Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

Does that mean if we choose Prisoner we would have turned into Giacomo Casanova?

I'm pretty sure everything would just be more on fire.

Assuming we were still female...

Bai Meizhen might have accepted our invitation to be housemates, but would have probably murdered/thrown us out/declared blood feud after a few days due to our inability to act respectful. Sun Liling would have almost definitely liked the cut of our jib, but probably only in small doses. Ideally, we'd pick a house of our own and defend it against all comers because I can't imagine a scenario where a roommate wouldn't eventually just get fed up and try to kill us in our sleep. (Writing Ji Rong made me realize he is the worst possible roommate to have, he'd leave dirty dishes out all the time, randomly destroy things while cultivating, practice arts and leave scorch marks all over the place, etc.)

Han Jian is the real wildcard here, would he have associated with us? Maaaybe. Fan Yu would have definitely encouraged him to let us go. Gu Xiulan's relationship to us would be very different, Thief Ling Qi hates the spotlight, Prisoner Ling Qi doesn't give af. I would say it could go either way: we might reinforce our worst aspects, or butt heads over everything.

In the end, I'd say that Han Jian relationship would have probably been over before it began solely because our own pride would make us look down on an indecisive pansy like Han Jian and since he already doesn't really like Fan Yu, having Poor Criminal Fan Yu around would have just made him roll his eyes and avoid us altogether.

Li Suyin... probably would have been accepted, but we would have magnified her insecurities as well as been quite rude about her beliefs in the essential decency of cultivators. Likely as not we would have gotten along with Su Ling though who shares a lot of our essential traits (hostility towards most cultivators, blunt speech and mannerisms, ostracism).

So, in the end...

1) No roommate

2) I think we would have tried to join Sun Liling's team for Zhou's test. Sun would have become our substitute-Bai. The competition would have been cruuuushed.

3) Li Suyin would have still tried to get us to help her practice cultivation, but it's Su Ling we would have become adequate friends with.

4) Huang Da would have become relevant earlier on. Probably would have had to deal with him right after Zhou's test and we got some sort of reward.

5) We are likely better at maximizing the effects of drugs than Ji Rong is. I can see us having managed to get Silver/Yellow before the truce ended. If you remove the numbers, then taking drugs is a lot of 'well, this one makes me slightly better at cultivating wind arts, yeah, idk, let me take a few of these pills and a few of those pills.'

6) The number of people we'd have pissed off just trying to make friends would have been legion. Which is probably why we would have given up before we even started.

7) Sun Liling is hoping we catch up real quick because she wants to have a match with us. Like, this isn't the Bai and Ling Qi relationship of peers that are nicely encouraging each other, this would be closer to Hisoka from HxH hoping Gon is gonna git gud soon because it'll be an awesome fight.

tl;dr everyone wants to kick our ass

They're not all inherently horrible monsters that want mankind to suffer you know.

This isn't western fantasy where supernatural creatures set things up so that you're doomed to fail. Spirits are inhuman and react in inhuman ways, yes, but if you play their games and win them, you gain their blessing in turn.

Very much this.
Eastern legends/spirits are very different from western ones, where unabridged brothers Grimm's tales are a horror with strong lovecraftian touch.

A friendly reminder that the Prisoner chargen doesn't have "Very low social ability" like Ling Qi, the Prisoner chargen has "Social Stigma". This means that Ji Rong's social ineptness is solely his character trait and most likely not a result of the chargen itself (consider how different Han Jian and Li Suyin are from the "High Noble" and "Artisan/Scholar" chargens). This means that while we are stigmatized, we'd likely have decent social ability. It's just that Ji Rong never bothers with anybody.

It probably wouldn't have been as horrible as you're conjecturing, but definitely worse than our current situation.

I wonder where we would be if we picked the artisan character.... the close family in the area would make us more towards Cais camp I suppose and if we were a guy then our bromance would have been Guan....

I ship it

Gan Guangli is pure awesome Man Meat marinated in Chivalry and glazed in Bombastic Niceness.

I ship Ling Qi and Guan so hard.

[X] Accept, surely it couldn't be that hard to catch her a couple of times, and resolve this without trouble

We have an auto success due to silver physical, pretty good athletics and dexterity, and both a perception and a movement art; all of the above make me pretty confident that this option is more than doable and it could pay to be in this spirits favor given spirits tend to gather around cultivation sites given there is more Qi available there.

It'll cost time and Qi, but we should have enough of the former with our skills particularly if it's made easier after playing with her, and we have plenty of Qi left over.

We have a good amount of dots in Dexterity as well as a perception art. I feel this is the safest course of action because the others risk annoying the spirit or endangering her.

You know I'm pleasantly surprised no one wanted to bind her.
Maybe far, far in the future. But right now we are not able to, and really, I wouldn't want to subject a child with family to a binding. We don't know who her mother is and so binding her child would prove very problematic. Also, it would be nice to be friendly with spirits that we aren't expecting to bind, might get gifts or quests from them.

Hmm I'm thinking this is a yukki onna spirit if a very young one. Still if it's young and already this rank imagine what it's mom must be !!

.....i think the Mother might be an Elder. Our pet will probably call us mom too.

"good job getting pass the little brat, you earn a months worth of lesson, along with a kid fron Bai. Wait, where is the brat?"
"mom help!"
*sweat drop intensifies*

Objections to binding such a spirit, in order:
  1. It is distasteful to forcibly bind a sentient that way,
  2. Doing so would anger a powerful spirit,
  3. And in fact, we can't even do such a binding, since AS5 only lets us bind Grade 1 spirits.
On top of all this, we don't even know that such a binding would be profitable. Unwilling spirits lock up extra Qi, and they won't be willing to assist us in combat, which make then FAR inferior to willing companions. Sure, they give passive bonuses - but we don't know if they will even exceed the locked Qi in value, much less by how much.

Also! While our Qi supply isn't too valuable to us at the moment given how large it is, I expect that pool to shrink considerably once we bind the Spirit-Turtle (remember, rare spirits have high Qi maintenance costs), so the tradeoff of Qi-to-bonuses is actually going to be worse for us than it appears right now.
