Just going to be the pessimist and throw out a possible outcome - Horra might have set it up in a way that makes it so he gets notified whenever his Sanctum opens, or whenever it's opened without the use of his key. So forcing it open with runes may alert him. So we should probably be quick in whatever we do, even if I'm wrong... I'd rather be wrong than be right, to be honest. Seems a little too late to add in another line to the phrase that would open it silently.
If that's the case itll be based around someone entering it, rather than it being opened. He doesnt control the tree, after all. It's probably a loaner from his dwarven allies, same as his ballista.

That being said, again, Horra's time is finite, and you can only ward an area so much. The best defense is ultimately nobody knowing to look, which we've already pierced. The rest is just puzzle dungeon navigation.

In both cases they're his, even assuming Dwarven origin he bought them not rented them. The alert might easily be about it opening. We should definitely be quick about this, if we can. Remember our goal here is to gather evidence, which should be quicker than trying to figure out every single thing. We do want to figure things out, but if we wind up on a clock and need to go fast, it's important to keep our priorities in mind.

It might still be worth incorporating a stealth aspect into the runes, such that we avoid triggering any alarms via use of something other than the intended key.

Honestly, we've got a decent case to have Horra outlawed even without the sanctum...the sanctum likely just takes it from 'decent' to 'very good', which we really want.
I think we'll get rolls for that given the evidence we do already have. Which means he could, but it's not a given. With more evidence, that becomes a lot less likely, but I don't think failing to find evidence here automatically loses us the case. Remember that legal battles are handled as a battle in which you can gain Orthstirr (something I'm actually quite looking forward to, for the record)...I highly doubt a flat failure with no rolls is gonna be the result of trying...I just want to weight the dice in our favor as much as possible.
Well, yes, but we'd rather it not end in all of our surviving allies having to flee the country to avoid blood feuds if we can avoid it. We do, I suppose, have all our personal wealth relatively portable at the moment, but still.

Drawing your work knife, you set to carving a series of runes into a stick off a nearby tree. After a few minutes of scritch-scratching, you wind up with a rune-sequence that should trick the golden-leaved tree into opening for you.
Swallowing your trepidation, you press your palm to the carvings, breathe in, hold, and release.
Odr flows from the well, through your body, and out your palm.
Red light shines bright as odr floods the runes, supplying it with color and power.
The runes glow and the tree starts to rumble as it unfurls — revealing a ladder stowed away on the inside.
Jaw clenching in determination, you enter the Sanctum.

You come to face with an empty-eyed draugr standing in an alcove in the wall behind the ladder. It bears a spear and has it held up, ready to instantly stab an unwelcome intruder the moment they came into view.
The tree closes up above you as you release a shaky breath. Right, draugr are things that exist.
Actually... hold on a second.
Carved into the skull of the draugr is a set of runes. All jumbled up, yes, but recognizable nonetheless.
It's the same runes that were on that draugr so long ago.
Guess you've got confirmation, if nothing else.
Regardless, you find yourself in a landing of sorts with three branching paths. The leftmost leads to a storage room. The middle leads to what you suspect is the workshop proper. The rightmost contains, by the looks of things, cages — though you can't see into them from here.
What do you want to look into first?

AN: Not much to say here.
No moratorium, short vote. let's see if we can't get another update out, eh?
Yep, the Draugr that jumped us was a reprisal for bullying Knappr, thought so.

Both of these look like good spots, especially if he's kidnapping anyone.
So, we skipped the Draugr fight by outsmarting the door then? It's not smart enough to recognize the door opening properly as something to be concerned about? Just if someone enters forcibly?
First things first, see if there are any captives or experiments we need to worry about.
Oh, @Imperial Fister, the intent was to create a key that we could touch to the tree's "lock" not carve runes on the tree itself, just to leave a little less evidence. Not sure if that was a miscommunication or a deliberate choice.
