Going for the border would be safer for us on a personal level, but would mean we couldn't then move to help the others, as we'd be relying on her sister as protection - and her sister can't come with us to the others. It seems like a case of "win the battle, lose the war".

Maybe something like us slipping out ahead of them, have Gu and Fan Yu breakout, and then counter-ambush those who want to ambush them?
It's also sad to see the fault-lines in the Ling Qi/Bai Meizhen relationship be so obvious. Even Sun Ling and Li Suyin can see it.

Meizhan made the smart choice. This was a trap meant to waste resources away from where the main fight is happening.
*sigh* Even after trying to make it better with Meizhen the SL is still slipping away...

So, we're talking about escape means on the discord and two things came up: we have Qi cards with Formless shade we can give them to boost their stealth and we can also help them with our mist. With these two things, we stand a chance to avoid triggering the alarm. Something to keep in mind.

Unless someone comes up with a good Write-in, I think this is the way to go. Heading down would essentially end the fighting, and I don't think this situation is remotely desperate enough to go running to an Inner Sect disciple. Going for support first is likely not going to work as everyone is tied up elsewhere anyway.
Might want to have a go at disabling the formations if we can or otherwise getting around them, we should try and sneak them out with whatever we can.
Of course, we could just give her some pills or something, leave her here and then go meet up with Cai?

Alright so we had some furious discussion in the discord and ran some ideas by Yrsillar and it turns out that FVM can assist us in stealthing past this formation as it muffles our Qi, and formless shade can also do so.
Given these revelations we've come up with

Just, you know. The people in the forest will notice the mist and hear someone playing a flute.
It was a bad choice.
Sun went out of her way to send a stronger person with support after us to keep us out of the fighting. Our current best friend was left out in a cage like a piece of bait.
Sun played Ling Qi like a fiddle. Unless we manage to slip the net quickly we will be out of the fighting until she is done, as she almost certainly intended.

Whatever this trap is, it's probably not there for us? This Renshu seems like he's involved with Sun's plan, so he should be expecting Chu to tie us up.
Otoh, they might not be communicating well, so he might not know that.
The trap's worrying though. They might be hoping to catch us with it when we try to leave... So we need to make sure that we aren't caught at least...

The trap might very well be for Han Jian and Han Fang... and it doesn't guarentees we're out of the fight that really matters. Making sure that Cai's faction doesn't splinter through people being wounded/etc helps a lot.
I'm mostly sad Ling Qi forgot to tell Meizhen about Kang Zihao. That was a blunder.
Still, we went after Gu Xiulan, and I'm really glad we did. It was very likely she was being targeted and us being here now that worse come to worse our relationship with GF group won't sour.

Formless Shade should give them +3 to stealth, and MotV +2. While there is some risk about conspicuous mist attracting people, they know where Gu Xiulan is anyway.

Remember that Meizhen still came here to help us first! Cai is making some kind of move, but she still chooses us and our safety over Cai and her faux government. She just didn't choose to help a friend of a friend once she was sure that Ling Qi is safe. I like that she's got her own priorities in these situations, and happy that we were considered so important still.

I would like to break out and help the main fight. We could leave ourselves, but that has a bad taste in my mouth and there is no guarantee that we would find other people to help out Xiulan. As such, sneaking out of the cage with the cards (that I totally knew were going to be useful eventually. yep!) is probably our best bet. If we don't succeed, we can still make a run for it and a fighting retreat.
A nasty situation we are in, but we do have the tools to fix it.

Man, 8 or 9 enemies, none below late second realm - which implies at least one is green and/or bronze. There's a good amount of heavy hitters in the second and third year outer disciplines isn't there?

I hope we can sneak by because I very much doubt we can take 8 or 9 late second realm cultivators, much less if they have spirit beasts companions and some are third realm.
