"If they are foolish enough to rebel, you will get the war you wanted," you noted. "And this way we'd be the lawful rulers of the land and not some foreign invader."
Place your kingdom in the jaws of a dragon, and she will not let it go. I wonder how Qoren will feel once he realizes just how precarious the succession is, and that he might've actually been able to sit this out. Although this Nyra is far more warlike than in canon...

"I will tolerate Qoren if this marriage goes through, you can ask no more of me," Raylon sighed. "But rest assured I will treat any children you have like the dragons they are."
Yay! Qoren can deal, he's gonna marry us not Raylon after all, if the negotiations go through. We've dealt with at least one Kingsguard harshly disapproving of us throughout our childhood and we're fine.

Your Relationship with Ser Raylon Tarly Has Degraded

Ser Raylon Tarly Has Accepted Your Arguement
Whew. Not the big drop, he's still loyal, and the ticking bomb has been defused.

It was basically blind luck that had saved you from Otto's schemes and the fate of having to call Alicent 'step-mother'.
did she just call the voices in her head blind :V

"I can't believe I'm considering this," she said quietly. "It's absurd how many things I have let you talk me into recently."
hopefully stares at Syrax... then Alicent... then Syrax...

I don't want you spend all those moments together afraid for your future. You mean a lot to me and I want you to be happy.
Awwwww, yes. This is so sweet and exactly as it should be. Rhaenyra caaaaares

The two of you looked at each other. Nothing was said. Nothing needed to be said. The challenge was unmistakable to both of you.
WHEEEEEEEEE

"Dracarys!" You cried out, causing you partner to let out a great burst of flame before the two of you dove back down. A good show for anyone watching.

Vhagar did the same, and here is where you realized your mistake.
Anyone watching: "yeah we GET IT she big"

Relationship Established: Laena Velyaron
Status: Cordial
Wonderful! Being on good terms with extended family and dragonriders is great. Let's hope we keep this up.

Maybe Alys Rivers could help you. It seemed an insane prospect, but she seemed to know something of medicine and Orwyle did mention it was an unconventional illness. Perhaps an outside source was what was needed.
This sounds like madness, which is why I'm tempted. We have like basically Nothing when it comes to allies with magical expertise or Intrigue expertise. And she's got the good drugs! So very tempted. But the Stress, dammit.

[X] Talk About Dragons

Cat Talk 2: "Rhaenyra Actually Cares About Cats" Boogaloo! First step is to happily geek about a shared interest. Second step is probably to ask about Laena's life and get to know her better as a person on some future turn. That's the minimum before we can meddle in her marriage prospects imo

MY hold up is how do you organically bring that up without Rhaenyra just suddenly deciding to teach Laena about Feminism.

I would accept something like "Ask Laena about any friends she made on Driftmark"
Ironically the "women path to freedom" is my attempt at organically bringing the Vale trio up. Guess I am not such great conversationalist.
The intention is more about friend introducing friend. How about this one then? Thank you.
[X] Write-in (Subject to QM Approval) Talk about friends and adventure Rhaenyra and Laena each made while separated by the Progress and lament Laena missing presence on the Progress.

I think talking about progress is something reuniting Rhaenyra and Laena may find great interest in. Another intention is to even invite her to join us on the progress resumption.

Really feeling the lack of a shady vizier rn 😔 Rhaenyra's no good at cloak and dagger (nor wants to be), and her preferred approach of just facing people and talking to them pits the word of a young woman against the Grand Maester.
May I interest you in [] [Action] Sneak out and Explore the City to may be meet Mysaria one of the best shadowy vizier?
or [] [Action] Fly to Harrenhal to pick up Alys Rivers our acquaintance woodswitch? Our own shady vizier will probably also help us on Otto bargain. <- (Shady Vizier with their Shady Shades)

I'm already interested! We were just busy this turn... and a lot of the turns before this one... the sidequests can't get into our AP hell
Maybe this coming turn we can do one of these

Agree. The coming turn don't have immediate obligation like Harp training or Law learning so may be we can shimmy it in. Have another  shady vizier while we anticipate the recruitment.

Why did alicent say marriage is of the table? With context i assume she's talking about the gwayne option but last i checked we haven't confirmed anything final with martel yet, so its still technically on the table.

Also weren't we gonna talk to Alicent about wether she wants us exclusive (romantically atleast.) Or not?

Alicent's basically assuming the deal has no reason to fall through.

And asking if Alicent wanted to be exclusive while she's panicking about her future would...not go well.

@Teen Spirit If I may ask is this new write-in approved? Thank you.

I honestly think that no write-in, unless it's absolutely incredible, is going to supplant talking about dragons on our first time meeting the teen version of someone who loves dragons and has an awesome dragon to talk about.

Also, I find it funny how going full dragongirl at Laena is basically the safe lighthearted shared interest bonding option, while going full dragongirl at Qoren on the first meeting would've been a threat :D

Indeed the narrative of the dragon girlies meet-up is fabolous. I don't vote it only because it is currently winning and need not my vote.

Current Tally as of this post for the curious.

So unless the next update is an interlude concering marriage negotiations, then it will likely be Turn 16, and we should probably huddle together and decide what we want to do now.

I think speaking to Otto is not negotiable, since even if you don't agree it's the way to get Mellos booted, we did tell Alicent we would speak to him concerning her, and better do that sooner than later if we're serious about her.

A three actions-three conversations plan would be nice as well, since it doesn't seem so far that we have any pressing conversations aside from Otto, whereas we have quite a few actions that have been sitting for a while.

Harp Practice would be nice given all the stress lately, as would studying Valyrian History with Father, since it gives Viserys some stress relief, but personally I would also like to do Tourney Winnings, but I know people also want to go to Harrenhall, and we also do have an obligation to mentor under Lord Strong.

As for any other conversations, Isembard Arryn has a gift for us and has been paitently waiting, and Laena would be another nice chat, of course there are also people who are of the mind that we should give Rhaenyra exposure therapy and have her talk to Johanna.

Thoughts my fellow questers?

Ahaha definitely no on the "marriage" option considering our utterly failed attempt to try and negotiate a saner version of her marriage to Rhaenyra's dad.

Regarding this @Teen Spirit , with our choice of not only to start looking for a husband early, but also trying for the Dornish match that could finally unify the Seven Kingdoms and giving Viserys reign a massive win... Could that be enough to significantly lift Viserys' spirits and stall the sickness's progress for a while?

Eeeehhh high-impact political negotiations require a metric-fuck-ton of mental effort and engagement, unless you simply decide to not Give a Fuck and essentially concede to the other side. There's no way in hell Qoren isn't pushing for as much as he can get and Viserys is going to have to try and match that energy if he doesn't wanna get fleeced. Like think high stakes company merger except with warfare involved.

While I think this marriage scenario is better overall than canon, canon's approach of "toss her at Laenor, say job done," is much easier to engage the "fergedabouit" approach for stress mitigation. It also tends to result in problems latter, but hey he wasn't around to deal with them!

Otto and Harrenhal are a must in my opinion, and going to Harrenhal would have some good synergy with mentoring with Lord Strong.
Speaking to Otto at the very least must wait one turn for preparation. At the very least to speak with Gwayne Alicent to strategize. Ideally I wanted a full year (four turns) prep so that we either having squared the Dornish issue and power behind us or having more concrete network of influence. We must assume Otto as hostile entity here that need to balanced with power and wealth. We don't know both what we can give and what Otto want, so he can extract ruinous demand from us.

My thinking is preparatory turns for dealing with Otto and Mellos may contain.
+First priority
-Speak Gwayne Alicent to obtain strategy for Otto.
+Secondary priority
-Speak Harrold Westerling to obtain newest court gossip to know any hint about Otto demand or Mellos other misconduct.
-Speak with Beesbury to square our most loyal Councillor and most familiar of Otto habit by din of being neighbor. He may have some insight for both Otto and Mellos as fellow councilor.
-Speak with Lord Strong our other loyalist Councillor. We can also square our Law obligation meeting him.
+Nice to have
-Go to Harrenhall/Sneak into the city obtain either Alys Rivers or Mysaria or both as shadowy vizier and magical drug dealer.
-Speak to Isembard/Go to Dragonstone. To count our currently available network and ruling power.

At the very least I wanted to take about 4 of the above actions first before speaking with Otto.

Thoughts my fellow questers?
I've been harping on (heh) about a full relaxation Dragonstone turn, which means T16 we take a normal slate of actions, one of which is preparing for the trip, and T17 (which conveniently happens to be the deadline for both harp and law stuff) we take full leverage of the time away from court, with Alicent, and in the peace and quiet. I still wanna do this.

Well, we don't need to boot Melos, we just need him to authorise Orwyle's treatment...

Regarding conversations, I would like to try to get Gwayne involved with the whole Otto thing we may talk to Johanna, we would bit even more stress, but since the Twins' birthday will be next year we could use the opportunity to give them Dragon eggs (and maybe convince Johanna of supporting Orwyle's treatment)... Besides that, we could continue talking with Laena or try to talk to Obara...

Regarding the actions, I would like to do the Harp Practise and Poetry Learning together because they synergize quite well with each other so I would leave that for the next turn I would like this turn I would like to take both [] [Action] Fly to Harrenhal and [] [Action] Prepare for a Trip to Dragonstone so that we can try to recruit Alys, and prepare a romatic escapade with our girlfriend for maximum relaxation...

Otto and Harrenhal are a must in my opinion, and going to Harrenhal would have some good synergy with mentoring with Lord Strong.
Would it? Lord Strong is the Master of Law, he mostly hangs out in KL since he's got a job to do. Talking to him doesn't benefit from going to Harrenhal; study materials are likely going to be more plentiful in KL as well; and, of course, attending court can only be done in KL.

Harrenhal as a location would probably go along well with sparring with Harwin Strong, but we just got some practice in with the Dornish and I'm honestly more interested in hanging out with Obara than any of the Strongs atm.

I think the eggs are extremely not time-sensitive. They're negative time-sensitive. Nyra became the youngest rider in generations at, what, seven? Not only do we not have any pressing need to squeeze the egg issue into our AP hell itinerary, but also if the point is to get our half-siblings younger dragons, there's no reason to give them as early as possible.

Unless it's to make that definitely happen before Johanna has a chance to find out about Alicent, I guess?

[] Draft Second Opinion and Shovel Talk
-[] [Conversation] Speak with Gwayne And Alicent
-[] [Action] Prepare for a Trip to Dragonstone
-[] [Action] Sneak out and Explore the City/[] [Action] Study Valyrian History with your Father.
-[] [Conversation] Speak with Lord Commander Harrold Westerling
-[] [Conversation] Speak with Lord Lyman Beesbury / [] [Conversation] Speak with Rhaenys Targaryen / [] [Conversation] Speak with Lord Lyonel Strong
-[] [Action] Fly to Harrenhal

My current Draft is based on two main ideas about dual purpose and assumption that at the very least we will negotiate with Otto two turns or longer from now.

The first that the bolded actions can double as prepping for both Otto negotiation and Mellos replacement. Speaking with court involved Ser Harrold, councillor, and Rhaenys may reveal some of Otto desire or Mellos weakness. Going to HH to pickup Alys that can give the good drug and may help us on spy game against Otto.

And the second idea is playing around with possible dual purpose desire and duty from the unbolded actions. Speak with Gwayne and Alicent can be helpful for Otto negotiation and our desire to maintain close friendship with Gwayne. Sneaking out we can learn unofficial information and relax playing in the city. Or relax our Father and learn Valyrian history having extra info for Dragonstone research. Dragonstone trip is to ensure a full relax T17 as Somic visioned. We can also learn about some of our political power from being ruler of Dragonstone.

Why I include Rhaenys is because she is a senior power player and may have advice for negotiating with Otto another old player in the game. Also she is Viserys older cousin and her opinion may be one that Viserys can not dismiss out of hand by being king. It may help to convince Viserys in regard to Mellos.
