Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

Gather info before engaging. Especially when dealing with spirits. We don't want to accidentally piss something off and make things worse for this region. And I want hints about its attributes and possible weaknesses before engaging. This is a 25 point mission that's technically going to be meant for inner disciples soon, let's not screw it up by rushing in.

[x] Retreat, you should speak with the guards and workers for more clues before you engage anything.

Yeah, basically, I can see this going wrong no matter what we do. Staying put might very well end up fighting two threats at once, running forward falls into a trap, going back means we lose the trail and they're warned that disciples are chasing them. Or worse, that the most recent batch dies before we can find them. (Which I think is pretty likely)

And because we didn't grab intel, it means that we have no idea what the right choice is here at all. No clues or anything.

When in doubt, charge. Worst case scenario, we'll mess up horribly and get all of our friends killed, including us. But what are the odds of that happening?

Why the heck did we just rush in for...

Yep.

For what it is worth, what we are doing is just ...reckless, but not really actively suicidal. If we are not just kinda lucky but actually seriously lucky, we might even get some additional benefits out of this, instead of, let's say, having to bail with SCS while leaving Su Ling behind. That would suck.

Ling Qi herself is prolly going to get out of this alive regardless unless we are both seriously unlucky and then make stupid decisions to capitalize on that; between her cultivation and SCS she is pretty well-built for bailing out of trouble when it is too much for her to handle.

Could we give a qi card with SCS to Su Ling in case we need to hurry out.
Not the full set of effects, no, which would rather hinder it's effectiveness. Because we apparently filled them all with one technique, while full kit trackless escape is also required for the proper getaway.

QI CARDS CONTINUE BEING MISUSED WHAT A SURPRISE

Imprinting and giving them out now means we're using up Qi, anyway.

Also, voters don't seem to be interested in sharing techs or Qi cards, so misusing them is not quite right? They aren't used.

I kinda want to spend inner disciple time or omake points leveling investigation but I don't write and it seems like a waste of sect points

Don't think it's going to win, but I'm always in favor of finding things out before we jump in.

Trackless Escape isn't the important part, really. Crescent Grace and Shadeless Form is. Trackless Escape is to help us not be followed, which, while nice, is something Su Ling is already good at. Her being able to move quicker and her escaping traps are more important here.

But apparently people don't care about that. Seems like they just don't want to use them in what appears to be a optimal manner- to increase the breadth of toolkits of our teams.
I wonder if this whole mist thing is yet another attempt to set us up.
It's clearly going to be a Fog-off.

... yeah, on second thought

Not interrogating either the guards or families - who may be knowledgeable about local spirits or legends - was a mistake in the first place. Fuck this noise.

It wasn't. It meant being able to save the people being currently kidnapped, and it also meant curtailing the chances of being sold out by a traitor. Going to the guards meant trusting their insight and their loyalty over the villagers' and yourselves, going to the villagers meant trusting their down to earth attitude over the guards and your own abilities, and the current 'retreat' choice means not trusting ourselves to be able to save the villagers/guards being currently kidnapped and giving them up.

It's a valid decision, but it's not 'a mistake to do anything else'. Maybe we shouldn't be trusting ourselves, yes. But we are currently trying to have more confidence in ourselves and stop always being too afraid of failures to do what we want to do.

So I much, much prefer trying to save people and stop the spirit (if it needs to be stopped) rather than giving up on them to possibly raise our odds a bit higher against the spirit.

Yep! The I'm a US Marine. A US Marine can take anything! option.

While they might be able to give us useful clues as to what the spirit might be, I fail to see how their "knowledge of local spirits or legends" might help here. Remember that we are in the backyard of the Argent Sect. If there was obvious precedent here, the Sect would know of it.

If we wanted to investigate more cautiously, we should have done that from that start.

What, are people at risk of dying immediately if we don't go now? I thought they'd already been kidnapped, and a day or two of travel/investigation one way or the other wouldn't really make much of a difference. I had the impression we were investigating the scene first so Su Ling could show off her skills. She's shown her skills, she can relay her observations to the guards; now let's retreat and go back for intel before engaging the whatever this is. I want details on how and when people have been disappearing. Might give us hints on the kidnapper's preferences, and thus maybe their weaknesses.
