As it stands I find myself more interested in playing on of the twins. The only thing drawing me to Sigurdr is Wanderlust - and the puuko to a smaller extent - but at the same time you don't need Wanderlust to travel a lot, so there's that. Like a lot of other people I'm waiting for their personalities to actually form before I make my decision.

I would kind of like it if we played Sigurd, it seems like we might end up taking a ship and having adventures as a mariner, which would be rather cool, different vibe to NQ1. We could explore the whole of the Norse world and maybe further afield! Find Iceland, Greenland, and maybe even Vinland! Sail through the mountain tops and ruined towers of Sunken Atlantis! Go to Constantinople and the lands of the Rus! Round the Horn of Africa, where no Viking has ever been!

But the twins are also cool. Hard to say.

One thing which I find... not necessarily a downside, but notable about the character generation here is that a lot about our next protagonists is being decided by RNG or decisions we make now. It's quite different to the start of this quest or most quests where you have a lot of freedom to define your protagonist from the start. This produces a certain sense of anxiety over getting our kids the best traits, I think. Be interesting to see how that plays out.

If you want wuff names for the kids, how about
Sigulfr (male)
Combining
ulf =wolf
and
sigr = 'victory'

Ulfrun (female)
Combining
ulf = Wolf
and
rún = 'secret'
rún = 'secret lore'
(+Magic connotations, its probably no accident that our Seeress mentor is named Solrun)

On the one hand, these are good names, but on the other hand, there is something to be said for simplicity. Also people have already voted for the previous version, which makes it awkward. So I guess I appreciate you taking the time, and these are really cool, but not sure I can switch my vote at this time unless there's a big swing of support for these, if that makes sense?

Also I kind of like Ylva just for how it sounds. It's also quite likely to be Latinised as "Eve" if she encounters Christians and gets written up into some legend as the fierce Norse princess with a werewolf brother who a knight has a romance with, and I find that kind of cool and amusing.

This could be possible names for the next children, we still have three possible children.

I wonder what Eyes of the Full Moon does.

Probably something really esoteric and mystical. The effect could be related to some form of Seersight or Seidr.

This is sort of like, my main reservation with playing Sigurdr? Well, not travelling - thats what I want to do. More so that we don't have to be Sigurdr to actually do any of this, (although Wanderlust would certainly help and also serves as a reason all by itself to actually go travelling) and he doesn't really interest me as a protagonist beyond that. The twins seem cooler on paper, but again, they haven't even formed a personality yet, so I don't want to make any choices yet.

Also, uh, this isn't actually directed at you Skippy, I just wanted to use your post as an example of
why I'm torn between the two. So sorry for quoting you.

I just realised, with TSS we can do a really expensive but better version of whatever the hell Nain Rotting does for his teleporting bullshit

Heima Smiles is the one that does the teleporting stuff iirc, not Nainn. Although he does seem like a good route to try and find out more about the Martial Style, although I feel like if he could actually stop tike, that would've made itself evident by now? Feels more like he teleports rather than stops time, I dunno.

Heima did a weird possibly time-related thing with food at one point. It was eaten and then not...talking with him about time shenanigans seems valid.

Heima Smiles' teleportation method does not seem to be a Finale.

This is true. There may still be a discussion to be had, though.

Huh, do you happen to remember the update where this happened? Either way, I agree that he's our best lead so far. It helps that he also likes us... I think? Getting a read on the guy is hard.

Summer 9/Voyage 1.3

Heima Smiles, well, 'smiled' as you tried again and again to hook him into a conversation.

"So, how about that weather we're having?" Look, alright, you're running out of topics. Sure, it's not gonna wo-

"It's alright." Heima's expression doesn't change an inch as a voice like spun gold flows from between his ever-closed teeth.

You stare at him, eyes twitching.

He stares back, a bare skewer in his hand—that had been covered in meat just a few seconds ago!

A spark of levity plays across his eyes as he takes a bite of the now filled skewer?!

'This guy is fucking freaky.'

You couldn't agree more.

If Erik's son Lief, Lief Eriksson, who happens to be inquisitive *hint hint*, is who I think he is, we might hear of our nephew, or our cousin if the PCs change, finding this quaint little land that he calls Vinland.

He is not that Lief Eriksson. The historical guy has a well documented family history that bears absolutely no resemblance to this one's. We could make him discover Vinland, but it'd be us, not the weight of history.

Imperial has said that Eric's child is only a joke/shout-out, he's not actually the Lief Erikkson.

So, @Imperial Fister some questions that came up on Discord:

1. How does Threadcutter actually work? Do the attacks come quicker than normal? Do all nine need to hit for the final one to go off? Can it be interrupted like Stoker Engage?
2. When you stoke someone else's Aspect do you get Orthstirr based on your Orthstirr pool or theirs?

EDIT: Some additional questions that have come up:

3.How do Folded Attacks used as a counterattack combined with asuccessful Contested Movement work? Like, if you did a 3Fold attackfrom a Fast as a counter, would the first attack go unopposed and theother two be rolled as normal, or what?
4.Likewise, how does the 'two attack' limit on Time Stands Still work?Is it a time limit (so you can simultaneously do attacks from a Fastand normal attacks and get extra)? Is it conceptual? Does it workwith Folded attacks?

One thing I think is interesting about the underlying Martial Style for Time Stands Still is that the move seems to prominently focus on breath. Halla can sustain the stopped time for as long as she can hold her breath, and then she feels her lungs burning and has to stop. What's notable about this to me is that Stoker State is all about our heart.

So it seems that in an appropriately Norse way, maybe these sorts of Styles relate to quite fundamental parts of our body? Stoker State is powered by pulsing hot blood, and the Time Stands Still Parent Style is powered by our breath, holding air in our lungs and using it to propel us forward. This is interesting in that it might imply something fundamental about this family of Styles, and also it makes me think that practicing and focusing on our breathing as we practice inverting our Standstill and maybe trying smaller applications of the same techique might be a good avenue for trying to uncover the root Style.

(Also, it's pretty neat to me that Time Stands Still was inspired by Ki-Rata from Kill Six Billion Demons, which is a martial art based around a breathing technique, and TSS also seems to heavily focus on our breathing. The whole thing is just extremely cool.)

That's fair, and no worries, I don't mind being used as an example, but thanks for being considerate.

I think it's true, we don't have to use be Sigurdr to go adventuring, but having Wanderlust may help encourage us to do it? Also the Albatross Flygia will likely synergise a lot with being a mariner. They're incredible long distance voyagers after all.

Seriously, Albatrosses are so cool, the way they soar to be energy-efficient is amazing.

But all that being said, I definitely get where you're coming from. It's a bit hard for me to really latch onto any of the kids at the moment, I don't think I'll make a final decision until we're starting the new quest honestly.

Be the change you want to see in the world lol

Besides we probably aren't getting an update until after the weekend?
