Any reason they use Thinblades, a weird exotic weapon?
also I just noticed Justin was supposed to have squirted for Robert. That is unfortunatly too important a conection to cgalance over.
DP lets weapon profiency be trained through practice and the mechanics crew loves them. Which is fair, they have better numbers.
It's mechanically superior, from what I've been told.
Yeah, they're literally secret military tech for us.DP let's weapon profiency be trained through practice and the mechanics crew loves them. Which is fair, they have better numbers.
In universe they are essentially secret military technology, only our military gets them.
It's not so much lay out as potentially knock down, if the stars align and the situation is tenable.I really don't think these things should be individually laying out Adult Red Dragons in a single hit with basically zero downsides and not even the decency to look or act odd, just regular dudes if a bit bigger with no visual representation of being 85% plant knocking goddamn fleshplanes out of the sky.
This is way too anime for me, I have lost all SOD.
How many of these freaks are there even supposed to be?
Waymar is disappointed.
I was talking about knocking one to the ground with some luck and specifically aiming for it. Realistically, it would take 4 to 5 Praetorian's for that to work with any certainty. And then you got the big, angry murder-lizard on the ground and still need to actually finish it off, which it will most certainly object to. And this assumes that the Dragon is kind enough to get into strike range in the first place, so you better have 1 or 2 mages around to force it to the ground first.I really don't think these things should be individually laying out Adult Red Dragons in a single hit with basically zero downsides and not even the decency to look or act odd, just regular dudes if a bit bigger with no visual representation of being 85% plant knocking goddamn fleshplanes out of the sky.

I like them. And it's much too late to change them out now.I don't like the thinblade aesthetically.
Sword, Elven Thinblade - Weapons Description
This thing is is a oversized rapier, and we're combining it with a massive shield. It might be best mechanically, but I can't visualize this in action without it looking stupid. It's not like these guys are going to be dex fighters anyway.
No, the increase is about leverage, not weight or length of the weapon, which still isn't a 2-hander.Personally, I would prefer a bastard sword for the Praetorians. Threat range goes down by 1, but instead damage dices goes up by 1.
Come to think off, when wielded in one hand, would the bastard sword still count as two-handed for the purpose of Power Attack? Because that would be a significant increase in damage output.
Hm... point. Still a shame, as 6 damage are 6 damage are 6 damage. No, the increase is about leverage, not weight or length of the weapon, which still isn't a 2-hander.
Pretty much this:Besides, you are thinking the wrong Genre. It's not Anime, it's Comics. Imagine a full page spread of Captain Imperium punching out Tywin Lannister.
No, @Azel is correct. IF wielded as a 2-handed martial weapon, then bastard swords get the damage multiplier from Power Attack because they are a 2-handed martial weapon. But if you use them as a trained exotic weapon in one hand, it doesn't work. No, the increase is about leverage, not weight or length of the weapon, which still isn't a 2-hander.
So I've not been keeping close track of the quest for the past week beyond reading story posts, what's been going...
A new project apparently. So are we making Space Marine expys or something? What's all this stuff about Praetorians about? We already have the Legions (2 of them so far...) right?
I dislike it. Nettles should not have armor that lowers her Ride skill, or that has a non-zero ASF chance.@TalonofAnathrax, Nettles' armor is incorrect.
Rather than a +1 mithral chain shirt, we gave her this:
Reinforced Segmented Valyrian Steel Fullplate (+2; Resist Fire 20 and SR 12)
Also, Sheepstealer has this:
Valyrian Steel Dragon Barding (Immunity to Compulsions; Can cast Haste on self 3/day)
She got her armor before any retraining was done, so it makes sense.I dislike it. Nettles should not have armor that lowers her Ride skill, or that has a non-zero AMF chance.
She doesn't have magic yet. Until she actually becomes a mage the ASF argument doesn't hold water for me.I dislike it. Nettles should not have armor that lowers her Ride skill, or that has a non-zero AMF chance.
We can get her a good Ride skill booster for cheap.Nettles, Dragonrider

Dragonriding (Ex): A dragonrider may add his class level as a bonus to any Ride checks made in conjunction with riding a dragon. In addition, any dragon ridden by a dragonrider enjoys maneuverability of one grade better than normal (maximum perfect maneuverability). For instance, an adult green dragon with a dragonrider astride it has average maneuverability rather than poor.
Immune to Frightful Presence (Su): While mounted on or within 10 feet of his dragon mount, a dragonrider is immune to the frightful presence of dragons.
Mounted Spellcasting (Ex): A dragonrider has a +5 bonus on Concentration checks made to cast a spell while riding a mount.
Flyby Attack (Ex): Any dragon mount ridden by a dragonrider of at least 4th level is treated as having the Flyby Attack feat.
Spur Mount (Ex): A 5th-level dragonrider can make a DC 20 Ride check to spur her dragon mount to greater speed. Success on this check increases the dragon's speed (flying and otherwise) by 50% (round down to the nearest 5-foot increment), for 5 rounds.
Mounted Attack: A dragon rider can always attack on the same round as his dragon cohort, and is not required to make a Ride check to do so.

@Goldfish, you'll notice that she's horribly under-geared, for a level 12 PC. Fix it!
@all: both builds are quite similar, with the second one achieving things through shared spells that the first one gets through class abilities. I couldn't take Spellsword (it was just too limiting skill-wise and it decreased HP too much) but she doesn't have any direct attack spells either. In combat, she should be buffing and protecting her mount while it burns things to death and/or tears them apart. Note that the Dragon isn't incredibly high-OP either (no Beast Strike, subpar skills that fit his background as a nighttime sheep thief very well but cost feats): he is Int 1 and running on instinct rather than training, after all... Still, with 25HD and a few buffs he should definitely be able to tangle with CR-appropriate (12-ish) threats!
As for future progression? I like the idea of simply continuing in Stalwart Battle Sorcerer. Next level she'll have the CL to Teleport a Huge creature, after all.
