Those in the camp, yes. If you're out clearing land/scouting/hunting/whatever, not quite as lucky
Well, my guy spends most of his time turning other people's felled timber into houses right now, so he's probably in the camp.

It takes a bit for Erik Hardhead to quite register that there's an actual monster attack, being as how he's heavily preoccupied trying to gauge the angle for a rafter. The combination of "Measure twice, cut once" and "man am I bad at math" does sometimes trip him up a little, even if he's normally got a good eye for these things. If things somehow remain chill, he's probably not even going to fully grasp how much of a trouble this thing was until later.

But if this starts to get loud and violent- and only if- he gets up and picks up a couple of the javelins he keeps close at hand whenever possible- his favorite weapons, though the seax at his hip is the only real weapon he always carries. He jogs in the general direction of the monster, angling to the left and looking for a clean cast at the thing.

When he gets one, he hefts one of his javelins at the balance point. It leaves his hand, making a distinctly Doppler-shifted buzz as it passes through the air.

[X] Erik throws a spear just as hard as he can, marrying Force and Spear kenna into his favored Puncture the Bastard trick.

(Erik remains bad at naming things)

(Sorry, had to make some edits to adapt to what everyone else was doing while I was writing the post)

[X][Second Action] Arnleif Whistler thinks this giant creature looks similar to those weird bird things that the scouts brought back. If it's a giant bird, then surely it should love music? Arnleif will sing to it, their Music kunna underlining their words with a soothing melody.

edit: whoops, Arnleif Whistler is asleep during the trex attack

Just some fast thoughts

This beast will have blood for our Seeress Gudrun -oh shit

===

Moli will spike the ground between the Giant Monster and the Guard Patrol with glass caltrops which should hopefully cripple it's ability to move around when it steps on one.

He will flashbang the monster in the eyes when it starts charging. It is night, light in the eyes should blind it horribly.

Lol, fuck no, if it wants to eat our kin, it does it over our fucking dead bodies.

[X] There's no taking this fucker in a straight fight, sound the Alarm when this gets spicy and look for an opening in the carnage, burning Aspects freely as needed to hopefully find a blind spot to jump onto it's back or something and stab a vulnerability, or something.

We are all going to die, but at least we die Properly, sending warning to the camp and selling our lives for our kin.

Valhalla awaits!

[X] Bjorn is going clear the area immediately surrounding by removing tree and rocks. tbh I have no idea HOW strong Bjorn is narrative wise. If he is strong enough to pull tree up by their roots and smash stones with his fists he will, if not he will just use tools like a "normal" person, also having seen a tree almost eat someone he will make sure to throw a BIG ROCK at each tree hs about to cut down, just to be sure

[X] Bjorn will also dig basic ditch around the parameter of the village and use the dirt to make basic defensive earthwork Behind the ditches so villagers will always be able to fight on the high ground (the most important ground)

We really need a way to keep track of who is doing what, my Zoomer brain zones out when I try to read everything.

@alexthealright You wouldn't mind one more joining you on the quest to kill the birb would you?

Oh wait nvm, just noticed this happens while everyone is asleep. I'll change my second action to something unrelated to this event I guess?

Arrows fly as spears sail, peppering the beast's hide as bright flashes of light blind its vision.

The beast takes a single step and pauses, before pivoting on the spot and leaving as if nothing ever happened

burning Aspects freely as needed

Would someone be willing to give a run down of things like "Aspects" and "Kunna" and "Bloodlines"?

I'm really quite uninformed about these things, and I think others are as well, and I feel like I'm not playing optimally when I learn things like "Spirit Eyes also get you your own spirit animal companion" and "a Scent Bloodline means you can probably smell the lies on someone" :V

It may sting our pride, but ultimately, 'proved ourselves too big a problem to be worth eating' is still a win, I think.

Bloodlines are pretty freeform. Kunna are described in the initial post. Aspects are, for purposes of this Quest, actually just a term for burning all your magic energy...they're relevant in the original NQ but sort of below the level of abstraction here except to say you're burning all your resources.

That said, maybe I'll whip up something more general on the metaphysics. Gimme a bit.

[X][Second Action] Intrigued by the weird bird corpse the scouts brought home, Arnleif Whistler tiptoes off into the jungle humming something appropriately sneaky. They try to find a living example to serenade and befriend.

Ignore my last post

I know someone suggested a ditch/moat around our settlement; some pit traps might not go amiss either. Though given how strong that thing was I don't know how effective it might be.

Coward! (Shard)

Coward!

"Clan comes to land anew,
Call to all now alive!

Great beast come wanting feast,
Girth birthed grand and ran.

Sword and spear, word to flee,
Sound and wound, trace without,

Craven fled from raven,
Crow hungers hunts away!"

Erik stops to think that over for a minute.

"Big spiky logs in the bottom of the ditch. Like a spear waiting for your feet. And it had better be a pretty wide ditch, too."
