Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

AM= Argent Mirror Art? In that case I'd say no, as it increases by itself with Argent Vent, so no need to care about it for a while.

We have basic unarmed. We aren't very good with it, but we have oo of it, almost ooo.

It's not inefficient at all. It's trading +5 to combat art for +8 to everything.
It's trading up to +25 dice (on an all art cultivation week) for a +8 we're going to struggle to use weekly due to the rapidly approaching resource crunch. Remember that our combat art dice are nowhere near as good in the first place as our spiritual/physical dice and we don't get autosuccesses.

Given we're supposed to have 8 arts as a floor before green that's incredibly useful.

This is a very rare resource. Taking the extra week or even a second training action to get to mid-silver is more than worth it compared to saving it for a high art training week.

For example if we spent 10 of our current stones we could get bear marrow and white hart elxir, putting us to 37 dice for physical. 20.5 successes for the first action and 11 or so for the second action. It's slightly inefficent but far cheaper and less wasteful than using a starlight elixir only for the bonus physical roll.

[X] Plan Man Up

--[X] 3 red stones, Snowy Peak Pill
-[X] Train by hunting with Han Jian and his group
--[X] Physical
--[X] Ask Han Jian to give you a little instruction about the politics of your situation. He seems like a more unbiased source
-[X] Train at the vent with Suyin and Su Ling
--[X]Meridian arm
-[X] Cultivate on your own
--[X] Eight Phase Ceremony
-[X] Work on getting the egg to hatch
-[X] Take a job
--[X] Moonfill
-[X] Spend some time with Su Ling, perhaps you can learn a little bit of hunting tactics and harvesting from her
-[X] Accept Cai Renxiang's invitation to tea
-[X] Have a girls day out with Bai Meizhen and Gu Xiulan

Alright, so explanation time.

Physical so that we can get even closer to breaking through to breaking through to mid silver. Get an arm meridian so that we can start working on getting an arm art. Keep plucking away at EPC, so that when we get it we can see what it does as well as hopefully speeding up our cultivation. To that end, I'm using the Snowy Peak Pill to help with getting that off the ground and make up for the poor performance that the dice gave us last round. I'm working on the egg because it is going to be a time investment and the quicker we can get that hatched the better for the little tortoise. The job I'm taking is the Moonfill job so that we can get some extra cash as well as getting some sect points.

The social actions that I have are the questions to Han Jian, probably a bit before and after the hunting proper about what exactly our political position is. We should also get some training on proper hunting tactics and harvesting so that we don't botch the moonfill mission. Accept Cai Renxiang's invitation to tea, as we need to know what she is planning and the reasons why she invited us. And then have a girls day out with Bai Meizhen and Gu Xiulan to shore up our relations with them and relax after a pretty stressful week.
Wasting the Snowy Peak Pill since nothing is triggering the Qi rolls and the +5 is used on nothing.

@Thor's Twin
That Snowy Pill isn't going to do a thing, I don't think. I'm fairly sure it doesn't work on cultivation arts.

Yes, if we get ambushed (failing to use our perception arts which should be a focus), and if we get surrounded (failing to take advantage of our mobility, again, somewhere we should focus) and if we can't get away (failing again to use movement arts for evasion) and if we can't do more with debuffs (playing to our core competencies, which should be better than our melee skills) and if we can't find other defensively oriented weapons that just plain do this better (which would be odd since shields exist), then sure, the Guandao is a good weapon to focus on, granted, we're looking at significantly higher investment for it than for many other weapons.
I mean, we have already been in almost exactly that type of situation already with the encounter at the end of the Thunderdome. If Zihao had played that a little differently, then he and a couple of the other mooks could have taken care of Meizhen, while 6 mooks targeted us. We have friends who we want to protect, so we didn't run away from that fight, we forced into the confrontation by others, not of our own choosing, and they hard countered the perception debuffs. We turned out fine from the original encounter, but it would not be so hard to do the same thing to us as they did to Meizhen, but instead of Meizhen we were relaxing with Xiulan or going shopping with Li Suyin. Sometimes we will just have to fight when we would rather not, and be forced into melee when we would rather not. I would rather have a weapon that is good for clearing the area in front of us.

@Thor's Twin, if you use a Snowy pill, please at least either train AMA or another EPC so we get a second free Qi roll. Also a Qi Expansion Pill <_<
Alright, but it will take some finagling, and so it might be better to drop the snowy expansion pill and wait for next week to do that. Especially if we are training EPC and getting an art from the archives next week.

Keep in mind the +8 also applies to meridian and cultivation art, which are even worse than combat art. Yes, the +5 is good. It's however not that good, while the +8 is key to getting EPC up early, and EPC itself gives combat art dice, and so on and so forth.

[X] Plan Haitei

Best option so far.

@Thor's Twin Again I find your plan massively wasteful of higly valuable medicines. Snowy peak pill shouldn't be used without at least 2 arts being trained, more if possible.

@TheLastOne Can you please find somewhere to fit getting hunting tips from Su Ling into your plan? We know it's possible to ruin ingredients and beast cores and our survival is crap at the moment.

It'd call moonfill a half-strength cultivation action overall because of odds of a moon site, and the egg is de facto a cultivation action because it leads to us getting a protagonist power spirit ally.
I think that's a really lousy way to sort actions. Getting a site I could maybe see, if it's broadly applicable to almost everything Ling Qi does like the Argent Vent, but for example, the Mineral Spring has given her, what, twelve dice? And social benefits, but that's not really a 'cultivation action'. The egg is definitely not a cultivation action—it's an investment of actions that explicitly wouldn't help anything but hatch the egg. That's, like, the opposite of a cultivation action. Having a spirit will give passives, but that's more like an art...one that eats cores (and therefore actions) at an unknown rate, all the time.
We should have enough cores to cover a few weeks at present.
Fact is, we have no idea how much it eats. Ling Qi's got 8 or so cores right now and will probably pick up more incidentally on Moonfill, so call it that she's got 15. Some of those are kind of lame ones, but call it 15. Is that a month's worth? Does it eat a core a day, or a core a week? It'll probably eat as much as she gives it, since that's what babies do, but how much does it need? What's sustenance level for it? Ling Qi won't know. Maybe Meizhen will...is that a risk? How often does Cui eat? Cui isn't a baby anymore, and who knows if spirits go by 'biological' growth rules (probably not) but Cui would have happily eaten dozens of bats in one sitting (and is a snake so gorging is a thing...but anyway!). Is the baby tortoise-dragon thing comparable to Cui in voracity or not?

And that has been changed, so it is no longer massively wasteful. My plans are almost always in flux, so good suggestions and other critiques are welcomed. Changing the resources is one of the simplest to do.

[X] Plan A Moonless Night is Full of Stars
-[X] Resources
--[X] 3 Red Spirit Stones, Bear Marrow Elixer, Starlight Elixir, Steady Growth Pill
-[X] Train by hunting with Han Jian and his group
--[X] Physical
-[X] Train at the vent with Suyin and Su Ling
--[X] Spiritual
--[X] Li Suyin is doing better, coax her out into studying, and talk to her about her plans. Give her your last Qi Foundation Pill.
-[X] Take a job
--[X] Moonfill
-[X] Work on getting the egg to hatch
-[X] Cultivate on your own
--[X] EPC
-[X] Ask Han Jian to give you a little instruction about the politics of your situation. He seems like a more unbiased source

-[X] Bring up the idea of training together with Meizhen. You are strong enough now, right?

Stealing from Arkeus here, since they don't seem to be voting for their own plan yet.

Advantages: Moonfill, and potential event triggers there are accomplished. We likely break through to mid-silver, which helps future training and gives us leeway to ignore physical next week, which creates room for the archive. The egg is a must, as progress here means less effort later. We also stop neglecting our spiritual training, which is now going to be an entire level behind if we don't start catching up, and which progresses slower than physical. We also have less pills to make up rolls here. The breakthrough now means more successes toward meridians and arts later. So, while we don't get measurable progress toward an arm art now, there's definite increased room to do so next week. Moreover, EPC progresses, and if the event helps out as much as it might, we could easily get EPC next round, when we're looking at arts. In short, this makes more room to do arm arts by week 18, which is just as fast as training meridians now. However, this also gives us more bonuses to doing it next week.

Socially, we both accept Cai's invitation and mitigate it with an action focused on Meizhen. We also get Suyin working better, and work in the Han Jian action in conjunction with training.

Disadvantages: No measurable progress toward arm arts right now, but also no delaying in getting them. We don't find space to share AMA with Suyin/Ling this week. Somewhat suboptimal use of the starlight pill.

Given we're supposed to have 8 arts as a floor before green that's incredibly useful.

4 arts maxed, 4 others at low level is what was suggested. We could do that roughly next week for the limits of our current cultivation, the exceptions being AMA and SCS, AMA will take care of itself, and we will keep pushing SCS up when we have the time.

E.g., Maxed: (FVM, SCS, AMA, ZB Upgrade?) Others: (?????, ????, ????, ZB if unupgraded?)

I mean, we have already been in almost exactly that type of situation already with the encounter at the end of the Thunderdome. But that was an incredibly terrible fight and our build is nowhere complete yet? Like, the timeframe for training guandao up is months and months. It doesn't matter what happened to us now, with basic levels in our core skills. It matters what will happen to us later. Moreover, the Guandao would have done nowhere near enough to actually change that situation around.

and yeah you guys can vote to share the Mirror art
Following on question, could we actually arrange a miniature business with it given it's permanent nature? Set up something where you pay Ling Qi XYZ stones and you'll be able to learn it; and notably we're presumably going to be visiting Cai next turn if some extra help is needed and/or authority if you tie it into an overall governance structure being created if others wish to do the same with permanent arts they possess.

The art itself certainly seems valuable enough given it does something most people don't currently have an art for outside the elites, and it's an art the sect itself specializes in given the name. Given a one off archive pass for a technique on the first floor costs 10 sect points - the equivalent of 50 red stones - it could be a notable source of income if even just a few come to learn it. With this also comes interaction with other sect members, which of itself should improve her relationship with them.

To clarify, we cast Elegy against a large group of enemies. One of them uses Serene Reflection.

Now, is Elegy is gone for everyone in range, necessitating a recast to get the effect again? Or is that one individual immune to elegy for the remainder of the cast, but susceptible again if we recast it?

And is there any kind of hidden resistance to Serene Reflection, or does it perfectly dispel any debuff? Say, if we were a white cultivator, would serene reflection still work against any debuff, or are there counter-mechanics?

It only dispels it on the user, so any others effected would still be effected.

As for the perfect dispel... it does say it only effects techniques that are two dots or less. it is otherwise automatic. So I guess I misspoke there, as it is it could not dispel elegy because elegy is a three dot tech

My five cent on the weapons:
We were clearly shown to be talented at bows.

We may be talented at an martial weapon as well.

Since we will be expected to know sword and spear anyway, we should try out one of them next week.

And regarding stats - spear is far better than guandan for us.
Ignoring one point of armor is quite huge - it makes for an automatic auto success on hit and effectively raises DV to 6.

It also is better for us, since one of our main combat arts negates multiple attacker penalties anyway, while with our low strength we do have problems penetrating armor, and nearly everyone has armor 1.

Negating it really helps us out.

Cores are equivalent to cultivation materials. Count the cores as equivalent Stones for cultivation, so minimum 1 per week, but benefits from more to a cap seems likely.

You are correct in that the guandao would have done nothing in that fight, but I wasn't saying it would have been helpful in the fight. I was merely pointing out that events beyond our control are capable of putting us at a disadvantage. Placing us in melee against a group of people when we don't have the option to run and our mobility has become limited is a valid tactic and may be used against us at some point. It is not inconceivable, and indeed could be predicted that anyone who wants to fight us will create that type of situation. In that type of situation, I would rather have a weapon that helps us negate those circumstances than another type of weapon.

[X] Plan Expanding Horizons

Taking this one for now since I'm going to bed.
Note that if you shoehorn getting complex political advice into a physical training session...well at least one of them is going to be suffering.

Yes. Except, again, anything we get will give us an advantage. What matters is how likely those situations are and what is the best option to deal with it. We've seen exactly one weapon with this trend, hardly enough to say that the guandao is actually useful here. Notably, things like shields exist and should be specialized around defense.

Use 3 Red stones Please? There's no reason not to. The vent gives a free red or yellow not both.

Oops, fixed.

Speaking of finding sites - Moonfill might find us one, but I'm pretty sure search will too. It sounds like a nest of creatures has set up shop, and they'll almost certainly have picked a site to settle.
