Hmm, while you may have a point, it seems like an IC "mistake" to do. Its a passionate speech, and Viserys is kind of pouring out his soul so that other people may join his vision. Its okay his feelings for Lya show a bit here, and I don't think anything horrible will come out of it.

That said, you might want to tag Azel as he seems to carry all the votes, my job here is done ;)

Thanks again for writing it up! It's good.

@Azel thoughts on substituting something else for "beloved Lya," to be a little less on the nose about the whole...not a mistress thing?

Also, something I was thinking about while grocery shopping. We ennobled both Ser Gerold and Alinor awhile back, but they haven't really gotten their house names or anything yet. DP probably wouldn't hate potential suggestions, given the amount of other things he has going on.

For Alinor, I thought Goldenhart would be amusing, as a subtle reference to her origins (prostitute with a heart of gold), and a reference to her rise to power (handling our gold) combo-ed with a classic heraldic animal (the hart). The downside with it is the goldenheart tree, but, eh.

There's coddling, and there's shades of Crusader Kings 2 fail (aka "shit right I should probably have assigned that kid a tutor at some point").

More seriously, if we continue as bad guardian, that pretty much signals weakness. It says we don't honor obligations.
We did make sure she has teachers.

In fact she even spends time with our inner circle, besides learning magic and training further with the blade after Garin personally got her started on that.

We arranged for her to learn to fight. We arranged for her to learn magic. We arranged for her to continue whatever studies she might have wanted to do. We arranged a room for her in our keep and treat her as one of our household. We had a Valyrian Steel Longsword set aside for her and were planning on giving it to her, except that it turns out she has Weapon Finesse as a trait.

Just because we're too busy to directly oversee her development doesn't mean we're bad guardians.

Remember that the POV something is told from shades the narrative. Valaena is used to and expects a much more regimented life than she currently has but that does not mean she does not have any lessons. It's just that outside of those lessons she is free to do what she pleases to a much greater extent than is usual for a Westerosi noble lady of fourteen.

Maybe give her some personal attention? There's nothing like having the King drop by for a minute to let you know you're important.

I think most of our wards sat in on a start of the month meeting at one point. You know, the ones where Viserys plans everyones time down to when they are allowed to sleep for more then 2 hours a night.

They are all quite happy that Viserys isn't making their schedules.

My terrible guardian thing was mostly hyperbole, and more aimed at all the people not named Valaena (who we've given the most attention to).

Made it "Lya the Sage". They called her "the Mage" already and now she made people and kickstarted the indstrial revolution. Time for an upgrade.

Great time to break it out.

Has anyone tried to speak to Viserys on their own? Find it a little weird nobody wants to speak to him, if only to see if he'll help them or ask permission for something.

Free actions that mostly made me thought of this, which I think we should talk to others more.

It's been only a few scant months since our enemies used the infernal, sorcerous power of Wildfire to try and wipe our city from the face of this earth, sowing despair and destruction on those who dared dream for a better future. As I promised you then in the midst of the ashes and the smoke, so I deliver to you now the first part of my promise. Thanks to Lya's keen mind and sorcerous might, and with the help of hundreds of other hard working citizens of the Deep, fey, human, minotaur and beyond, a great work of a kind unseen in ages has been erected."

I stand corrected: I overlooked/forgot the particulars regarding Valaena.

Is the vote still open? Please no commision, im glad people Saw the issue with the 5% (which was criminal) but we are overpaying by a lot even with the 1%,what about just giving her a salary for now and and giving her a commission in a couple years, when our party is fully equipped?
Going back to read the interlude now.
