Naming a Star trek exploration ship after a space shuttle named after a star trek exploration ship is going to give the time cops an aneyrism. The Columbia and Enterprise were both space shuttles(at least that's generally what comes to mind first when those names come up) , and I'm not saying don't use them.
If we go by STO, the shuttle Enterprise still existed.Naming a Star trek exploration ship after a space shuttle named after a star trek exploration ship is going to give the time cops an aneyrism.
That is to say, the ship in the show was named after the aircraft carrier.
Edit; Since there was no Star Trek in Star Trek, I wonder if the space shuttles were named after some other Sci-Fi franchise.
Or indeed by the Enterprise intro.
If the war goes on long enough to neccesitate another warship, or the klingons happen and neccesitate one, we could take a page off of Royal Navy's book and name a class after flowers.I really want to continue with the bizarrely unthreatening names for smaller ships, following from my beloved UES Butterfly

Can't refrain from something we haven't done and why shouldn't we use names from the two World Wars?I think we should refrain a bit from using ship names from either of the world wars tbh.
"...they named one of the nastier cruiser hulls we've ever encountered after a non-aggressive nectar drinking avian. What is wrong with the Terran mindset, Praetor? Do we really want to prosecute an extended war against this species?"Vote for the little guy, the underdog, the aptly named Hummingbird. Take a leap of faith and embrace the irony and symbolism! The Warbird/Raptor vs the Hummingbird! A clash of ideals and civilizations! Domination vs cooperation. War vs peace! Empire vs Federation!
Yes, we very much can. You're literally saying we can't avoid doing something... if we haven't done it.Can't refrain from something we haven't done and why shouldn't we use names from the two World Wars?
Compelling logic. To continue the Stingray trend of earth warships being named for cute and mostly harmless animals.

I'm warming to Hummingbird just for the hilarity of something similar to this being asked in Romulan political/military circles.
