Why is everyone so sure we will lose? I can't understand all this defeatism.

Its because we lost our last duels? So now people belive Halla is weaker than she really is?

I don't think very many people think we'll lose for sure, but this guy is resistant to our most powerful attacks and a higher caliber of Knight than we've ever fought before. Fighting him is far from risk free.

But for me, it's not actually the odds of losing that worry me, it's the possibility of dying if we do (which is pretty likely...we want to limit the amount of times we get in life or death fights without backup, not increase them), and the extra casualties on our side while we do that (which are almost certain), plus the good chance of either our kinsman or Stigulf dying.

Which is to say, I'd be a lot more willing to engage this guy in single combat for glory if everyone else on their side had already surrendered.

"Some unruly Thanes have balked at paying the Danegeld and have turned to the Nobiliary in hopes of them doing something about it. The King hasn't the forces to spare in this matter and is willing to add an extra twenty pounds to the deal—as well as extending an invitation of mercenary work to your people—if you repossess their lands. If you accept, you'll be given a list of names and locations, as well as the relevant details."
hm... reread the update the deal was in and... what, exactly do we need to do to repossess the lands? just kill the thanes? or what?

Somewhat hilariously, this is the inverse of the usual Norse combat strategy (besides Halla, of course). Your normal Norse tactics are "Basic xNumber, hit them with a trick to mix things up, take advantage of an opening, or whatever". Halla did "Trick attacks xNumber, hit them with a basic to mix things up"

We haven't got an addiction, I swear.

We can get off the Tricks any time we want!

But...but why would we want to?

More seriously, we're likely gonna be using Basic Attacks a lot more now that we have Sharpen and the ability to use it endlessly. It makes them a vastly better option.

Yeah, plus add in a Firebomb Strike and we're really cooking with gas, and still counts for Stoker State IIIRC.

[X] Battle Louis while Stigulf battles your Kinsman

Sadly no. If we're using a Trick it's no longer Basic, but also we can't use Sharpen with Firebomb Strike.

Hrmm.

Oh wait, you might not remember this - ages ago for some plan I asked @Imperial Fister if we could add Firebomb Strike onto a Basic Attack we were doing as a counter-attack with Slice-Aside, and he said yes, our mastery of Orthstirr and Hugareida had advanced to the point where we could, and it would cost the Trick's cost + 50%.

Important to check how this would play with Stoker State and Sharpen, but quite useful nonetheless. I think we could probably use this on something like a Halter Chop too?

Oh, that should work, yeah...but it wouldn't be a Basic Attack any more, the combo there would be Firebomb Strike + Slice Aside to replace the Basic Attack with a Firebomb Strike.

We can't use Sharpen with Firebomb Strike for, like, physics reasons...the actual blade never penetrates people we use Firebomb Strike against so how sharp it is doesn't matter. And I don't think we can make Tricks actually count as Basic Attacks. That...doesn't really make sense with the way the system works?

And we could do it with HHC in theory...I dunno what effect that combo would actually have, though, since HHC doesn't actually hit anything but the weapon...toss the weapon further due to the explosion, I guess?

I'm less worried about our fight then about Stig's. I think we can probably take the knight, am substantially less certain we can do it before Stig catches a case of the dead.

honestly, yeah, fighting is a risk. less to our side, but yeah, to ourself. but its not a massive risk, and if we shy away from risks we will never get stronger. there are times for caution, there are times to take a calculated risk.
we took mercenery work for orthstirr. we should make sure to get it

IF: Wants to write today.

Democracy: That's gonna be a no for me, dawg.
