And us picking Water gets us -2 to each Qi cost, +2 to attack rolls, and at least +5 to training rolls, possibly +8 if you assume we'd be suing the spiritual-cultivation boosting pill (which happens to boost water arts) anyways.
Also, while I like being an endurance monster, one of the primary reasons we want an Arm art in the first place is for burst damage, and going for an endurance based art doesn't really align with that.
Basically this yeah. Not really. It being a spine art gets us our spine bonus, and should shift the benefits more towards the passive and lasting rather then the turn by turn. We're an endurance monster, outlasting our opponents should remain something we invest in.
With regards to our spirit turtle. A couple of people have talked about fitting our arts to said turtle, but I think that it is far too early to do that.@yrsillar is ice just wind/water or a seperate element? Or I suppose it could be both...
I feel guilty for it but I can't help but think how much more those two fit Ling Qi than the fire/mountain turtle. Opposites attract though I guess and at least this way we cover a wide variety of elements and styles.
Obviously for some cultivators it costs them their pride or sense of dignity. It is very easy to imagine cultivators seeing Hanyi as a little shit that is trying to ruin their mission with a game that is beneath them. What some cultivators haven't seemed to get yet, is that it costs literally nothing to be polite to people and spirits we meet. So it could be that because we are polite we aren't slapped down as some upstart angry cultivator that is on a one-man crusade against the institution.
(Looking at you Ji Rong!)
This is mostly the part where I'd want to survey for what kinds of arts each element is good for in a particular Meridian. We're early enough that we should shop the market rather than bet on preconceptions. Finally, the art we are picking up now is off of the first floor, which means it is liable to be temporary. Our spirit is going to be a long-term companion; if we are picking out a choice that synergies with it , it is better to do so for a long-term choice. In contrast, picking elements that match our current situation (for example, as determined by current talismans and location) is far more appropriate for a lower-level art that we will probably swap out at some point.
The only thing I disagree with here is that I'm reasonably convinced Meizhen doesn't have enough meridians to use all 8 of her arts at the same time.* Meridians are hard to clear and without omake power there's a hard limit to how many you can get at each level. At a certain point arts become a toolkit to be swapped as appropriate. With regards to our spirit turtle. We only really have a cloud of conjecture regarding the turtle, so anything we try is going to be somewhat hit-or-miss. We don't even know what elements exactly the turtle will have, much less what bonuses it will give and what will synergize with what. Far better to wait until the spirit has hatched before making these sorts of decisions.
Also, it is critical to note that we will be opening LOTS of meridians in the future, and learning a number of arts. Meizhen apparently had 8 arts last time we talked to her, and AM makes 9 for her; if we want to match that we have a long way to go. Right now, we've got SCS + FVM + ZB + AM, and are about to get a fifth art - but that still leaves at least 3-4 "slots" open to learn more arts. We have more than enough room to pick up elements that benefit from our spirit turtle once we know what those benefits (and those elements!) actually are.

I did the maths, ALL THE PILLS gets us ~69% of the way there.Though we should, since are target is somewhere around 45-50, and that's going to take a few rolls to get to.

I do like the idea of learning what kind of arts are possible. What we don't know may translate into major missed opportunities, with us going for obvious options where something we haven't seen yet could provide major synergy with our build. In fact, @yrsillar - is a primer on what Red/Yellow arts are capable of something we might expect to find in the Archive? This is mostly the part where I'd want to survey for what kinds of arts each element is good for in a particular Meridian. We can afford to wait a bit before Sable light so it's more effective (both for 3rd yellow stone, better EPC, and pills that give meridian/art action), but as long as we make good use of lesser pills and keep at it we probably can get to 45-50 in not too long.I did the maths, ALL THE PILLS gets us ~69% of the way there.
Should probably do it the week after, as this next one has a slot for Cai Quest.
Well she has been cultivating since 8 and lots of open meridians is the only benefit I can think she might have to show for it. As well as those with spirit ancestry often being born with some open meridians. The only thing I disagree with here is that I'm reasonably convinced Meizhen doesn't have enough meridians to use all 8 of her arts at the same time.* Meridians are hard to clear and without omake power there's a hard limit to how many you can get at each level. *I'm assuming her family based arts are at least as good as FVM or SCS here and are therefore meridian hogs.
That is a good point, and we might start running into this problem eventually. However, I don't think we are nearly there yet, and with the push from the Sable Light Pill plus the Highsun pill, we should be able to get enough "extra" meridians open to account for our needs. The only thing I disagree with here is that I'm reasonably convinced Meizhen doesn't have enough meridians to use all 8 of her arts at the same time.* Meridians are hard to clear and without omake power there's a hard limit to how many you can get at each level. Meridians are basically the one thing that cultivating early don't really help with, as you are softcapped anyway by needing a certain amount of success per action. It basically ends up with her not being able to get much farther than 14 or so meridians before Yellow, and 30 or so at late yellow/silver (except she was at mid yellow at the beginning of the quest).Well she has been cultivating since 8 and lots of open meridians is the only benefit I can think she might have to show for it. Well now I don't want to cultivate it until we've used our last Sable light pill so this can happen:Yeah, but that still means we need to cover 31% of the distance without all the pills, which means a turn or two devoted to raising Qi. We've never directly cultivated it you know.
...There needs to be a facepalm rating.Well now I don't want to cultivate it until we've used our last Sable light pill so this can happen:
Ling Qi: "Bai Meizhen, could you give me some advice?"
Meizhen: "Yes, what is it Ling Qi?"
Ling Qi "Could you help me with Qi cultivation? I've never done it before."
Meizhen, looking at Ling Qi who is sitting there with around 50 Qi. *Stares at Ling Qi for around 30 seconds*
Ling Qi shuffles akwardly.
Meizhen "Of course you haven't. I suppose I could give you some instruction this week, but I'm busy at present." Walks off to her room scream quietly at how unnatural herbest friendroommate is.
