Did Vidar ever even meet his grandchildren?

Almost certainly in passing at Yule gatherings and the like. He didn't visit much, I don't think.

I wonder how much Steinarr knew about the treatment Vidar gave his children. There's a mention early on of Farbjorn was on the same raid as Steinarr so maybe that was his way of intervening? But then again for all we know Steinarr might not have even considered them friends so much as… my weirdly zealous former subordinate that I still feel kind of responsible for? I could also be misreading all of this of course but who knows.

Steinarr's final thoughts included Vidar, among others. He noted him as difficult, but loyal beyond reason, and those thoughts seemed affectionate enough...I think the evidence is very strong that he did consider him a friend. I'm less clear on whether he knew about the degree to which Vidar treated his children badly...that part's a lot more ambiguous.

I mean, it feels wierd for Steinnar to just ignore that sort of thing. he is very much the kind to try and help at least subtly even if he and Vidar weren't comrades in arms

Assuming he knew, yeah. I dunno if he did. Vidar seems to have mostly done his abuse in private, like most abusers, and Steinarr wasn't always the best at noticing subtle signs, and there likely wouldn't have been any blatant ones without other obvious explanations (combat training and Norse healing speeds make physical injuries not actually a good gauge of ongoing abuse).

Ah I should've thought to reread Steinarr's final thoughts beforehand, thank you for the clarification.

definitely, I think he just didn't knew(generally, Steinnar was very friendly but not the most socially acute). I was saying it makes little sense for him to know and just sit on it- so he likely didn't know. which isn't nearly the only thing he missed

though, can we use our social next turn to check up on Abjorn? play date is important, but Abjorn's father just commited suicide for our father. we gotta check up on our husband.
plus we gotta make sure he knows we defended his honor as the one and only Abjorn, killing that Abjorn pretender Hooknails:sour:

Replacing something with talking to Abjorn is reasonable, but if we skip the playdate we'll have officially gone a whole year without one. I'd rather not do that, and I don't know what else to drop for it either. Arghh.

Maybe we ditch the sparring? What do people think of that idea?

Can we take any action towards finding Steinarr's killer? Divination or talking to the firefoot kid or something?

Is divination an action? I'm really unclear how that works, to be honest. That's also usually done on Yule, which would be next turn rather than this one, for whatever that's worth.

@Imperial Fister how would we do divination on the people behind Steinarr's death? Would that be an action, research, or what?

Absolutely an action, my apologies for that

No worries, just checking.

I'm not against divination, I just don't know what we'd drop for it. I think we need everything except maybe the sparring, and if ditching that, comforting(?) Abjorn seems like it's more time-sensitive.

EDIT: And, upon reflection, went with spending time with Abjorn over sparring. We can do that later after the Gotland trip. I dunno where and when we fit in divination, though we obviously need to. Maybe we do so on the trip? That would make sense thematically.

The cows are valuable, but I don't think we need them. I would rather do divination than beef quest

The issue is that the cows could be indicative of a real problem if someone owns them. I think we need to know, even more than we need the cows. The Divination can happen next turn or on the trip and it probably doesn't change anything...we don't do the cows this turn, who knows what happens. Could be nothing, could be bad.

Beefquest is unimportant. They probably do belong to someone though. I have a feeling that someone isn't actually living in Asvir however. Actually reminds me of Apollo's Cows.

Sure, but a deity or similarly powerful being wandering around with their herd of cows seems like something we should address rather than ignore and hope everything turns out okay. Like, acquiring cows is not vastly important (though are gonna have 9 kids, more inheritance for them isn't nothing), but knowing what the hell is going on before it becomes an issue seems pretty important.

With thanks to DeadmanwalkingXI since I did use most of his plan and he worked on the specific divination question

[X] Plan The Hunt for the Faceless Man
-[X] (Personal) Spend time with...
--[X] Abjorn
--[X] Help him deal with whatever he's feeling about what happened to his father. Just generally be there for him.
-[X] (Personal) Use Divination to learn about the person who payed for Steinarr's killing
--[x] Draw lots from a bag of 9: Drysalt, Lidrun, Dorri, Logi, Erikaer Corpsemaker, Hasvir Horrason, Steingrimm, Reinar Swordfury, and someone else. The "someone else" option is labeled "someone else"
---[x] further questions TBD based on results from the initial draw
-[X] (Personal) Spend time with...
--[X] Our Household
--[X] See how everyone is doing, hang out with friends and stuff.
--[X] See if anyone is interested in having their Fylgja revealed. We need to grab some Experiences for that, but we want to do that anyway. Also check and see if anyone would like their stats Infused (though obviously, we talk around what we're actually doing). The latter offer is only for people sworn to us, we trust Vagn enough to tell him about this, but it requires us to make a permanent investment, so receiving it requires a permanent Oath.
-[X] [Social] (Playdates)
--[X] Klaus-Kjaran-Kadrina (Coast Family) --[X] Hopefully a smaller gathering will give our kids more opportunities to bond.
-[X] (Exploration) Go on a walk through... --[X] The hills!
---[X] (Optional) Send your fylgja in your place (Does not cost an action)
---[X] (Optional) Range further from your home
-[X] Special Note: On all Crafting add the following if possible unless otherwise specified:
--[X] For metal items have Heat Hold available just in case
--[X] Using Sundersight (+1d3 Successes) --[X] Stoking Frami, Virthing, and Saemd (for +1 Success each, +3 successes total) to enhance the crafting process
Training:
1-[X] (Research)
--[X] Continue teaching Bjorney Eyespeech – 1 Research
--[X] Try and experiment with using a technique like Recall (ie: something telekinetic, using strings or fingers as our visualization) in our unbinding of needlebinding, doing it mentally rather than physically – 1 Research
--[X] Get the scarecrow's permission and try sewing gloves (filled with straw) onto the ends of its arms, potentially making slits so the straw it is filled with can mix with those in the gloves – 1 Research
--[X] Offer Odr in our recruitment efforts for spirits to work for us, exact details depending on the specific spirit and the arrangement –1 Research
--[X] Try and look through our Fylgja's eyes while it is in the fold between worlds and otherwise experiment with using it to perceive spirits – 1 Research
---[X] Use this in concert with our recruiting efforts to find recruitment targets and eliminate any we get a bad feeling about from consideration
--[X] Try and use a Rewrite to stretch the bounds of plausibility and make the Sunfire Hugareida as an Alloy out of Ignition and Unending Time In The Sun – 1 Research
-[X] (Training) Hamr (255 xp to rank up)
--[X] Train Hamr Itself 138xp (69xp)
-[X] (Work Dice Usage)
--[X] Buildings: 6 Quality, 2 Living Space, 1 Storage, 2 Workshop (13 Total)
--[X] Resources: 6 Quality, 8 Food, 0 Goods, 0 Silver (14 Total)
--[X] Livestock: 8 Quality, 7 Food, 0 Goods, 0 Silver (15 Total)
--[X] Crafting: Create two Superior Mail Shirts for Dorri's Deal (8 Total)
--[X] Construction: Improve Building – Workshop by 12 (12 Total)
--[X] Experiences: Capture the Experiences of the three things needed for Fylgja Revealing (27 Total)
--[X] Conversion: Spend for 6 Research Dice (12 Total)
-[X] (Incidentals)
--[X] Adding Taafl Board Capacity Gains to: Sigurdr, Hallbjorn,
--[X] Receiving Metal from Dwarves: 24 oz Forged Iron, 6 oz Storm Iron

You need an extra line break here.

Minor correction, but you have the potential to have 9 kids with Abjorn. It's not guaranteed that you'll have 9 kids, though it is likely

I actually corrected that seconds after posting it. Apparently too late.
