I don't think it's clear at all what "appropriate arts" are, although I definitely agree that we have none trained at the moment. I really wonder if AC counts; it seems to be weapon agonostic after all. We'll have to actually train it to see if a sound attack at 10 meters counts for AC.
What part of Crawling Horror could ever trigger a clash?
In fact, we use it and the worms act at the end of a turn. That is to say, that we may see summon>4 other characters move>worm attacks.
If we, I dunno, summoned the worm by throwing it at people that might give the technique bonus, but it's not like CG where we use it as part of an action to dodge. We'd be summoning instead of attacking or doing something that would trigger a clash.
Edit: It's comparable to pre-popping CG when we're not being attacked, say to move on a slope, and getting punched later that round, which presumably wouldn't give us the dice for activating an art since it wasn't used as part of the clash.
Her offer is still many a week away from having to be answered. This week we consult Meizhen abouth the whole vassalage thing, and we will see if we want to accept if from ANYONE.
After that, we can work on getting closer to Renxiang, and decide if she would be an acceptable liege.

I'll start with my comments on what they both share.
EPC to EPC is very hilarious to me. Meheheheheheheehehneen! Eventual Exponential growth yo!
Don't much care about pills.
They both have Zhengui, as is right and proper. I'm kinda curious if he got a permanent "trick" from the multi color ash breath. Glitterdust?
Would be very very amusing to have a giant tortsnek who pukes rainbows at you popping out of mist while leading a gang of mini-graboids.
They have train with Su Ling, Meizhen, and the GF's but they do different things so I'll talk about that later.
Scouting out the Princess' base has me leary, but we have *stupid* levels of stealth, so it sorta balances. And like Alectai said its probably just good policy to assume that the recent major change in the counter matrix you apply to us will be discovered in the next couple of weeks. Additionally they are still most likely in the resettling phase, hmmmm, I wonder if Renshu might be there? Anyway they are still a bit unsettled so we should be able to glean a large amount of intel from their movements. Also if shit is really out of wack and there is an imminent attack we should be able to escape and warn Cai.
As for minors they share.
I like that they both have the Suyin minor, hopefully we get Vault Guardian out of it. (WE MUST PROTECT THE TORTSNEK! WITH SKELLINGTONS!) Also spoiders are cute.
Both have the trade techs with Han Jian, which I'm just like *shrug* with a side order of kinda not wanting. We already have a shitload of arts to train up for the tourney and this would be yet another weight on our time. On the other hand someone did raise a good point that a body strengthening art would be pretty good for the tourney(which I interpret as possibly giving us both temp health boxes and MOAR speed and dodge) and I am kinda intrigued to see how it fits in with the Battlespace I have developing in my head(I'll get to that later in this post). And since both have it, I am just gonna have to deal with it so
Speaking with Meizhen before we talk to Cai or GG just makes sense, and it also sounds like it might get deeper than that and go to our relationship with BestSnek which I like and may eventually at the end get to breakthrough stuff. (Thank god for our hideous amounts of QI giving us another minor)
As for stuff they don't share.
I really actually want to talk to GG Bro because he is awesome, but that should show up next week. And so should the hang out with Cai minor. I don't want to front load all the Cai stuff though, since I feel it interferes with some other things I want to do(the bag and music).
Find Meridians has the shaman bag thing in it, which could be arts, pills or something personal to the shaman which we may or may not get a use out of. I think the breaking of the bag also counts as a Larceny test so we can send that to EPC, if we didn't want to do Sun Liling Palace of Blood Doom. Since we do though this is immaterial for that benefit. Instead I really like it cause it sorta synergizes with Suyin and may get us more amazing drugs. Imagine something like Sable Light for AE..... mmmmmmmmmmmmm. I WANT ALL THE DRUGS!
And then we have the music with BestFox. Eeeeee. Yes. Especially with our Music breakthrough. Personally I really like this because we can see more about our new Music Meridian and soul music upgrade. We can also raise exp in Expression and start working towards getting the nice sonic attacks from FVM up higher.
Okay so to get my squeee out about our music meridian. WE ARE LITERALLY "PLUCKING" PEOPLE'S SOULS! That is insane and I love Ice Mom for giving it to us, even though I am a bit leary of her method. I could totally see Ling Qi doing a little show for a deaf spirit or mortal and enjoying it. It may or may not impress Ruan, we will have to see. Also it is the kind of hax bullshit I love. You plug your ears? Well to bad! Its in your souuuuuullllll oooooooooh!
Now arts wise I don't have a lot of comment.
They both grab TRF, but with different people. Find Meridians does it with GF, while Surprise! does it with Su Ling. I don't really mind either way, though going at it with GF seems pretty neat. Using it in a slightly different but familiar context seems like a good idea. I'm curious how Han Fang is. He was pretty cool too.
EPC with Su Ling is very interesting, I don't think we've ever done that before. Plus the music... waaaaaait. Are we trying to woo BestFox?
I mean, I am totally okay with this but still. What would happen if BestSnek found out
Anyway this is a very soul filled action which should be interesting to read.
AM and Meizhen again... is she going to torture us mentally again? Hmmm. *looks up* This is going to be a weird week, I can feel it, if we take Find Meridians.
Hmmm looking at it all the tipping things are that I want the shaman bag and music so I'll go with Find Meridians.
[X] Plan Find Meridians
Battlespace Talk.
So I've been spending a lot of time thinking about how Ling Qi comports herself in the arena of battle.
The first thing I realized is that she has "zones" of battle, which have various limits as to damage and techniques she can apply to an enemy.
The first zone is between 250 meters and 80 meters. This is a sniping zone, wherein we can really only use FSA. The most optimum use I can find for this would be if we spot an enemy or are assaulting an enemy camp and know where our target is and have a decent vantage point (Which may just be flying with our gown in a little hop as silly as that sounds) we can spam them with arrows until the enemy approaches. Given the width of this zone being 170 meters and most movement speeds being around 20 and 40 at double move at our current level, that is around four rounds to get there at which we could snipe. Our damage output is a bit low though, so what I really see this as is as a lure stage to get the opponent/opponents headed for us. Ling Qi is not especially dangerous and is also not especially at risk unless the opponent has a sniping art of high caliber, since she can easily flee from engagements started in this zone.
The second zone is between 80 and 20 meters. This is where FVM becomes active if we spread it to its full extent. We can also apply FSA if we so wish, though we often do not. If we start a battle in this range with an opponent or a group they are going to experience upwards of a -6 to their physical defense, with a -2 to all clashes from Elegy or is isolated if we use the single target form. This is also the range we usually have been playing at. Its of some risk to Ling Qi here, but she can still pretty easily escape an engagement, and she is getting more dangerous at this point.
The third zone is between 20 and 10 meters. This is a new zone, and one which is especially dangerous since we have AE now. Here I would expect opponents to deal with AE, FVM, and with the Worms(and eventually Zhengui too). We can also use Encircling Winds here if I recall correctly and that stacks very very well with the Worms. FSA falls off in usefulness since we are generally focused on playing and supporting here and usually use the knives. One notable issue is that most opponents can cross this gap in a single move action and then attack Ling Qi herself. Considering all the various bonuses we have and the amount of things happening to an opponent I think this is pretty much the optimum range for an attrition fight. It has quite a bit of risk for Ling Qi, but she can with effort escape in theory.
The fourth zone is between 10 and 0 meters. Also a new zone this area lets us use the new attack passive from FVM and use AE. Here our theoretical damage output is the highest, as with our current expression of five(six with specialty) we can attack with DV 5 attacks and can in theory get enough successes over someone if most of her debuffs stuck. The Worms and AE and Encircling Winds also apply. I'm not sure of the exact amount of our highest theoretical damage output, but taking down a Red in one attack should be easy with the worms and everything else also attacking. Additionally here is about when I think Zhengui really excels as our shield and can start to really harry the opposition along with the Worms once he gets strong enough to fight with us. An issue here is that we are *stuck in* as it were and cannot easily escape from an opponent without a lot of effort as they likely have similar speed to us to get this far in.
As a note the new SCS level means that for the third, fourth, and the near edge of the second zones we can in theory have a plus ten dice roll to our first clash with the sonic attack if we pop out in their shadow if we can wrangle in attacking first. Which translates to about an extra ~5 successes, which overwhelms the auto successes of our Green year mates with a little extra left over. I also think we can use One With Shadow in any light, so long as there are human sized shadows in range.
Looking back to the Thunderdome Redux Sun was throwing around 28 dice and 4 autos against us, for a total of ~19 successes, though given our rank up it'd be +2 autos now and possibly slightly fewer dice she would throw. Comparing us now to her then we throw something like 30 to 32 dice if we get first strike and One With Shadow for ~16 successes. So I think in just number of dice we can throw we can equal the number of dice Sun can throw if we set up well. Which is interesting considering we are at Late Yellow. She definitely has gotten stronger though so I expect this to still be very very tilted in her favor in any hypothetical confrontation we have with her.
All in all I think we ranked up from "Hey, I need to stab that bitch" to "Fuuuuuck she's annoying! Time to stab a bitch!" Once we rank to Green and Bronze I expect to at least be able to stall her up in a tarpit like tactic if we go full bore. Don't expect to beat her though, though that assessment will probably change when we advance and cap out some more arts.
Anyhoo~ by doing this little thought path I've decided that some of the best things we can do to make Ling Qi more effective in battle in her optimum ranges are raise AE to cap, along with TRF and FZ if we can manage it. Depending on what AC and AS do those might need to be swapped in. What I am really hoping for is that AE's range and qi regen rise(especially if it changes to 1 qi regained per turn per wounded opponent), and the Worms get stronk. Additionally dumping omake points into Zhengui, either pre-hibernation or during the process, seems like a good idea as he will be our shield and heavy single hitter.

Crawling Horror: ooo
Cost 10 Qi
Effect may only be used in low light or darkness. The user shapes their qi into the mold of the the things which crawl far below the earth. This wormlike creature forms within five meters of the user and acts last in the turn. The worm has three health boxes and uses the user's attributes for defense and offense, with a five die bonus to both pools. It's attacks are DV 4, with one point of armor penetration. Targets struck by the worm are grappled, suffering a four die penalty to defense in addition to being unable to move until they break free. Up to one additional worm may be summoned for 6 additional qi. Worms count as Early Yellow/Silver combatants and last three turns, or until destroyed.
Woo. A turn where our rolls didn't totally suck. Finally.
Zequing's section was great and that music element and bonus is amazingly good. Definitely a reason to get more music arts.
Zhengui is still adorable.
The new techs are awesome. And so much Qi .
Anyway I've seen people talking about the fact that breaking through requires several rolls, so we should start early to minimise the time we need to breakthorugh once we start trying seriously.
I am very much against this without more information from yrsillar. I'm concerned that you may 'lock' what bonuses you can get for your breakthrough at the point you start trying to complete it, not the point where you actually break through. So we could lose several of the bonuses we hoped to gain because we were greedy and impatient. To me this seems like something that could easily happen in the setting as a form of retribution from heaven against the arrogant who seek to grow before they are truly ready.
Nah. We want Han Jian in order to determine meridians for AS so that we can open them next week. But I can add in a Free action to tell Meizhen we're planning to scout for Sun Liling's base.
Ah, good point. That being said, we don't necessarily need to know yet. We can guess that it will need at least 1 spine. So we get that open in advance. We can then use the Eightfold bonus roll on whatever the other meridian is. We open spine and arm next week instead of spine/whatever.
My point wasn't just about telling people what we're doing though - it was about seeing if Cai already has intel on things like her defenses or patrols, and if there's anything in particular she'd be interested in.
-Instruments wielded by the user may be used to make sound based attacks at up to ten meters range. These attacks may be used in conjunction with appropriate arts without interrupting the melody. DV equals manipulation or expression, whichever is higher.
Assuming I'm reading this correctly... Like how we could kick people in the face while playing as an Unarmed attack, this allows us to Flute at people to do damage while still playing (or even without playing FVM at all).
So,
Manipulation and Expression are both 5, +4 for our nice flute, +2 for FVM, +1 for woodwind speciality,
17 dice pool, DV5 attack. +/- cultivation autosuccesses. It's ok, I guess? Neat for a free thing,
Have I missed anything?
EDIT: 'tis sad we no longer have the minor to play at Meizhen.

Just the first attack bonus FVM has as a passive, and the One With Shadow technique which I think can be used in any light level so long as there are shadows. So 27 dice, which is nearly as much as Sun Liling threw facing us in Thunder Dome Redux. Additionally if these attacks count for the Woodwind specialty level two that means we'd be hitting as a Early Green, on the same realm as Sun so no autos.
Granted she is probably stronger than she was then, almost certainly.
Ling Qi has just unlocked a major music buff. At the same time she has been through quite a lot recently, with Xiulan's nearly killing herself (and Ling Qi's small amount of guilt over the jealosy aspect that helped push her to it), Yan Renshu, dealing with Cai's offer and the feelings of betrayl that Zequing's actions caused.
I think she needs to do something fun. I also think she should reconnect with music as an activity she does purely for enjoyment, especially with the fact that most music she plays is not happy music. The cultivation arts she plays with music are sad and unpleasant. Playing with or for a friend could be a good way to destress and relax a bit. Allow Ling Qi to stretch her creative wings and have fun with some of her freedom.

Demanding any constructs to be equal to the summoner is rather greedy, isn't it? You're adding another combatant. Even if it's weaker than all the others, it's still quite the advantage as long as it doesn't instantly die to random AoE.
Like, in card games along the lines of MtG, suppose a creature that summons another. If each of these eats a card from your opponent to deal with each of these, playing the single card generates card advantage—having more resources left. They also have to spend time dealing with your extra threats if they demand extra answers—so you gain tempo. There's lots of famous cards like this. In Ling Qi's system, if Ling Qi summons the worms, assuming they're durable and threatening 'enough', they can generate an advantage (in terms of qi or spent actions), even if they're not precisely an equal to her or her opponent.
Against an opponent with mostly single target answers, the worst case scenario is Ling Qi coming out even on actions, down on qi—this demands that the worm be one-shotable by the opponent and that Ling Qi only summons one worm. Given that Ling Qi has unusual qi reserves and acceptably Darkness-focused expenses, even this is not exactly a bad scenario. If Ling Qi spends 6 qi she gains an action against this single-target focused opponent, which is immense; not to mention that the extra worm got an attack off. Regardless of the outcome of that attack, Ling Qi's use of Crawling Horrors is a win.
Against an opponent with AoE answers, but AoE answers insufficient to oneshot the worms, then Ling Qi gains actions and is even on qi, and the worms can even get a chance to attack, at which point the worms have had actual tangible effect on the battle, which is either an opponent being grappled (and becoming easier for all the other effects to hit, ignoring any Ling Qi allies) or applying multiattacker penalties in the absolute worst case.
Against an opponent with AoE answers sufficient to oneshot the worms, well, this is clearly the wrong tool for the job. Just make them become lost with the new Elegy tech, so that they can't afford to do their blasting job without hitting their own allies, and don't swarm a blaster. This scenario is only relevant, then, if Ling Qi is not aware of her opponent's answers.
While that is going to be a reasonably common thing, especially in the wider world, partial-information games like battle are not unbeatable, especially if Ling Qi begins to play the information game more.
Crawling Horrors is an important part of Ling Qi's toolbox. Opponents without clean answers either get bogged down by the worms or use up actions dealing with the adds, and opponents shown to have clean answers can be whisked into the nightmare realm of Ling Qi's personal Encircling Winds attention, or just lost conveniently on their way to the battle.
So, I'm going to talk about FVM for a bit, most specifically about Starlight Elegy. The reason? It is awesome and I would like to talk about how excited I am for it.
Starlight Elegy: ooo
Cost 7
The mournful and despairing tune saps the energy of those not insulated from the mist, making their limbs heavy and their thoughts clouded. Targets suffer a two die penalty on all clashes, and lose three qi per turn spent in the mist. Affected targets must make a two success resolve test in order to act on their first turn after being affected.
--Despair of the Lost
Alternatively, the power of the Elegy may be focused on a single target, drowning them in the endless mist, leaving them to wander as if alone and far from from home. On a successful clash, the target receives the normal effects of the starlight Elegy. In addition, the user makes a stealth test roll. The target and their allies must surpass the users stealth in order to perceive one another. While under this affect, allies cannot target or affect the victim deliberately, nor may the victim target them.
So, first off, normal Starlight elegy stuff. Qi drain got bumped up to 3, but other than that, nothing changed. Pretty good.
Then, we have the "Despair of the Lost" which looks fantastic and I love it. The mechanics, however, seem slightly confusing. First off there must be a successful clash against a single target. Fair enough, we can do that. They get affected by normal elegy, but what happens next is slightly confusing.
A stealth roll is proced, by us (we have very good chances at succeeding this). The target and their allies must surpass this roll in order to perceive one another. There doesn't seem to be any second chances here, no retries.
Lastly, should a person be under this effect, their allies can not target or affect the victim deliberately, and vice versa. This is the slightly confusing part, but what I am getting from this is that while the target could see us and their allies could see us and affect us, they can not affect each other. This denies any and all types of buffs, and presumably passives as well (although passives might not be intentional and as such exempt). It appears that one must dispell the effect, or the mist, in order to be relieved from this effect.
What this means for us! It means people in our mists will not be able to buff the target, and presumably will be unable to coordinate with the target. If it can only be removed with a dispell art, and we target the dps person who probably doesn't have good dispell arts, then chances are that he will be stuck like that for the rest of the fight. Or we can do it against the support so that all of her arts are fairly useless in a fight.
All in all, while this doesn't stop them from attacking us, or us from attacking them, it does stop stacking buffs on a person and forces people to fight us as individuals rather than as a group, and that destroys the power of grouping up against a foe. Our group will be able to fight as a group, while their group will be able to fight only as individuals. An amazing addition to FVM's arsenal of darkness, death, misery, and pain.
