Yeah, that's the problem with tourneys. Injuries in tourneys can legit influence politics. See how the Martell/Tyrell hostility was rekindled when Oberyn accidentally maimed Willas. So... hrm. Shit?

don't baratheon's have the whole "decended from the storm kings, and those were decended from Durran Godsgrief, who wed Elenei, daughter of a sea god and wind goddess" plus "also has dragonriding sorceror blood".

can we relate with him on this somehow? i don't want to go targ supremacy, but maybe we can mention to him that we've been interested in general valyrian history (true! we can even back it up with viserys) and we wanted to ask about our shared lineage?

or borros could be a meathead that cares for none of that, but i remember stormlanders being pretty proud of their history?

edit: isn't it also a sign of favor to sit close to the royal family at a feast? show them attention, show the other courtiers who you considered most important besides the host, etc.

Well to be fair. It only says Borros will remember this. It doesn't mean he will hold a grudge. He could but I'm hoping for the best here. Rhaenyra is starting to make a name for herself and best part is everyone is taking her seriously without knowing it's her. She must love this.

For all we know Borros will remember that his "vague sort of relative" utterly bodied him in the joust, laugh it off, and say its our shared ancestry breeding true and being an ally for life.

Either that or he'll try and kill us in the "whatever the dance turns into", one of the two. One of the two.

Yeah, he didn't seem that antagonistic when talking about us with that cunt Peake, so maybe once Rhaenyra reveals herself he goes like "wow what did they feed my cousin in the Red Keep???" instead lol Maybe channel some of the Bobby B energy.

Anyways, just hoping. Can't win 'em all.

Here's to hoping we won against Cole because I couldn't physically or emotionally stand being right below him in BOTH categories :(

If we were playing a man, there's a reasonable chance it would be a positive outcome with Borros. The problem is that we are woman. And even someone ambivalent to a woman warrior might become absolutely enraged if that woman beat him in a fight. "You got beat by a woman," might be a massive blow to Borros's ego, and he might take it really badly.

Edit:and I'm saying this in spite of the fact that our character is clearly born to be a fighter.

Very smart of Rhaenyra to concede the melee to Criston, as by the laws of narrative, now having faced him twice and been defeated first convincingly and then narrowly, we're guaranteed to win our third contest. :V

Man, I wonder how things would go with Borros if the identity of the Silver Falcon were revealed... It's obvious that he is holding a grudge now, but having the royal heir almost fatally injure the son of a lord paramount wouldn't be good politics.

See how the Martell/Tyrell hostility was rekindled when Oberyn accidentally maimed Willas.

Eh, I think there's got to be some amount of "this shit happens sometimes in Tourneys" between heirs, at least normally. A mystery knight is someone you might be free to vent your frustrations on though. And gender stuff might lead to a different reaction.

Also a lot of the Martell/Tyrell hostility is seen through Cersei's eyes and I'm pretty sure the implication is that they're putting on a show for the Lannisters - Willas and Oberyn are in correspondence and it's mentioned in a Tyrion chapter that Willas bears Oberyn no ill will.

Quite a bit is seen thought Tyrion's eyes prior to the Purple Wedding. As while Willas himself doesn't bear Oberyn any ill will, the rest of the Tyrells kind of do.

Now I'm really curious as to the potential ramifications had Rhaenyra killed Borros.

I suppose it would depend on what other relatives he has left?

...do they? Which ones? When does this ill will manifest in terms of anything material?

Olenna and Mace both bad mouth him, and Margery never objected to what her grandmother said on the matter.

Olenna making some barbed remarks about Oberyn and the Martells in general, which she does with everyone and everything anyway.

I have always felt that Olenna was overhyped. Her only achivement (if it can be called that) that is not marrying a gay Targaryen Prince.

I'm generally in the camp of thinking that people care about how special snowflake the targs are a lot less than the targs like to think they do, but Borros in particular is super not going to care. Borros' dad Boremund was one of Rhaenys biggest backers, as they're first cousins, (and in the show even calls her the "Queen who never was" which is technically borderline treason), and Rhaenys and the Velayrons expected the Borros to back the Blacks as a result. But Borros didn't give a shit about the familial connection there and sided with the Greens.

A big thing is how much the gender thing matters to him. If we were male then a meathead who only cares about fighting and hunting could probably end up a fan. But we're not. Borros sided with the Greens in canon, although they did offer him a better deal. He was also the guy Unwin was talking to earlier. Although he didn't agree with Unwin, his reply to him could be taken a lot of different ways. Narratively too if there's going to be a Lord Paramount or heir that's antagonistic the Baratheons would make a lot of sense. If he doesn't care about gender though I'd expect that hunting and fighting (in ways which don't cripple him) will be the best way to do diplomacy with him.

Olenna and Mace both bad mouth him, and Margery never objected to what her grandmother said on the matter.

This is the definition of immaterial - and it's all stuff being said in front of Tyrion, who is a Lannister, and therefore at best their rival and at worst their enemy, who they have reason to give bad information to.

Holy shit lads we manifested that update, it's a Christmas Miracle!

Also holy crap I'd managed to get my nerves under control and remember to trust the prowess, and now this update has me shifting bricks again.

Well either way we've given a really good showing so far.

It is kinda funny, and I hope in-universe someone at one point realizes how our Rhaenyra would basically be the perfect heir... if people ignored the whole 'is a girl' thing. Like, everything she's done would be praised and/or accepted from a male heir.

Glad to see the tourney update, those rolls were quite nice. Criston is still worrying, but hopefully we can keep the good luck streak going. Getting this victory would be huge for us.

The crowd went silent as Lord Manderly shouted something in outrage and Unwin's rage quickly increased. The Scarlet Spear had turned out to be Torrhen Manderly, Medrick's younger brother. Unwin Peake had nearly lost to an actual child. The boy was quickly ushered away from the field as the announcer hurried to get to the next fight.
Can we wait a few years and marry this one instead? His humiliation of Unwin is more endearing than everything his elder brother has going for him.
