Xiulan did mention that her family arts where driven by emotions more then meditation and study, so there is that.
Ling Qi and Xiulan's relationship did take a bit of work to get going yes. She started out dismissive but followed Han Jian's lead, probably also partly because Fan Yu dislikes Ling Qi, but then Ling Qi got a hit in during the first spar and the ball started rolling. It was pretty much the test tho that cemented Ling Qi as a potential resource/minion/friend/burn buddy, especially after she passed the second test.
In short Ling Qi showed potential and lived up to it. She is also a way for Xiulan to get more fights then she would otherwise.

Yeah, I'm honestly a little surprised myself at how things went with Xiulan. Like I've said her character archetype is typically antagonistic in this kind of thing, but then Ling Qi got her lucky hit in the first spar and the test went down the way it did, and the character got away from me a bit.

We've finally admitted Gu Xiulan is a genuine friend of ours, Bai has become a good friend after we placed ourselves in immense risk for. The only social fronts we haven't advanced are Han Jian and friends, and Li Suyin. This so called pressing need for a major social spree just isn't there. We've already consolidated a lot of our relations.
The fact is, we're now explicitly Bai Meizhen's weakest link, they're wary of us but that just means they'll be more cautious and clever about attacking us. We need to stop being the weakest link, and power of friendship or no- the quickest most reliable power up we can gun for right now.

The whole point of giving social options is so that we as players get to choose between grindING or losing out on that power up to focus on social. Social tends to give better stuff tho in the long run even if it means we somewhat lag behind in the cultivating.

Not much point to a cultivator who doesn't cultivate, we've been slacking off something fierce on pushing through to the next stage for far too long and remaining stagnant will do us no good. Not really liking these leading options, I must admit I find househunting pointless; we're already closer pals to Meizhen from this week, a living space is a living space is a living space. Since it's basically going to be fluff, I'd rather go for the superior options available because gosh darn it I want to see what sort of horrifying concoction Qi can cook up for Guangli or any option that doesn't advance the petting zoo brigade. Or if we are set on talking to Meizhen, it could at least be about something useful like what Huang Da is all about.

I get the feeling we'll get some tangible benefits out of choosing the house with Meizhen, not just fluff. And it's not something we can put off a week, since if we're not there, Meizhen will just get the house on her own. I also prefer the Han Jian action over either talking with Gu Xiulan or cultivating argent soul. Argent soul is low on my priority, and I think our social with Xiulan is fine at the moment.
