combat.
Night guys, see you tomorrow with more battle and probably a lot more dead devils.
Oh I've been here for years, I'm just saying. We've never had a thread-lock here and hope to keep it this way.
Welcome to the quest BTW.
Oh that's good. How does sacrificing eight to craft a Legion Standard with the chant ability sound? With the range, duration and bonus eight steel devils would have? If we ever get around to ever reverse engineering that Monster Slayer banner we could attach it to them. A Steel Chant standard with a Heroes Flame banner. One per legion? Both would really fit.Oh, you misunderstand. I'm all for making a few steel-turtles to carve that chant ability out of their soul.
If we can teach the Legion to disrupt magic by singing a good marching song...
