So, I consider DV pretty useless much of the time, but it has an interesting interaction with high armour value when there is low AP. Which actually seems to be the default for spirit beasts:

3 damage repeats each round -4 to all clashes, -4 speed
Now, I am going to assume
@yrsillar has forgotten AC gave +1DV to Cui, because reading this means Cui has 3DV and it seems too low. Still, Cui apparently has 4DV (and Bonus 3 damage that repeats). Neither Cui nor Zhengui are 'low quality' spirit beasts, and while they aren't strength-type, they are not small squishy ones either.
This means that the wolves most like have DV3/4.
In practice, this means that Zhengui, who has armor 7 usually (natural 5 + TRF1 + Roots 1), literally cannot be hurt by a wolf attacking him with 1AP and +2 bonus damage. Considering that zhengui with us should have around 26~ defence, even in the worst case scenario where he gets surrounded by 10+ wolves for 1 turn, they will do 0 damage to him. He can actually last 4+ turns like this without any damage (good durability and armor regen), and by then we could use HRA, bringing him back up to invulnerable.
However, in practice, hunting the wolves would mean hunting 2/3 at a time, slowly and steadily.
So,
@Alectai, if you are choosing worm culling because of fear for Zhengui, please don't. Zhengui is a Good Boy.
